Rest precious limbs at Tannadice

608

Tomorrow is match day 5 of a 38 game Scottish Premiership league programme, and although there’s a possibility we may find ourselves five points adrift, the result from Tannadice will have absolutely no bearing on our season.

Celtic must weigh up the needs of squad fitness for the next four days, concluding with the visit to Malmo on Tuesday. We have some precious limbs attached to Virgil, Scott, Stefan (J) and most of all, Sugar Ray Griffiths. I strongly recommend all are rested tomorrow. The consequences of any of these players being injured for Tuesday is not worth contemplating.

It was considerably reassuring that Qarabag, who Celtic eliminated in the last round of the Champions League, won away at Young Boys of Berne last night. Any team winning in Switzerland have earned respect.

It was just as reassuring that Malmo’s last round opponents, Salzburg, went down 2-0 to Dinamo in Minsk. It’s difficult to determine comparative strengths this early in the season, but some people may have overestimated Salzburg and underestimated Qarabag,

We’ll find out on Tuesday.

Well done to all concerned with the Jock Stein Charity Match, which takes place on Sunday, 6 September, at East End Park, Dunfermline, in aid of Celtic Foundation and Pars’ Foundation. Alan Stubbs, who will be wearing the hoops one more time, said, “The thing about Celtic is that it’s a fantastic club, both when you’re there and when you’re not, and that’s a testament to the fans”.

Best of luck for the season, Alan.

British Champion boxer and Celtic fan, Scotty Cardle, is also playing, as is X-Men star, James McAvoy. Details here.

If I could meet one person in the whole world that I didn’t it would be TB. (If I get to choose two then big Nelson is there too!)

I loved Tommy. He taught me that you can always grow to be a bigger, better man. No matter your age or stage.

  9. Martybhoy,

We all like to see us pick up an expensive Johnny foreigner now and then but all throughout our history we have bought from Scottish clubs. Many done their bit for the cause.

Funny enough Barnes is about our only manager ‘recently’ that didn’t buy from any Scottish club

  10. Feck telling lies again think i will be at the match then after 2 goals i will be in the boozer.

Allegedly been looking at some striker from them, they signed him at end of Jan, scored 7 goals, and now worth €5m, – plenty of pace so the article says

If true let’s pray he’s better than our last purchase from them :-) and not been scouted by same person

    Hail Hail

  13. I posted this last night re Wanyama to Spurs

And after the game boss Koeman was adamant that there will be no more departures from the club before the transfer window shuts on 2 September.

“There will be no more players sold this summer,” said the Dutch boss, who has seen Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne leave the club this summer.

“There’s no bid for any player. Not for Sadio Mane, not for Victor Wanyama.

“Write what you want to about the rumours, nobody is going to leave Southampton.”

Lennybhoy any less than 9 changes the morra and I will expect you to either sack your mole or do the decent thing ala Tosh McKinlay……

My first and last mention of Wednesday, the good lady says after the game why is your face tripping you, I answer that last goal was a boot in the nether regions, she says your team is winning and surely you will score over there…..hope she is right !

Roy C keep them coming although thankfully am hitting my kip but looking forward to reading back the morra morning already

Plenty of bargains in that ‘neck of the woods’ – lots with experience in the Portuguese Youth System (given their regularity of reaching latter stages of tournaments).

Most have a decent number of games under their belt and are available at a decent price………………….

    They’re a punt @ circa £1M – but maybe about time we dug-out another Jorge-type signing (even if he’s not a striker).

We need to show some of the same guts and quality on Tuesday.

  18. Winning Captains – if yir still afoot….remember a while back you published some figures on who was looking at the site and their locale?

Would it be possible to do something similar with the ‘new’ site?

I found it both fascinating and informative. Would love to be able to compare the figures/numbers actually :-)

Just scrolled through the last few pages. Someone posted that we should drop Bitton and play Mulgrew in midfield in Malmo.

    Jesus wept.

Perhaps the horror show of a midfield performance he put in away to Legia Warsaw last year was so bad that it’s been erased from some folks minds.

    I can’t think of a worse idea.
