SFA corporate governance questions

987

Do you like our new lightweight template?  There’s a lot less green and tons more whyte.  Like it or not, the whyte template will be here for a wee while, so try to enjoy it.

Ticket arrangements for our game at Ibrox next month were always going to be tasty.  With rumour that Rangers were heading for administration, Celtic refused to forward their rivals tickets for the game on 28 December on credit, demanding payment in advance.  Rangers found the money after a failed appeal to the better nature of the Celtic board.  This proved to be a wise move as only a few weeks later Rangers were in administration leaving a trail of unpaid debts to other clubs in their wake, but an awkward situation was likely to follow with Rangers (in administration) looking to reciprocate with payment terms.

Celtic are good for the credit, but if they pay for tickets, what’s the chance Rangers will survive long enough to fulfil the fixture?

None of us are in a position to tell, but Celtic cannot sell tickets to their own supporters in the chance that Rangers will not honour them.  If Rangers are still in business, I expect a busy few days leading up to the fixture as cash and tickets are transferred.

And to think we’ve listened to all the ‘Old Firm conspiracy’ theories all these years….. didn’t turn out that way after all.

Really pleased to see STV picked up on our story of last week on the potential improper registration of players and managed to get an anonymous quote from the SFA suggesting “that if conclusive evidence can be produced, the Scottish FA could launch a wider investigation into the conduct of the club”.

“Could”!  This story has now been reported by several mainstream media outlets.  It looks like the SFA will have to be dragged into examining this by Uefa.  Embarrassingly, they are likely to conclude an inquiry into Rangers next week without reference to the 10,000lb gorilla (as No Surrender Johnston would say) in the room.

There are now serious questions of corporate governance at the association, something the chief exec was keen to avoid. If the SFA do initiate an inquiry into the multiple contract allegation, they should start by asking some of the guys who have arrived at Ibrox from continental Europe. I hear Joachim Bjorklund, a decent defender who signed his only Rangers contract in 1996, is still working in the game.

Normally, I don’t like to hear of people losing their jobs. However I am prepared to make exceptions for Laugherty, naebalance and elbows. Just a shame Davie Weir has gone. They could have raised his pension age to 105.

  10. Saint Stivs,

I read some of those wee books you get at the shop at the top of John Wood st.

One takes us back to the turn of the century when the Masons had a bonfire party up and down Princes st. The minister was asked what he thought of the influx of Irish Catholics and was found to have said that the people are nice but the parish preist is an upstart wanting parity for his parishoners.

My Great grand parents, grandparents and parents survived this.

Now all that is left is a sporting disparity that is consuming itself in its own egocentric digestive juices. A gruesome sight

Gordon Smith came across as a total lightweight on radio the other night how he has made a living out of Scottish football I will never know. Don’t answer that…..jobs for the boys and all that.

Snake plissen the motherwell game when martin oneil was the manager.we mcdonald scored 2 that afternoon ,killed our hopes of winning the league, ebts didnt cause us to lose , it was the players ,same up at inverness last season the players again cost us the title not E B Ts ,so just have the balls to come on here and say them teams wereto blame, and dont look for excuses to blame everyone else for us losing them titles

    ======================

    EBTs enabled Rangers to win.

They enabled Rangers to sign a better quality player than had they not been used. If the EBTS are not allowable as a suitable remuneration method then the players they purchased and the results they achieved are through an unfair competitive advantage. Unfair geddit?

    Freddybhoy,

if you think about it, you would expect them to at least know the rules of the game, they dont, but it does’nt stop them telling the world the do.

You would expect them to maybe know the rules of the governing bodies, they dont but it does’nt stop them telling the world they know better than any of the public the ridicule.

None I have heard, could I possibly consider to have any expertise in the game they report on for a living, yet they spout inaccurate opinions making sure there is always ambiguity.

So it only leaves editorial power, as the reason real experts are not employed.
