SFA corporate governance questions

Do you like our new lightweight template?  There’s a lot less green and tons more whyte.  Like it or not, the whyte template will be here for a wee while, so try to enjoy it.

Ticket arrangements for our game at Ibrox next month were always going to be tasty.  With rumour that Rangers were heading for administration, Celtic refused to forward their rivals tickets for the game on 28 December on credit, demanding payment in advance.  Rangers found the money after a failed appeal to the better nature of the Celtic board.  This proved to be a wise move as only a few weeks later Rangers were in administration leaving a trail of unpaid debts to other clubs in their wake, but an awkward situation was likely to follow with Rangers (in administration) looking to reciprocate with payment terms.

Celtic are good for the credit, but if they pay for tickets, what’s the chance Rangers will survive long enough to fulfil the fixture?

None of us are in a position to tell, but Celtic cannot sell tickets to their own supporters in the chance that Rangers will not honour them.  If Rangers are still in business, I expect a busy few days leading up to the fixture as cash and tickets are transferred.

And to think we’ve listened to all the ‘Old Firm conspiracy’ theories all these years….. didn’t turn out that way after all.

Really pleased to see STV picked up on our story of last week on the potential improper registration of players and managed to get an anonymous quote from the SFA suggesting “that if conclusive evidence can be produced, the Scottish FA could launch a wider investigation into the conduct of the club”.

“Could”!  This story has now been reported by several mainstream media outlets.  It looks like the SFA will have to be dragged into examining this by Uefa.  Embarrassingly, they are likely to conclude an inquiry into Rangers next week without reference to the 10,000lb gorilla (as No Surrender Johnston would say) in the room.

There are now serious questions of corporate governance at the association, something the chief exec was keen to avoid. If the SFA do initiate an inquiry into the multiple contract allegation, they should start by asking some of the guys who have arrived at Ibrox from continental Europe. I hear Joachim Bjorklund, a decent defender who signed his only Rangers contract in 1996, is still working in the game.

    Jock Tamson’s ill-fitting one-size-fits-all bunnett:

    Sunday, 26 February 2012 09:27

EUROPEAN EXAMINER END OF WEEK COMMENT:

    Jock Tamson’s ill-fitting one-size-fits-all bunnett!

Following initial words of support for Rangers from First Minister Alex Salmond and Sport Minister Shona Robinson – with the former describing Rangers as “part of the fabric of the Scottish nation” – it seems words of warning have been whispered into the ears of leading SNP politicians.

The proverbial grapevine suggests that the now infamous “Cybernats” have been trolling Celtic football forums – forums which have more visitors than the daily sales figures for the once famous (Glasgow) Herald – and discovered that Rangers really are perceived as more than a club. But certainly not in the Barcelona-esque way.

It is clear that that the initial SNP line was to use pleasing platitudes to wean the first sons and daughters of the Union off their Union Flags in time for the 700-years celebration of Scotland’s bloody Bannockburn victory over England and the independence referendum, both set for 2014.

But it is clear to the European Examiner that the SNP are mistaken in chasing votes from this most pro-union of constituencies, the traditionally loyalist and unionist crowd at Ibrox. By doing so the political fall-out is immense with the majority of Irish-Scottish Catholics, a community naturally inclined towards independence but opting for the union, not out of any deep ideological attachment or love, but as the lesser of two evils.

However this should not be the case. After all, it must be remembered that no other political party leader has matched the First Minister, Alex Salmond, in defending educational diversity and parental choice.

Speaking February 2008, during a speech at the annual Cardinal Winning Lecture, the First Minister said: “Today I am proud to join with you in celebrating the particular contribution of Catholic schools to our society. To our education system. And to this country. I use the word ‘celebrate’ quite deliberately. For far too long the attitude of some has been at best, grudging acceptance of Catholic education, and at worst, outright hostility.”

But in the last twelve months Mr Salmond has managed to lose his touch towards the Irish-Scots Catholic community with the SNP’s attempts to create year zero.

The first faux pas came with the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill, a piece of legislation perceived as unjustly attacking the main victims of religious and ethno-religious hate crime. A piece of legislation which totally and utterly and cowardly failed to recognize the reality that the Catholic community is between four and six times more likely to be the victims of a Religious Aggravated Crime. The second faux pas came with the redefinition of marriage consultation, in which Deputy Leader Nicola Sturgeon said she was “minded” to alter the understanding of marriage from simply being between two people of complementary sexes, The third faux pas has now come with high profile SNPers publicly proclaiming the supposed glorious history and standing of Rangers while ignoring the expenditure loss towards state schools and the tolerance loss towards Catholics schools.

To be successful with their 2014 independence referendum, with every vote needed for victory, the SNP will have to be “minded” that the Irish-Scottish Catholic community is a distinct community. One which must be respected for its 150 years history, experience and narrative. It is a natural constituency for the SNP dream of independence.

But to make that dream reality, the SNP must also be “minded” that there is a ballot-box price to pay if they try to coerce and squeeze the Irish-Scottish Catholic community into the ill-fitting one-size-fits-all passive aggressive bunnett of Jock Tamson.

  3. putting the tax avoidance of some to one side. Can I just say the fundraising effort for Vanessa is truly jaw-dropping. Real people making a real difference.

Just been onto the CFC ticket page to see if I got a ticket for the LC final, which I have :-)))

Then when you go to buy the ticket there is an overview of Hampden and you have to pick where you want to sit. However there are only 4 Celtic segments out of 32 that have seating available!

How the bloody hell can that be? I don’t believe that 30k of tickets have been bought already.

    ================

Yeah, I noticed that too. I can only assume that sections are blocked off for allocating to supporters clubs/Green Brigade etc.

And the four sections available are hardly prime viewing areas. Never mind, I’m just pleased to have got one.

  5. I WROTE THIS

I don’t normally reply to you but I’ll make an exception today – you really aren’t trying to hide it anymore.

No EBT= certain players not on the park= results across a season are not the same as the ones recorded.

Celtic did not lose the league on one match alone, it is a culmination of factors and having an opposition playing players who otherwise would not be there based on a lower salary is one of them.

If you cannot understand that, then I have nothing more to say to you.

2005 – remember Andy Davies and Hugh Dallas at Tynecastle.

    I rest my case.

Noticed that myself but your ticket will be okay until Thursday 8th March, closing date.

Is it possible these are the sections for online only? After all there will be some credit card bookings and people going into the Ticket Office in oerson e.g. me.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  9. Big Nan – depends where you are re the fireworks. Depends whether or not violence is likely to be visited upon your property, person or family. Depends whether or not you have Orcish neighbours and if so do they have a sense of humour.

Half joking and half serious, I am getting a bit worried about some nastiness coming out of their white underclass.

I’m settling for fat cigar and a good drink, bit of a sing song with friends and a huge cheesy perma-grin.

Stay safe and sorry for party pooping!!

    Paul,

It is good to see you maintain the pressure on the S.F.A. on issues of Governance such as player registration and scrutiny of club finances and ‘fit and proper persons’ . I hope our club are also monitoring these as, along with the tax debts, these will be the issues on which Rangers’ fate will be judged.. On a lighter note, I am pleased to see that Wallace is fit to play against his old team on Saturday. I think he should turn out in a strip which is two thirds maroon and one third blue.

  11. Vogue – having a wee chuckle there because whenever new toothbrushes come in to the house the wife and weans know that the green one is mine!

Sad perhaps, but I just wouldn’t feel clean using the blue one!

Overwhelmed to discover that me and one of my mini-Baldie’s have tickets for the final. Just purchased them online and though the location doesn’t look ideal to be honest I’m delighted just to have bene successful. My first final since Henrik’s Hat Trick against Kilmarnock. Hoefully more of the same this time around.

Thanks mate, I am still getting malware warnings in Opera. Perhaps it is because I am still using the old bookmark and there are some residual cookies or something from yesterday on my laptop.

Reading rangerstaxcase I see a few were getting warnings of viruses, trojan horses etcetera on CQN as the site was being developed.

Seems to me it must be more like teething troubles than anything to be seriously alarmed about.

Thanks for letting me know Opera is sound. I would hate to think new readers were being scared away hence the heads up for Paul.

This is what they seem to be doing now with tickets for Hampden. Very few tickets will have been sold as they only became available late afternoon.

They appear to be selling them a block at a time so I’d suggest going up to Parkhead and you’ll get to take your pick.

  20. A certain bigot who seems to have been forgotten recently has raised his ugly head again I see.

Anyone know what this was in aid of, and why it was there?

Unfortunately he pushes him at speed right through Big Dan.Absolute big headed f*nny!Slinks away to far side of pitch as Dan hobbles like a warrior to the sidelines.Would not be happy if I was the national team boss either.
