Season for points to be dropped in unlikely places

751

Yesterday’s result at Ibrox gave some welcome encouragement but it would be wrong to read too much into it.  Rangers still have the kind of lead that would have Celtic thoroughly confident of a league win and, lest we forget, St Johnstone collected all three points from Celtic Park already this season.

The win at Inverness was much more important.  The Highlanders are bottom of the league but that is a false position.  Two points separate Hibs, Dunfermline, Aberdeen and Inverness, while Kilmarnock, who shipped six goals to Inverness at home two weeks ago, are only a further two points away.  Even with 10 men Inverness remained well organised yesterday, don’t be surprised if they move ahead of the four teams above them in the weeks to come.

The league is remarkably tight from fourth place St Johnstone to bottom Inverness, where fewer points separate the teams than split Celtic and Rangers. Don’t, therefore, be surprised if points are dropped in the most unlikely places.

I agree only if we sort the centre halve issue in Jnauary. Becoming ludicrious now that area of our team.

‘The Scottish Parliament will now debate the issue, following a motion from Nationalist MSP Jim Eadie who said the 1701 Act was an “ancient anachronism”.

It will be the second time in 12 years Holyrood has discussed royal succession, after a debate in 1999 concluded the Act had “no place in modern society”.’

But they’re content to leave the hereditary monarchy in place.

Presumably because it isn’t an ancient anachronism and therefore has a place in modern society.

Couldn’t agree more, it amazes me when lesser clubs take points from them when we can’t, despite our resource.

We play one up front and score three against Rennes, then revert and regularly score two at best, with every striker available on the pitch.

The Celtic side (at present) is built to fail, sadly very much in the way Tommy Burns RIP sides regularly ‘nearly beat them’, they know how to defend, and win a game by route one, and they are waiting on us coming off the team bus, at Ibrokes.

This time round they don’t even need particularly good players, whilst Celtic’s back four is Bosman based, and destined to struggle in that fixture, even with all our pretty ball players.

We can afford a superior Ross Tokely or Gary Kenneth type player but we’ve chosen poorly consistently, and pay the price week in week out.

However, we’re still in it to win it and I hope your theory on lesser clubs style remains accurate till the end of the season, I maintain someone at Celtic

should be taking very careful note on how it’s done, especially given our undoubted superior potential stock.

Read your recent cut and paste re the ongoing farce that is Sion / UEFA..

Yes -Sion lost that particular legal round but the writer failed to mention that UEFA are still paying Sion 1000 Swiss francs a day for every day that UEFA fail to reintegrate Sion back into the Europa League [ as ordered to by another Swiss Court ]].

The Court of Arbitration in Sport is scheduled to be adjudicating on the case [ yet again ] later this week.. Sion have reiterated that they have no intention of going anywhere near that Court and have repeated their claim that the CAS is corrupt and is a UEFA poodle.

Mainstream / football media in Italy [ who have been reporting the Sion thing since early summer 2008 ] have reported that UEFA have submitted a request to the relevant European Courts in which they ask that ” footballing matters ” be left to the relevant Football Authorities. No surprise there !

Love the hypocrisy of an organization which gives itself the right to sanction Clubs and Associations who go running to The Law , running to The Law in order to try and save its bloated, corpulent and corrupt ass.

I find myself agreeing with one or two of your posts recently! One of us must be taking our medication!:>)

Like you, I think the title is of secondary importance this year. Of course, I want to win it, but the big game is taking place off the field.

When all around us are faltering, including the game itself in Scotland, Celtic are steering the ship, hopefully into calmer waters.

When the denouement occurs, we should be in a good, healthy place to take advantage.

Perhaps, with Clydesdale ending their sponsorship at the end of next season, that would be a good time for Celtic to also end their life support to Scottish football.

    Notice to Resign, Celtic.

Have to say I was surprised to se the old 4-2-4 rolled out again on saturday. We played well with 1 up front so why change it? Thankfully we were not a goal down when we stiffened the midfield and ran out comfortable winners but why oh why the 4-2-4 again.

  7. MurdochauldandHay

It was worse than that, in real time he thought it was a straight red, he then went on to say Samaras ‘milked it’ after seeing the replay his tone changed to very nearly blaming Catholic Schools, when a Celtic player had just been hit in the face.

Burley is Booth is Paterson is McLean is Nevin yada yada yada

Gordon Strachan embarrassed them all at half time with a lesson in neutral commentary, my bet is he won’t get a regular slot on ESPN?

Yep I hope so to but I do not think we have any escape route planned .. it will be a case of scaling down even more. We make more money from pre season than we do during the season if our custodians dont plan on European income and they never do teh cautious little souls that they are. Their ambition says it all really.

Barcelona only drew at Ibrokes, (and prompted Messi’s anti – football, comment.)

So, I’m not advocating Celtic play like Rangers, quite the contrary, if ever there was a

club not to mimic for any reason, whatsoever, they’re it.

If you insist on playing the Celtic way, it can should be done with a more modern 4-2-3-1 or straight

4-5-1. which incidentally creates more goals, ( you have the stats )

The trick as always is buying or signing better players, especially in the back four where we’ve failed since losing the

colussus “Heid” and his partnering colossus “Hoof”

    It’s not rocket salad.

  16. I think I have this BOB KYP thing down to a T!

    Here goes.

I blame Anthony Stokes for the attack on his home. If he didn’t stay there he couldn’t intimidate the pleasant residents of Broxburn to act with full justification. It’s an absolutely rediculous level of duress for a public figure such as Anthony Stokes to place on the local community.

Have to disagree with that. Tactics did not beat us in the League Cup final. And although they deserved their win at Ibrox earlier this season, Neil Lennon’s first defeat at Poundland, once again basic mistakes cost us.

Admittedly, we were poor in both games – but if Celtic play football against Rangers we will win far more often than not. The only piece of football in that game at Ibrox led to Hooper’s goal.

Celtic have nothing to fear against Rangers. Cut off the supply of punts by defending from the front and we will easily beat them.

  19. Awe Naw,

With the game generally hanging on a shoogly nail, I’m not sure if anyone could plan a precise escape route.

Perhaps the best we can hope for s to be in a position to take advantage of whatever opportunities arise.

The report of the hun’s own Comical Ali resurrecting the mouth salivating prospect of a US game against us, is laughable in their desperation to hang on to our coat tails.

    A hun friendly American base?

Call Sarah Palin and see if her local ground is available for July!

  20. Awe_Naw

    Naw ;-)

Joe Ledley signs on Bosman for St Johnstone?

Adam Matthews signs on Bosman for St Johnstone?

We pay vastly superior wages to any club in Scotland although it may not be enough to get us out of our current predicament, because it only works sometimes, and at Centre Back the Bosman market has failed us.

  21. Ah.This is marvelous,just marvelous… :)

    Don’t you see it?

This is winning,as yer man Charlie Sheen would say.

Once again they are degenerating, reverting back to type.Another sweet European victory, and in steps the Masonic – fuming, absolutely livid! Then we chip two points off their lead – and what do they do? They put Stokesy’s windy in,that’s what!!!

How funny was the CSA? Telling the chief Masonic, second name for first name – “who do ye hink ye are?” – “away you and take yer face for a shite ya wee rocket ye..!”

Some would liken their behaviour to that of a fish on a hook – I would describe it as being more like that of a cornered rat – still dangerous, still fighting and biting – but still trapped, knowing that the fatal blow is about to be struck.

WE ARE GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE.
