Season for points to be dropped in unlikely places

751

Yesterday’s result at Ibrox gave some welcome encouragement but it would be wrong to read too much into it.  Rangers still have the kind of lead that would have Celtic thoroughly confident of a league win and, lest we forget, St Johnstone collected all three points from Celtic Park already this season.

The win at Inverness was much more important.  The Highlanders are bottom of the league but that is a false position.  Two points separate Hibs, Dunfermline, Aberdeen and Inverness, while Kilmarnock, who shipped six goals to Inverness at home two weeks ago, are only a further two points away.  Even with 10 men Inverness remained well organised yesterday, don’t be surprised if they move ahead of the four teams above them in the weeks to come.

The league is remarkably tight from fourth place St Johnstone to bottom Inverness, where fewer points separate the teams than split Celtic and Rangers. Don’t, therefore, be surprised if points are dropped in the most unlikely places.

Wee man lost 4-1 to Dyce today and some of DYCE coaches said they hadn’t lost in 5 years.

First half our boys struggled to get out our own half second half I thought we were better team but

    DYCE deserved win

  2. good to see Chelski got cuffed

but Kenny was a little lucky, i thought

he took off Bellamy around 60mins

    brought on Henderson

needed more on right wing at the time and

CB was a real threat, not on a yellow

Ash Cole duffed the challenge for the winning goal

Kenny got a way with it, methinks

  3. setting free the bears

I’ve just tallied up bookings and fouls for us and them so far this season in Scotland.

    Celtic – 166 fouls, 17 yellows. 1 straight red.

    1 yellow per 9.76 fouls, 1 red per 166.

Opposition facing Celtic – 204 fouls, 33 yellows. 2 straight reds.

    1 yellow per 6.18 fouls, 1 red per 102.

    Rangers – 158 fouls, 26 yellows. 1 straight red.

    1 yellow per 6.08 fouls, 1 red per 158.

Opposition facing Rangers – 174 fouls, 36 yellows. 2 straight reds.

    1 yellow per 4.83 fouls, 1 red per 87.

So, we’ve fouled a bit more than Rangers, but have been treated fairly leniently.

However, if you are facing Rangers, expect to be treated more harshly with the cards.

Pregnant girlfriend of Celtic striker “upset” after vandals target home

Police are investigating after vandals targeted Celtic striker Anthony Stokes’ home

THE HEAVILY pregnant girlfriend of Celtic star Anthony Stokes was left upset by vandals who smashed a window during an attack on the couple’s home.

Stokes was away preparing for his side’s SPL away match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle when the crime took place at 2.30am on Saturday.

His partner Debbie, believed to be seven or eight months pregnant, is understood to have been asleep in the house on her own at the time.

The couple left the £400,000 five-bedroom property in Broxburn, West Lothian, to spend the following night in Glasgow.

Just hours after the incident, Stokes scored two goals for Celtic against Inverness.

A neighbour said the player, who has been targeted before, is considering moving away from the town centre property.

Police investigated after a gang of around 15 youths laid siege to the house as his parent’s cowered inside after an Old Firm clash in October last year.

Residents today condemned the attack and called for the couple to be left in peace.

Neighbour Jim Armstrong, 51, said he spoke to Debbie on Saturday afternoon when he boarded up the bottom floor window of the two storey house. “She’s seven or eight months pregnant. If she was in when it happened she must have herself a bit of a fright,” he said.

“I think she was a wee bit upset. I know Anthony phoned her to go to Glasgow after it. They had a night out there, but whether it was planned I don’t know.

“Whoever did it obviously targeted the house, because my van was sitting there and they haven’t touched it. I think it’s a Rangers Celtic thing. It’s a piece of nonsense. He signs tops for the kids around here and things like that. It’s a shame because I think they want to move now. They are fantastic neighbours.”

One resident, who did not wish to be named said: “I’m a Rangers supporter, but I think it’s bang out of order.”

Broxburn Councillor Ellen Glass added: “I think he should be left to live his life wherever he wants in peace. I think it’s a disgrace. We should be privileged to have someone like him living here. I believe he has been very supportive of the community and especially the youngsters.”

Stokes was also away when a gang shouted death threats and sang sectarian songs outside the property last year.

But his parents John and Joan were trapped inside as a group of around 15 youths gathered outside.

A wheelie bin was thrown against the living room window of the house in the town’s West Main Street.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the latest incident. A spokesman said: ”Lothian and Borders Police are investigating after the window of a property in Broxburn, West Lothian, was damaged.

“No one was injured during the incident, which happened around 2.30am on Saturday. However, anyone with information that can assist officers with their enquiries is asked to come forward.”

  5. Evening all.

Good weekend – a win for us, dropped points elsewhere and Butcher(‘s Apron) spitting blood. Strange that he rages about Samaras but conveniently forgets to mention crude, badly-timed tackles on Matthews and McCourt. (Always love the fact that the David Murray delivered wine gets a mention).

Regardless, looking forward to the Dunfermline game.

EYES ON THE PRIZE, BHOYS – IT’S STILL GAME ON.

  6. How could the police deal with 15 youths laying siege to a house when they are busy looking after real criminals using the term ‘hun’.

I thought at the start that Man City would walk the league, now I can’t see where they’ll be beat. THe EPL is very poor at the moment but despite that I reckon City will go the league undefeated (who would’ve thought spending a billion quid would make you invincible :o)

  8. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

Murdochauldandhay……..as you say, stats are not required…….didn’t see the Stokes family story in any of the main media outlets today..??…….absolutely shocking, and something needs to be done about all this ……….. for far too long it has been dangerous to support, play for, or manage Celtic…..(I’m still convinced that WGS didn’t leave Celtic for football reasons) …….

  9. Sorry ranjurs supporting terrorist thugs should make it clearer

Just hope they Anthony and his partner Debbie and there unborn child are safe and well

  10. Ive been lucky this weekend to have met a Great CQNer who wrote this in the CQN magazine…

When Celtic fans meet for the first time they identify with each other not just because thye share a love for a football club but because things far more important than simply a shared Love of a CLUB they hold dear

I’m surprised by those stats, didn’t realise Celtic had committed so many fouls, not that it is a lot, it is just over 10 a game but I thought our foul average was lower, the bulk must have been earlier in the season when the players were getting up to speed.

    Thanks for doing the research.

  15. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

    Feeling SMUG..

Two players in recent times I have predicted would do well at Celtic that many have have thought weren’t good enough – Stokes and Mulgrew..

Stokes record speaks for itself…basically scored at this level for 3 teams. Mulgrew I watched a fair amount of at Pittodrie. A guy I always wanted but never cam who would also have done well and cost next to nowt – Russell Anderson…

Two SPL players I would sign – Milson at Aberdeen and Paul Gallacher at Dunfermline. Many would poo-poo these guys but I think they’d do well..

  16. That’s 11 goals in 14 games for baba diawara and Sevilla and Porto are now sniffing around…

We definitely missed a snip for £2.2m I think

‘There is plenty of circumstantial evidence that the club’s founders intended Celtic as a means of bringing together Irish and Scots. There is the name itself, which encompasses both Irish and Scots.’

Today the word celtic is taken to mean Scottish or Irish or Welsh or Cornish or Breton.

In 1888 it was generally regarded as meaning Irish.

Ascribing a 21st century meaning of a word to its use in the 19th century is, at best, muddle headed.

Just to remind you, you claimed

‘They chose the name, “Celtic,” to build bridges with the native Scots, and doing anything which leads to unnecessary division with our neighbours’

There isn’t a scrap of evidence that’s why the name was chosen. It’s a myth.

‘(and singing rebel songs certainly is unecessary and creates division) would go against everything Brother Walfrid stood for.’

What do you make of Brother Walfrid inviting TD Sullivan to sing God Save Ireland at Celtic Park?

It’s a song that commemorates the Manchester Martyrs, a group of Irish Republicans, who were executed for the murder of an English policeman whilst trying to free other Republicans from custody. They were what you would no doubt describe as convicted terrorists.

Was it necessary for Brother Walfrid to do that? No.

Would it have created division with the native Scots? Yes.

Whether the name was chosen to appeal to both Irish and Scots or not, you still cannot justify singing rebel songs at Celtic Park on the basis that it is part of Celtic’s heritage. You have to stretch credibility beyond breaking point to think that.

    its not.

but that was a really really stupid question.
