SFA corporate governance questions

987

Do you like our new lightweight template?  There’s a lot less green and tons more whyte.  Like it or not, the whyte template will be here for a wee while, so try to enjoy it.

Ticket arrangements for our game at Ibrox next month were always going to be tasty.  With rumour that Rangers were heading for administration, Celtic refused to forward their rivals tickets for the game on 28 December on credit, demanding payment in advance.  Rangers found the money after a failed appeal to the better nature of the Celtic board.  This proved to be a wise move as only a few weeks later Rangers were in administration leaving a trail of unpaid debts to other clubs in their wake, but an awkward situation was likely to follow with Rangers (in administration) looking to reciprocate with payment terms.

Celtic are good for the credit, but if they pay for tickets, what’s the chance Rangers will survive long enough to fulfil the fixture?

None of us are in a position to tell, but Celtic cannot sell tickets to their own supporters in the chance that Rangers will not honour them.  If Rangers are still in business, I expect a busy few days leading up to the fixture as cash and tickets are transferred.

And to think we’ve listened to all the ‘Old Firm conspiracy’ theories all these years….. didn’t turn out that way after all.

Really pleased to see STV picked up on our story of last week on the potential improper registration of players and managed to get an anonymous quote from the SFA suggesting “that if conclusive evidence can be produced, the Scottish FA could launch a wider investigation into the conduct of the club”.

“Could”!  This story has now been reported by several mainstream media outlets.  It looks like the SFA will have to be dragged into examining this by Uefa.  Embarrassingly, they are likely to conclude an inquiry into Rangers next week without reference to the 10,000lb gorilla (as No Surrender Johnston would say) in the room.

There are now serious questions of corporate governance at the association, something the chief exec was keen to avoid. If the SFA do initiate an inquiry into the multiple contract allegation, they should start by asking some of the guys who have arrived at Ibrox from continental Europe. I hear Joachim Bjorklund, a decent defender who signed his only Rangers contract in 1996, is still working in the game.

  1. Plans submitted for £44m Glasgow development

Plans have been submitted for a £44m hotel, restaurant and retail development in the east end of Glasgow.

The Arena development would be located alongside the new National Indoor Sports Arena and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome facing Celtic Park.

Developers said the project at Springfield Cross would bring more than 400 new local jobs.

Glasgow City Council is expected to make a decision on the application by July.

I don’t really know, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Hopefully it will improve the Celtic Park environs, and maybe accelerate improvements around CP

Apologies, reference to 1000% before should have read 1360%.

Ie. for every £1000 pound investment = £1.36M return.

    Go figure.

Alex Salmond seemed to embrace this kind of free market thinking recently though, when he supported SDM’s attempt at a similar coup in Edinburgh.

Bloody hell, tell ye whit, cannae wait for this Independent Scotland, Alex.

Thought you were referring to these things….

The money is the reason for the increased blight of bigotry in Scotland. Anyone that knows SDM will tell you he’s just no that clever. He just surrounds himself with money grabbers that are….

Hun FC is small fry in all this…nest is the SFA…but the thing genuinely scaring them all, is where can they stop it all.

Rankers= well anything from £1M to … minus £150M. It’s nothing compared to MIH’s debts.

There are bigger reasons to keep this covered up, and the inflamation of Scottish tensions using the “stupid huns” (copyright Homer Simpson and Canamalar) has proved highly successful in deflecting from the real subject matter which is core to Scotland and it’s supposed march to indpendence. The corruption.

Did you meet SDM when on hols, and he kidnapped you, locked you up, stole your bank card and identity, and is now posting on CQN as you?? Would this not seem MUCH more plausible than you posting here for years and not knowing how to make your moniker verde????

Great to have the blog back.

Obviously in a minority here but I must admit I dont like the new format. Its not made for articles or longer posts just quick comments giving a lot less words per page and more scrolling rather than reading which is a loss in my opinion.

Looking out for certain blogger names is a lot harder also.

If you can keep yer eyes peeled, I can promise controversial posts at random times.

What is better even, is that when you try to avoid my words, you might inadvertently respond to them.

    What’s not to like??

Is Paul67 not saying, pay more attention to the words, and less attention to the poster???

    Fortune,

I prefer the bigger posts such as JF’s and BRTHs but now instead of taking the whole page they will take several and lots of scrolling.

This current layout is more casual and made more for couple line comments and chat rather than insightful articles but I think the magazine may be seen as the place for the “big stuff” and this blog for back and forth chat.

Far from complaining though,,still the best blog on the net and the main place for news of our great club.

  15. Nice new look, Paul!

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but I was reading the blog on an HTC Desire last night. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get beyond p.8 – there didn’t seem t be any way to click on the next page (though I could see it was there). Turned the phone the other way round, maximised and minimised the screen, but no joy.

    Herald article says

‘Today is the last day for which all Rangers staff have been paid in advance, and from tomorrow the club must dig into any remaining funds to pay wages on a day-by-day basis.’ Are there any new fines pending, cf breaking charities laws or failing to look after the teddy bears against all natural law !
