Serious Treble Threat, material loss

624

Pretty gutted for Inverness keeper Dean Brill, who will miss the Hampden Scottish Cup semi final with a dislocated knee.  We saw enough from the Highlanders on Saturday to know they pose Serious Treble Risk, but you want to beat teams at full strength.

Anyone who tells you Celtic suffered a material loss due to Rangers liquidation is blowing out his bum.  We lost some revenue but we’ve not been in such good shape, financially and on the field, in years.

I I could argue it was the best thing to happen to Celtic in the last 48 years but we’ll have the decades to come to ponder the full impact.

The Memorial Stone for CQNers no longer with us has now been fully funded with circa £500 left over for Mary’s Meals. A humbling effort, well done to all involved, especially TBJ.

  1. My expectation of going to see Celtic has never been based on anything other than seeing Celtic. It is my identity

    win loose or draw.

no entitlement. It is a precious gift

i expect Celtic to work for everything they are Champion in.

    Thats what makes us champions.

Just in from work. Anyone know when the last 5 fixtures will be announced? I’d have thought this could have been done already now that the top 6/bottom 6 have been finalised.

By my calculations we ought to have away matches at Aberdeen and Dundee United, and be due home games against St J, Dundee, and ICT. However that would give us a final total of 20 home games and 18 away games by the season end. Can’t see the powers that be allowing that anomaly to stand.

Trying to organise a trip north from sunny Devon for a home match before the season’s end so the sooner they get announced the better.

    Geordie,

Ah, the great Belhaven debate from yesterday, which I take full responsibility for initiating.

I haven’t had as much response to a post since I post ” Mowbray must stay ” after the game in Paisley.

Anyway, the word in question is pronounced ” ponny”. It comes at the end of the first line of the couplet and rhymes with “bonny” at the end of the second line.

Just to confuse you more, those crafty brewers have two ads and both featured yesterday, but only one contains the mysterious word!

You wont get an argument from me. I agree that we dont need them to survive, and in the long run, will do as well or better without them.

My fear is that PL and/or DD (and/or others who are presently running Celtic) think we will be better off financially with Sevco than without ….

Just cancelled SKY after my cut price deal via Virgin ran out. They tried to keep me on

at a lower than normal rate, but it’s a good feeling not to have to pay SKY whom I cannot stand.

A ‘Pony’ is/was one third of a pint of beer, the second part of a “hauf n pony” in some of Glasgow’s more urbane establishments of a time.

Subsequently superseded by the more cerebrally pleasing “hauf na hauf”, being the same hauf of the first part, but served with half a pint of beer to chase the whisky, rather than the third pint of gentler days.

As for a ‘ponny’, never heard of it.

Hate to be pedantic and burst that beautiful bubble of yours but if we win the double every 2nd year and the league cup every 3rd year for the treble, shouldn’t we be winning the treble every 6th year?

Unless of course you mean that no other team is ever going to win the Scottish cup ever again?

I have a wee image in my head of your missus being reluctant to ask you what you want for your dinner :)

    Mike,

No doubt they do believe we would be better off financially and they would probably be right.

However, would they actually push for them to get back in, if they didn’t get promotion?

The damage was done with the 5WA.

All that is left now is whether they survive their current mess. The rules have been broken once, thereby setting the precedent.

    To more important matters

Geordie, I’m sorry if I threw a Spaniard(sic) in your works in unraveling the Ponny Conundrum.

Proudbhoy – Decent organised crime documentary about Mafia hitman Joseph “Mad Dog” Sullivan.

The Jews were the elite criminals, still are to this day although the Italians were also very crafty – they had nothing on the Jews.

The Irish just seemed to be reckless psychopaths with a propensity for extreme violence.

Ironic that the Italians were hiring Irish killers to wipe out their Irish criminal counterparts.

    TBB,

The ponny referred to in the ad doesn’t refer to the measure of beer chaser, beloved of veteran whisky drinkers

It appears to be a made up word to describe an ingredient in Belhaven Best, possibly a contrived word to rhyme with ” bonny”.

When I worked in a bar, the measure was a quarter of a pint, as it was served in a whisky glass, which took four fills to fill a pint tumbler

Other pubs may have had different glass.

I think I recall that the strong ale glass was smaller than the half pint and may have contained one third of a pint.
