My appetite for circulating in public diminished after hearing news of how the virus has taken hold in several towns across the country. Public health always comes first, with the consequences of the economy and children’s education following closely. Nothing else really matters.
Despite that, we have to learn how to navigate our lives through this and news that 300 people will attend Ross County – Celtic and Aberdeen – Kilmarnock on Saturday is very welcome. Not much will be learned from such a low number, perhaps only that the temperature measuring equipment used works (it has already been tested in greater numbers, it works), but it feels significant that the Scottish Government acknowledge that controlled trials of any activity is necessary and responsible behaviour.
And be clear: despite being practically the last activity permitted, the health risks of socially distanced, well policed, outdoor gatherings is negligible to zero. Pubs reopened for indoor custom in Scotland eight weeks ago, without police oversight or any prior trials.
Now that the concept of holding trials has been agreed, the next step must be to hold meaningful trials, when we will learn how efficiently thousands of fans filter through entry systems. Who knows, maybe taking fans out of the pub to an outdoor stadium to watch the game will slow the virus. If only the world’s entire scientific community would speak clearly that indoor meetings are more dangerous than outdoor, the Scottish Government’s Indoor Pubs First, Outdoor Football Last policy would be less confusing. Not that policy from London is any better; I’m beginning to think the SNP’s strategy of shadowing Boris Johnson’s government on Corona planning is not such a great idea.

A deeper consideration of the potential for this new way of funding Scottish football would have been a worthy topic for a lead article.

I think we are being subjected to a herd immunity approach by stealth. I think our UK right wing government has an economy first, economy second and economy last approach to this.

All of that can be controlled. You can control how many people are on a bus or a train.
If every ground was like Ross County’s, and every supporter base was drawn from as small an area as Ross County’s and every crowd was restricted to 200-300 then there would be some point.
But that’s not what any of this is about.
It’s about getting tens of thousands, travelling from all over the place, into Parkhead.
It’s just not going to be happening in the foreseeable future.

We just have to redesign and reimagine for the problem. We, as the fan, have to change behaviour to play our part.

I have so much sympathy for people wanting to ‘get back to normal.’ At work, with family, socially, going to the pub and watching the fitba.
It makes people susceptible to a siren call from a mop-headed fool to get back into town. Driven mainly by the desire and pressure to re-line the pockets of his party’s financial supporters.
Much of this deadly virus remains unknown to a greater or lesser extent. One certainty is that social mixing is where its multiplication spawns.

Of course there is that but in a world where this pervades everything we have taken for granted, sitting in the house forever isn’t sustainable. We must adapt.
We aren’t dealing with a known that lasts until late Autumn say, but possibly a way of living with it possibly for years.
Ensuring our environments are controlled as best we can against the spread of the virus is a somewhat more realistic view of how things will pan out.
Pubs and schools have reopened too soon.
Pubs for the boost to the economy. Schools so that there are babysitters for the minimum wage workers to return to work. There is a cull of the population going on.
Survival of the fittest times. Football should not have crowds in stadia yet. Too early.
Then again, it is all about the money.
Economy before lives. Disgusting.
I think there are a plethora of midfielders in front of Rogic in the manager’s eyes. He likes legs and movement more and I’m not sure Tom feels the love like he did before.
I’d still expect him to be gone by the end of the window. Sadly, as I love the big man on his day.

I hear you Ron. I’m not for a minute saying it is an easy slam dunk but if the house rules change to allow us to get in and see the game then I trust we play our part and help self-police. If we don’t, then it’s a pretty quick and fast level of consequence – Ground shut.
Here’s an idea. Test for temperature and also those over the drink limit. Negative scores on both and no entry.
