SFA corporate governance questions

987

Do you like our new lightweight template?  There’s a lot less green and tons more whyte.  Like it or not, the whyte template will be here for a wee while, so try to enjoy it.

Ticket arrangements for our game at Ibrox next month were always going to be tasty.  With rumour that Rangers were heading for administration, Celtic refused to forward their rivals tickets for the game on 28 December on credit, demanding payment in advance.  Rangers found the money after a failed appeal to the better nature of the Celtic board.  This proved to be a wise move as only a few weeks later Rangers were in administration leaving a trail of unpaid debts to other clubs in their wake, but an awkward situation was likely to follow with Rangers (in administration) looking to reciprocate with payment terms.

Celtic are good for the credit, but if they pay for tickets, what’s the chance Rangers will survive long enough to fulfil the fixture?

None of us are in a position to tell, but Celtic cannot sell tickets to their own supporters in the chance that Rangers will not honour them.  If Rangers are still in business, I expect a busy few days leading up to the fixture as cash and tickets are transferred.

And to think we’ve listened to all the ‘Old Firm conspiracy’ theories all these years….. didn’t turn out that way after all.

Really pleased to see STV picked up on our story of last week on the potential improper registration of players and managed to get an anonymous quote from the SFA suggesting “that if conclusive evidence can be produced, the Scottish FA could launch a wider investigation into the conduct of the club”.

“Could”!  This story has now been reported by several mainstream media outlets.  It looks like the SFA will have to be dragged into examining this by Uefa.  Embarrassingly, they are likely to conclude an inquiry into Rangers next week without reference to the 10,000lb gorilla (as No Surrender Johnston would say) in the room.

There are now serious questions of corporate governance at the association, something the chief exec was keen to avoid. If the SFA do initiate an inquiry into the multiple contract allegation, they should start by asking some of the guys who have arrived at Ibrox from continental Europe. I hear Joachim Bjorklund, a decent defender who signed his only Rangers contract in 1996, is still working in the game.

  12. Paul….. Question.

Considering platini and UEFA s plan of ridding our game of financial ‘doping’, rangers case/ well orchestrated pantomime must have got the attention of UEFA ?

We here have pointed out the unfair advantage that rangers gained domestically through basically as it looks… Not paying their taxes….

Surely this also applies to the various clubs rangers knocked out of Europe over the last 10 years ? Prelimary rounds in all??

What if thoseclubs abroad were highlighted to the finer details of how their victors gain an unfair advantage over them too by playing players that they …. Well couldn’t afford ?

    Can? Worms?

    paulanthony,

we could be denied European competition as part of the colateral damage when the SFA are brought to book.

Do you think it would be worth it to kill the beast

  15. Neil…. If we leave it to the SFA nothing will be done!

Let the whole world seethe corruption in our game …

    Corruption to stifle us!

Let this pave the way to pastures new for our club!

  16. Paul67 – I can’t help but think that through all the years of lies, cheating, handshakes, Celtic paranoia (co the Scottish meedja) and now tax evasion that our board didn’t know that something was amiss. I don’t understand how/why it was not challenged through legal channels or did they know something we didn’t.

i.e. it would be a Whytewash (see wot I did there).

I understand that they did not have access to the information that is coming out now and I commend them for their swift riposte’s to recent comments but there was a lack of challenge to the contempt to which we were held, for so long.

Happier days ahead as I do think UEFA will become involved and the establishment here will find that they are not BLUEFA!

    Evening all.

The site linked below is the main forum for Scots trad music and song.

I stopped paying attention to it years ago because of the anti-Irish attitude prevalent in the discussions, and anti-Catholic sentiment expressed profusely at the recent Papal visit to Scotland.

Now it is worse, as these attitudes are going unchecked.

I advised this nice woman to consult this forum for a band for a wedding. How embarrassed, angry and ashamed I am now at the reaction she received, and the lack of reaction from those who also contribute to that forum.

As many of us know, the battle against bigotry in this country does not stop at Rangers.

It’s rapidly on the increase thanks to operation Hun (or just SDM?) Rescue from the media, and the Divide and Conquer assault all over.

Forgive my anger. While we are aware of folks putting themselves in danger to do the simple thing of exposing the truth, we need to remember that the bigotry is still openly accepted in other areas.

Thanks for all that information about accessing the radio etc.

I am a technophobe in many ways, and usually have to phone my sons to find out what to do when I get stuck. I will endeavour to listen in when things are live. I have to say that it makes me livid enough when I am listening to a recording, so Ghod knows what would happen to me in a live show.

Actually, part of me doesn’t even want to encourage the idiots on the panel, because they always have control and final say.

    Fortune,

I posted the last without clicking on the link. I now see that forum with which you had an issue was actually the Trad music one. Your post seemed to suggest that the problem was here, and not there, if you know what I mean.

  25. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on

    RWE,

The reactions to Helen’s comments were because she asked for some Irish music. The reactions that some might regard as being a defence of Scottish music have become more prevalent than ever. And the same culprits can be found indulging in tabloid hyperbole at the time of the last Papal visit.

It was my disgust at seeing the way that forum was going that turned me to this in fact, 3-4 yrs ago.

I’ve yet to see such contempt shown for neighbouring country and it’s culture in a cultural form as I’ve seen there. Although, I’m sure there will be some who want to refer to other examples. I’d pre-empt by pleading, is that right as well? That was a lovely woman who wanted to get the best her budget could allow…the response was disgusting because she referred to Irish music….and she as of tonight, had stll had no response. There used to be a lot of musicians who contributd to that site who play all diversities of music. So the lack of response in general to that thread, considering the views, upset me a lot tonight.

Am glad you asked the question….I hope I’m getting my point across…:(

Thanks for explaining. I went on the site and right or wrong assumed that you were Front of the Bus. No matter, the morons who were so quick to respond, only wanted to square up to her because of the Irish tone of her request, just as you said.

The musical stuff these morons would restrict themselves to would perhaps be the kind of stuff that Eck Salmond would describe as part of the fabric of Scottish Society!

With the Celtic Connections stuff in Glasgow, maybe she should try there for a list of bands etc who performed recently. Google?

Good luck to you and to her.

    RWE,

I saw it tonight, and set up an account as FOTB.

I was raging at the time. It’d amazing how more you react when it’s personal. This was a friend of my Dad’s looking for music. After seeing her email simply saying she’d had no response from that site I had a look and my blood boiled over, hence the reason I’m still rabbiting on about it. Have since told her it’s sorted, she’ll get the best Irish music available, which I’ll do my best to sort out. (Well I already have). What kind of image are these muckwits portraying to the rest of the world? And why do we always have to be the ones to rescue it?

The Rangers approach to life goes way beyond rangers. By that I mean the bigotry. Nothing more, nothing less. This country needs to tackle this head-on right now. If there’s a politician with the balls to do, where is he? George Galloway and Tommy Sheridan know this. But Strathclyde’s Finest don’t like lefty marxists, eh….

    Excuse my ranting RWE…..:(
