Rodgers talks but he’s not telling the story

162

It has all worked out for Brendan Rodgers.  He could have fallen on his face at Leicester, instead, he sits second in the league, above Pep the Perfect, and is talked about for jobs in Manchester and North London.  As far as career development moves go, you have to hand it to him.  His next contract, which will come soon, is likely to be four times his rate at Celtic.

None of this justifies what he did.  Not the problems of his own creation in August last year, when he jeopardised our Champions League qualification efforts to create a faux exit narrative, nor leaving us with indiscreet haste, two days before a Premiership visit to Tynecastle and a weekend Scottish Cup-tie at Easter Road.  The move was right for him, which is all that mattered.

Maybe I’ve seen too many of them come and go to be bothered by it anymore.  Jock Stein knocked back Manchester United to remain at Celtic, but they are all careerists now, all of them.  It takes more than talent to make it to the top of the game.  You also need incredible commitment and a level of self-sacrifice that only comes if you are motivated to achieve personal success.  You will not go through the daily pain of training until your lungs burn and your body aches for thousands of people you may never meet, and who will occasionally shout abuse at you.

Yesterday he spoke to the press about his exit from Celtic.  I am happy to listen to his story but it is clearly too soon for him to be frank.  I’ll listen when he tells us why he was happy to throw away our Champions League qualification campaign to engineer an exit.

  1. I see Robertson, McTominey and Fraser all pull out of the Scotland game.

Celtic send wee Lewis in to help make up the numbers.

you could be right but there is a hatred between the two clubs.

changing off the guard etc might have solved this.

if they thought he could do the job and get them somewhere that they used to be all bets off.

    Saw your post on SC.

If you read back yesterday’s posts you will see he did start the shit.

Looks like I’ve been barred by SC. Not allowing me to post.

    …………..

I have to ask as I try not to look at SC…Is that BP at it again ?

I hope that you dont mind me asking ?

    HH mate.

  4. Yes I recall we had just been beaten in the SC semi by the Sevconians on penalties. Sevconians celebrating at Hampden after knocking us out of the Scottish Cup. Great. Remember it well, there was no way Ronnie D could survive after that. What was coming next we were all wondering.

And when he did arrive, Wow, we had a fantastic time running up cricket scores against the baddies, absolutely fantastic and personally will always be grateful to BR for giving us that glorious period, nearly 3 seasons worth,

But when he says he had gone as far as he could with us and left for the challenge of making Leicester a credible force in the Premiership once again, you have to ask what about the challenge of making Celtic a credible force in Europe once again, was that not an even bigger challenge? Maybe too big?

I still like BR, not as much as he likes himself I suspect, but I like Neil Lennon – Mr Celtic – even better.

    ___

The rest of Scotland are up in arms about it.

They can’t hide their hatred for all things Celtic. If you ask them “If not Lewis Morgan, who else?”

The answers are laughable. Billy Gilmour is the most popular.

A central midfielder with 169 minutes of professional football. Aye, he’s the guy to cover left wing.

Surely Leicester became a credible premiership force when they won the league?

    Cheers and HH.

What you say is absolutely correct in my opinion. However i think it would take a better man than BR to pull the wool over Peter Lawwell’s eyes.

I think PL sussed him out, sounded out our replacement then proceeded to get a managerial record transfer from his departure.

    HH.

You accusing anyone of ‘not telling the story’ is an absolute brassneck considering your total silence since the board disgracefully saying they will vote against res 12.

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

No offence intended but is this worth talking about?

Pablo – one sentence in your leader stood out for me …..

“Maybe I’ve seen too many of them come and go to be bothered by it anymore”.

    Likewise.

As a Celtic fan I had some wonderful moments watching a team coached by Brendan Rodgers.

He is a good coach, he delivers improvement.

    That’s it. Nothing more.

    Then he moved on.

    Was he a tad selfish?

Maybe, but I don’t hate him.

In fact, I feel a bit sorry for him.

I believe him when he says he was a Celtic fan as a boy.

Imagine being a Celtic fan who ultimately thinks somewhere else is better than Celtic?

I’d genuinely hate to be that person.

    Hail hail

He said he wanted to re-establish them as a force in the Premiership once again, buy yeah, you’re right.

  11. Curiosity peaked so had a quick look at Sentinel Celts – they let you curse and swear on there no bother – no moderators I guess. Also seems one or two of their posters don’t like CQN, some vowing to never post on here again. Shame given that we are all Celtic supporters with the same aim – a successful Glasgow Celtic Football Club, but hey ho, all part of lives colourful tapestry I guess,

  12. I really hope that there is no animosity between SC and CQN.

Met BMCUW a few times and he is an absolute gem of a guy.

  13. GREENPINATA

Bobby writes some of the articles and he is excellent.

I have spoken to him recently and he does not wish any bad feeling between the sites.

  14. Dear Brendan,

    Why are you so good?

I think we’ve had more Brendan Rodgers interviews after got out of Dodge, compared with when he was here.

Inevitably of course we’ll be reading about your Celtic achievements forevermore, but we’ll also be reading about your Brexit, until the last page of the internet. Not surprisingly, premature with this undying media manipulation, you’re now bumping your Daily Dafty gums about how wonderful this Leicester side are, as they’ve made it past the others in the top four, for now.

You’re not even popular on Merseyside or Glasgow ( see your transfer record ), you might even be less popular in Leicester soon, as you’ve not blown a budget, but the King Power wealth might never get tested, because you’re so good, the fans might never know get to know.

    Hail Hail

  15. My good friend Philbhoy – sounds like you’ve been fairly active on social media recently:-)

If you are open to advice please let me give you some that I got from an old boss of mine,

Never ever argue with idiots, because at the end of the argument they will still be an idiot and you will just have wasted your time,

works for me Phil, please give it a try ,

    Hail Hail

  16. BMCUW-,previously of this parish, posts regularly, for guys on SC not to do down CQN,both vehicles for guys to chat about Celtic.

completely agree, all animosity should be directed towards Sevconia, much more deserving :-)

  18. IF

We lose John Kennedy as he is now favourite for the Hibs job.

I would like to see Lenny bring in James McFadden as assistant.

McFadden impresses me when he speaks on the radio especially about Celtic.

    Smart boy .

  19. If JK does go I’m sure it will be with a view to bringing him back one day as Manager, just like big Jock had to leave to go and learn his trade. Hope so anyway.

  20. I think if you look beyond the ego, the greed and the narcissism. You will find that Rodgers bottled it from taking on Gerrard. He ran for the hills when 8 points clear. Plain and simple.

  21. One thing that has always kept me going through these dark decades for the scottish international team is that ONE DAY we might just be good enough to qualify and play in a major finals tournament again.

Unfortunately we appear to have actually got worse over the past couple of years yet find ourselves within a couple of play off 90 mins games against fellow average national teams from actually qualifying for the ‘holy grail’ major finals [Euro 2020].

Getting in this way whilst might produce incredible celebration comes at a huge cost.

No real confidence from hard earned qualification that builds a team

    Instead.

A team completely average and ready to get absolutely rinsed by the good teams.

Might be better all round that we fail in these spring play offs.?

  22. If JK goes it is with my best wishes!

And as RTB says, he could come back as manager one day.

    Sounds good to me!

  23. a wee re-post

i have a spare for the Rennes home game if anyone knows a deserving cause

    Hail Hail

  24. lazydynamite

Might be better if Steve Clarke says to Lenny et al look the group is finished I will not need Celtic players until next year and we will go all out to qualify from the play-offs say in April. Seems to work for LIverpool and Man United.

Been off work past few days but enjoyed the numerous poppy discussions which were very civil. However what did spoil it was having to consistently login to read pages. Thank goodness I have saved credentials or would have given up on this site.

Could be a reason for reduced postings tjough😱

  26. Just out of interest, does anybody know if crafty old PL has put a sell on clause on Leicester. He must have known Brendan would not be long before he jumps ship again. Man. Utd?
