  1. Re the “penalty” decision and the assistant’s lack of help, this looks like a clear case of the ref’s instructions being the issue. I’ve been assistant ref on several FA Cup games where the ref was determined to be the centre of attention, and told both assistants that if he gave a penalty, “do not think of undermining my decision” even if he made a c*** of it. Same if we saw a blatant foul, if he didn’t give it we were told to ignore it.

That’s interesting, but if you were only there to flag offside and throw-ins, assistant referee is a misnomer, you were a linesman.

  3. Schalk done the very same thing last year when he got Efe sent off and got a penalty at hampden.

another thing looking back at yersterdays incident, why would Erik tackle him as Schalk clearly didnt have control of the ball and was running away from goal? Things you would think a referee would take into consideration.

    Ten in a row:

‘They’will have this drummed into their heads. Stop 10 will be on the agenda even more.Get 10 would ruin them big time of that there is no doubt.I hope and pray that I am around when 10 occurs. It will destroy the cheating @@@@@@@@.

Ref watch on SSN will discuss the game yesterday,….coming up after

    the break.

Said it on here at the time contact (if any) was minimal and there is no way it caused Schalk to go down like that ,…………but it was Efe and even the boo bhoys weighed in saying it was his fault.

Sviatchenko didn’t even tackle never mind make contact.

  7. “Don Robertson will call Brendan Rodgers to apologise for his penalty blunder. . . . The highly-rated(!) ref intends to speak to the Parkhead boss and hold his hands up to the error”

Get the cameras in and put him on speakerphone, Brendan!

  8. Who was the assistant ref who didn’t flag for the dive yesterday?

It was either Stuart Stevenson or Graham Chambers – just for future reference you understand :-)

Ps 4th official was Clancy. Did he influence the red card decision?

    Questions, questions….

  9. For those in any doubt. Schalk was doing as he was instructed to do. He was a sub, his instructions were to get a goal or a pen at least, dont kid yerselves.

  10. Good to see the history element coming to the fore.

The RC game at Hampden was a shocker — on of many at that time.

Need to push this for discussion so that the guilty get their day in the sun..

Pattern developing — the RC player is a professional Greg Louganis type — professional diver.

The incident involving EA was always strange — no goal threat / moving away from goal yet a red.

CT as always never got the scrutiny he deserved.

Not forgetting, Craig Thomson, as he tried to soothe big TM’s aching chin.

“Any sense of injustice harboured by Celtic following their Old Firm defeat yesterday would have intensified today after the admission by the match referee, Craig Thomson, that he should have awarded an early penalty to Tony Mowbray’s side at Ibrox Park.”

MAFFO is my best bud. He’ll laugh at being called a linesman rather than Assistant Referee.

I wish he’d taken it up while he lived up here,wi his background a fast-track to the top. Shame I turned him into the huge Celtic fan he is nowadays(!)

    When I say huge,btw,he’s 6’4″. Don’t diss him!

    (He’s 400+ miles away,yer safe…)

Did you see Maffo’s recent post, suggesting he would have been told beforehand not to interfere with ref’s decisions?

  14. The fact that yesterday’s ref might have gone to a RC school has no bearing on his refereeing.

Next Sunday’s ref was head of RE in a Catholic school, yet awarded the old died Huns a penalty, when he was looking the other way!

Anyone who wants to progress as a ref in Scotland knows that they have to fit in with the prevailing ethos in the SFA, which appoints refs.

I would imagine any other team in Scotland could put together a show reel of mistakes that refs have made in their games this season, though perhaps none as bad as yesterday’s “decision”.

Well any other team bar one. In all honesty I cannot remember the Zombies being on the wrong end of any such decisions!

The notion that the refs sit down and plan all this is one that I do not subscribe to at all, since there is no need for a formal planning session. They all”know” before hand what gets refs promoted and what doesn’t. As someone once said “You don’t need a conspiracy, when you have a group of like minded individuals”

  15. BEATBHOY, never got to do the big teams, by the time they get involved the refs are all professional, and my job pays too well and demands too much of my time for me to have gone for the next promotion to that level. As a senior county ref, I got final preliminary rounds. The refs on these games would want to be “responsible” for getting the big decisions right, but wouldn’t hesitate to dump you in it with the assessor when they got it wrong and the assessor would have expected the assistant to flag. I got wise to this and made it clear to several refs that I wasn’t prepared to compromise myself by ignoring my own refereeing ability. As I wasn’t interested in further promotion I could make this call, but not so easy for young, up and coming refs. Would be interesting to see what the assessor made of Robertson’s performance.
