Rest precious limbs at Tannadice

608

Tomorrow is match day 5 of a 38 game Scottish Premiership league programme, and although there’s a possibility we may find ourselves five points adrift, the result from Tannadice will have absolutely no bearing on our season.

Celtic must weigh up the needs of squad fitness for the next four days, concluding with the visit to Malmo on Tuesday. We have some precious limbs attached to Virgil, Scott, Stefan (J) and most of all, Sugar Ray Griffiths. I strongly recommend all are rested tomorrow. The consequences of any of these players being injured for Tuesday is not worth contemplating.

It was considerably reassuring that Qarabag, who Celtic eliminated in the last round of the Champions League, won away at Young Boys of Berne last night. Any team winning in Switzerland have earned respect.

It was just as reassuring that Malmo’s last round opponents, Salzburg, went down 2-0 to Dinamo in Minsk. It’s difficult to determine comparative strengths this early in the season, but some people may have overestimated Salzburg and underestimated Qarabag,

We’ll find out on Tuesday.

Well done to all concerned with the Jock Stein Charity Match, which takes place on Sunday, 6 September, at East End Park, Dunfermline, in aid of Celtic Foundation and Pars’ Foundation. Alan Stubbs, who will be wearing the hoops one more time, said, “The thing about Celtic is that it’s a fantastic club, both when you’re there and when you’re not, and that’s a testament to the fans”.

Best of luck for the season, Alan.

British Champion boxer and Celtic fan, Scotty Cardle, is also playing, as is X-Men star, James McAvoy. Details here.

What they are sold for is neither here nor there.

It’s about what they achieve I’m the hoops.

There’s players signed from other Scottish clubs that have won trebles for us and helped us on the road to Seville.

Aye sure cifci doesn’t get the baws jangling but he might prove us wrong. The other two from utd were a tidy bit of business Imo.

And just cos another is linked doesn’t mean he’s a target. I could link a player right now ;)

  3. Suggested meeting place in Malmö from Celtic Supporters Club Sweden – Drumbar Lilla Torg, About a mile from both train station and stadium.

  4. Pfayr,

Other than bet Fred I can’t see another bookie that has us favourite on the night. The other 8 or 9 high Street guys have us outsiders.

One even has us @ 2/1. I’m avoiding though

I have made many bad choices in my life. One choice I will never regret is choosing to support Glasgow Celtic

Good evening Celts, I’m not often on cqn now and I’ve come back to find a Celtic site that looks too clean and professional, all the adds are intrusive and off putting. I won’t be using this superb site for those reasons but mibbee it’s just me being older and don’t like the extra hassle?

Anyway I’m here so hello Celts

  10. Roy C – There’s many former Celtic players that I have an unhealthy respect for, but there’s something about Tommy that just sums up everything that is good about Celtic. What a guy.

“We won the game and I’ve seen Mr Hareide very high up and very low down in Norway many times. He’s a funny guy and he tries to play these [mind] games and that’s something you just have to leave.”

“Hopefully, he won’t ruin his own brain: that’s the most important thing. You need to ask him what kind of tactic that is.”

Jimmy Johnstone/Bertie Auld – Give me my score back!!!

It is well documented that Jimmy Johnstone did not like flying as evidenced by the Red Star Belgrade tale.

On another occasion when Celtic were on their pre-season tour of USA prior to 1966/67 season which culminated in the magnificent triumph in Lisbon. The team were en route to Bermuda and prior to the flight taking off Bertie Auld had borrowed £20 ( tapped a score as Bertie put it) from Jimmy.

Whilst in mid air the plane got into a bit of heavy turbulence and the passengers including the players were told to stay in their seats and fasten their seat belts which they all duly did.As the pilot struggled to deal with this ongoing situation the next thing anybody knew Jimmy had unbuckled his seat belt, is out of his seat and up the aisle to see Bertie and says to him “Ten!Ten! – Give me my score back just in case”!!!

Although in a serious situation the plane was in uproar at Jimmy’s antics as Bertie pointed out to Jimmy if the plane went down he wouldn’t have much need for the £20.

*Ten was Bertie Auld’ nickname as in “Ten Thirty” rhyming slang for Bertie.

I am not his biggest fan and actually gave up on him, he is so frustrating, as he has great pace but little final ball. On Wednesday he tracked back(so he should I hear you shout).I thought when he got ovations from the crowd, he looked like a Celtic player again. He will possibly be our biggest threat going forward on Tuesday .HH
