SFA not caring enough. Morton, ooft.

658

What exactly went wrong at yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw? Plastic balls can break open, that wasn’t the problem. The rule which insists that when a ball breaks open the draw must be started again isn’t the problem either. It’s a perfectly reasonable rule, but the event still can the SFA in a dreadful light.

Imagine for a moment that you had a Cup draw to arrange live on international television. You would surely acquire the materials necessary (8 balls and a bowl), and test their effectiveness (mix the balls, pull them out, open), until you were satisfied the process was robust and not likely to embarrass the organisation.

Appropriate preparations were evidently not followed for the Scottish Cup quarter final draw.

Having got to the stage that the draw went wrong, the TV masses were then treated to the most cringe-worthy pregnant pause, as SFA president, Alan McRae completely failed to communicate, either to the watching TV audience, or to the event broadcaster SKY, why he pulled a ball out of the bowl and instead of announcing the tie, declared the draw invalid.

McRae knew the ball was opened before it was drawn, and that this invalidated the draw, but clearly the glaikit-looking TV presenter had no idea what was going on when McRae halted mid-process, neither did the TV audience. A simple explanation:

“This ball is open. Rules state the draw is invalid. We will need to start again.”

….was surely what any person possessing even remote people-awareness or communication skills would have said?

No explanation was given. We were treated instead to the site of a TV presenter trying in vain to figure out why a cup draw was scratched halfway through.

The role of SFA president requires a degree of communication skills, which Mr McRae was hugely bereft of yesterday.

As for the SFA itself, I went to their official site this morning to check the spelling of McRae’s name, only to find they still list Campbell Ogilvie as president, despite McRae’s appointment 8 months ago.

It beggars belief. They just don’t care enough to get the easy things right.

As for getting Morton at Celtic Park! Ooft.  After Ross County repeating their Hampden trick on us, Morton will fancy the same.

I know many of you have previously supported the fantastic efforts of Bundoran Bhoy. This year he is doing four runs for Solving Kids’ Cancer, in memory of Oscar Knox. His first is the Great Edinburgh (misnomer?) Run in April, the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Glasgow Men’s 10k in June and the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October.

He has just launched his 2016 fundraising efforts, so you can nip in here and encourage him along.

Your a malcontent board hater, and like the SMSM go with the flow of the divide and conquer CFC, any explanation I give to you on how CFC are ran, would only be fuelling the fires, and giving you oxygen For your agenda, like others you try to get me into trouble on here, sorry won’t work, find another mug, and you can cut and paste this to you know who as well.

Well me being me I checked after you stated it, and as just pointed out we jointly own them with The Rangers Football Club Plc. Which as we all know, no longer exists. It seems that The Rangers International Football Club Plc did not acquire those trademarks as assets in the sale.

    Trad88…,

    What is that list ?

    Looks like company names ?

I’m sure the info I saw was a list of assets belonging to the club which the phrase “old firm” was listed as a copy righted asset. I most likely seen it on here so if I saw it a few other did too but then most of them have probably chucked it.

    Ive never been a hater.

But when you start attacking supporters….while absolving the board from their responsibilities….i feel i need to say something.

Making things up about about splinter groups, that have no basis in fact….Im afraid you will need to do better than that.

    Where is the evidence?

    Weeminger,

The info most likely appeared here after liquidation and was posted to prove a point, glad to know I did not imagine it. I pay attention to a lot of things I see on here and like yourself follow up with a wee bit research, this place has educated me on many many diverse subjects that have caught my imagination simply from seeing them on here, great place for learning new stuff.

Interested in Trad88’s post with what appears to be company names.

  6. The media made up the old firm name, nothing to do with Celtic according to this, unless then again it suits your agenda, just saying like.

The Old Firm is the collective name for the Glasgow association football clubs Celtic and Rangers. The origin of the term is unclear but may derive from the two clubs initial match in which the commentators referred to the teams as “like two old, firm friends”, and represents the commercial benefits of the two clubs’ rivalry.[2] The name may also be a reference to these two teams being among the original 11 m

It says everything about the sfa that ogilvie is still on their website. In my last job that would have been one step away from a sacking offense.

    Trad88,

That makes weemingers info a wee bit curious in that it appears Celtic by default of the death of half the old firm Celtic own the copy right, yet as you say it’s no longer active, what does ‘no longer active’ mean ? Not being used ? No one has copy right ? No one is administering the rights ?

Could sevco go and buy the copy right and make more new claims about being the same club because they own the old firm ?

    Bada…,

Thanks for that, looking forward to that now, a great we bonus to give me my Celtic fix, the weeks are too long without midweek games.

  17. “Old Firm”,is not a term of endearment,it was coined as a slight to both clubs when an early 1900`s Cup Final replay was not played to a finish, both sets of fans rioted when players walked off,at it was announced a further game was needed,Greedy B******`s was the general opinion of the fans for once united in actio.

  23. Afternoon fellow Celts,

A big thank you to all on here who pre match wished Matthew all the best for Sunday’s game and of course those of you who praised his performance post match.

Thank you to CQN for the articles and match report that also praised him very highly.

He also received good publicity in the national press but the usual Sun headline was Matt McGinley wants to teach Celtic a lesson. An obvious pun on him being a teacher but if you didn’t know that you would think cheeky wee upstart ( he’s no wee at 6’3″) but you know what I mean

Anyway as his Dad I feared a heavy defeat and being a goalie I feared a fumble or dropped cross etc etc.

As I write this I’m looking at his man of the match champagne on the dining room table and I couldn’t be prouder.

Not so much because he is a good goalie but more that he has turned out to be a fantastic, lovely, humble young man.

Family is everything fitba comes a distant second.

    Hail hail Paddybhoy1888
