Rest precious limbs at Tannadice

608

Tomorrow is match day 5 of a 38 game Scottish Premiership league programme, and although there’s a possibility we may find ourselves five points adrift, the result from Tannadice will have absolutely no bearing on our season.

Celtic must weigh up the needs of squad fitness for the next four days, concluding with the visit to Malmo on Tuesday. We have some precious limbs attached to Virgil, Scott, Stefan (J) and most of all, Sugar Ray Griffiths. I strongly recommend all are rested tomorrow. The consequences of any of these players being injured for Tuesday is not worth contemplating.

It was considerably reassuring that Qarabag, who Celtic eliminated in the last round of the Champions League, won away at Young Boys of Berne last night. Any team winning in Switzerland have earned respect.

It was just as reassuring that Malmo’s last round opponents, Salzburg, went down 2-0 to Dinamo in Minsk. It’s difficult to determine comparative strengths this early in the season, but some people may have overestimated Salzburg and underestimated Qarabag,

We’ll find out on Tuesday.

Well done to all concerned with the Jock Stein Charity Match, which takes place on Sunday, 6 September, at East End Park, Dunfermline, in aid of Celtic Foundation and Pars’ Foundation. Alan Stubbs, who will be wearing the hoops one more time, said, “The thing about Celtic is that it’s a fantastic club, both when you’re there and when you’re not, and that’s a testament to the fans”.

Best of luck for the season, Alan.

British Champion boxer and Celtic fan, Scotty Cardle, is also playing, as is X-Men star, James McAvoy. Details here.

Forrest gave up the need to track back and left Effe exposed. not his fault.

  2. On Tuesday, Celtic will play, financially, the BIGGEST match in its 127 year history.

And to put things in perspective, the £20 million prize, equates to around 15% of what Chelsea will spend in the transfer window.

We are now as far away from the EPL and the top European leagues, as Juniors are to our Premiership.

To dispose of Malmo and to be in with the financial giants is mind-blowing.

With such things at stake, it makes the slackness last Wednesday, from a bigger winning margin, almost unforgivable.

Marbor last year, Malmo this – we may not have these chances again, for a long time, if ever.

The more Dundee Utd type players, we are forced to recruit, the more we will become accustomed to Dundee Utd levels of performance and success.

The guy has been plagued with injuries, over the last couple of games, I see a really Strong James emerging, despite all the criticism.

Thumbsup to that, thats for sure.

James was excellent against Malmo, James has played poorly in many a game I won’t deny that, but the guy is, if he can become consistent and stay injury free, a genuine CL operator.

burnley 78 – Looks like Paddy O’Shea’s might be your best bet for the game in Beijing today, several big screens. Nothing on Celtic Bares but the website link is here http://www.paddyosheas.com/

    Hope you are lucky

  15. Ronny’s selection will be interesting later.

I hope the likes of Fisher, Rogic, O’Connel and Tierney get a chance to shine.

  16. Gerryfaethebrig on

Nir Biton better than the maestro ?

Since Paul is coming up for 51 some might say Nir is better, on their day in my opinion big Nir couldn’t lace the maestro’s boots

Anybody carrying an injury or a doubt don’t play them today, if I was Leigh Griffiths I would be gutted not too start, when a guy is in the form he is, the last thing you want is not playing, injuries can happen anywhere, if Griff is fit let him keep scoring, Malmo is massive but so is form and our striker probably thinks he can score every time he gets the ball, win the day and Tuesday will take care of itself

  17. antipodean red on

    Gerryfaethebrig,

Correct, anyone who watched Paul objectively through the good and bad days will know that he gave his all to Celtic over a long period and if you watched him in a good few of the games against the dead team, it was like watching a classical composer conducting his orchestra. A true Celtic Legend, the Maestro, Paul McStay

  18. Gerryfaethebrig on

    Antipodean Red

Paul McStay was outstanding a lot of people remember his obvious passing ability and running the midfield but when he broke through his goal scoring exploits were outstanding think he scored on his debut, first old firm game, seem to remember him scoring as at youngster at the Beach End at pittodrie and many many more, think carrying a whole team at times in his latter years took its toll, as you say through the good and sometimes very bad days…..

There aren’t many players you remember a pass but his pass at Parkhead to Chris Morris in one game against the defunct club lives long in the memory when Morris squares it for a brilliant team goal…. As you say he ran the show against that mob many times

  19. May God Bless the Glasgow Celtic FC and ‘all’ who L-O-V-E her.

Hail Hail….try to post again in a few days….afore ah go…Delaneys Dunky, I hope all went well for yer family’s very important day…God Bless….Philbhoy and family….thoughts and prayers from my family to yours and to any other Tims who may be battling their own personal demons…Bless.
