SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

  1. Why is everybody taking so much malice out on Ernie?

He was stating his position that is all. I personally think his opinion is worth consideration over malice.

I too don’t think the Celtic board’s strategy/objectives is always in tandem with my own, but they are the board and I, like Ernie, am just a paying customer with social ambitions over dividends and toxic mutually beneficial deals made with the devil.

    CHARLES GREEN

“We are grateful to be accepted as members of the SFL and accept their decision to vote us into Division 3.

“It is a matter of regret for all of us involved with Rangers that the issues surrounding the club resulted in the SFL and its members being placed in a very difficult position not of their own making.

“From the outset, we made clear we would play where we were told to play and we just want to get back to playing football.

“This decision maintains the sporting integrity that clubs and fans across Scotland have been calling for but it also impacts massively on Scottish football as a whole and only time will tell what the consequences will be.

“Rangers has been handed the ultimate punishment of starting again from the bottom of the leagues but there is an overwhelming feeling among fans and within the club of ‘wiping the slate clean’ as a club free of sanctions.

“The people who brought shame on this great club are no longer part of it and everyone at Rangers is focused on rebuilding the club on top of a solid financial foundation.

“We wish to play a constructive part in Division 3 and encourage our fans to support the other clubs within the league by attending matches and delivering to them the benefits of having Rangers within their league.

  3. Churnalist J. White ~ “Can you put this into words?”

Good thing that THEY are being forced into Div 3; not just “we want intae the thurd division. It’ll serve yez awe right when ye lose awe yer money jist ’cause we’re no in the SPL….’n that”

I think it will go ahead with the caveat of all that the huns won’t be part of it.

To my mind it will live or die depending on what crowds turn out to watch football this coming season.

I hope all supporters of all clubs grasp the opportunity that an ill wind has gifted them. Grab it and chase whatever dream you dream.

I intend to give Clyde a few visits this season, being my nearest local club not withstanding some superb club statements

  6. ALLY McCOIST

“I fully accept the decision of the SFL today and thank them for allowing us into the SFL.

“Clearly, starting again from the bottom league is not ideal and makes the task of rebuilding Rangers a longer one but the SFL was placed in an impossible situation and I respect its decision.

“I fully supported the fans views that starting again in Division 3 maintains the sporting integrity that the SPL clubs were so keen on.

“The SPL clubs and the SFA have made their positions clear over the last few weeks and it remains to be seen what the long-term effects of their decisions will be.

“Rangers has been severely punished for the actions of some individuals who previously ran the club and it will take time for us to recover but we will come back stronger thanks to the loyalty of the fans and the commitment of everyone at Ibrox who are working tirelessly to bring stability and success back to Rangers.

“I will be carefully monitoring events and reactions over the new few days and will be making further comments probably early next week.”

It is a long time ago now but when I lived in Glasgow, if our game was off I would go and wacth whichever game was on nearest to us.

I would go because I like watching the game. Now if I lived in Glasgow I would make an effort to go and watch a few games.

btw, the huns appear to be blaming Clyde as the one, and if not Clyde then Raith.

It would be great if all 25 clubs who voted the huns to Div 3 made claim to be the ONE.

Sky Sports have apologised for a recent advertisement which stated it would be possible to watch Rangers in 3D next season. This was due to an internal mix up and should have said D3…

Does this mean Ally McCoist can play for Rangers once again? (thumbsup)

No. He may be able to play for Sevco trading as “The Rangers” – but only if they get their SFA registration sorted…

  16. philvisreturns on

Sky Sports clarified that it will only be possible to watch Rangers play live in 4D.

Viewers will need to buy the optional flux capacitor or TARDIS packages. (thumbsup)

  17. So, with SPL2 “Doomed” given the overwhelming vote today…

With the SPL meeting on Monday not able to do much more than decide on which Club 12 is it to be – and there will be one…

What now for Sevco ? Regan’s plan is to transfer the share – great, that means that any and all sanctions which are still to be levied will need to be applied – get the Appellate Tribunal in, get the Dual Contracts investigation back into full gear, get some audited accounts…. get… a pitch… a stadium, pies and bovril, lights, action… get a move on ! There’s not much time you know, before your 1st game – come on Charlie, get moving. come on Coisty, get your Wattienachonovo formation in place…. cmon guys, hurry up… Tick Tock !!!!

What next when Kilmarnock and St.Mirren go into administration then fail to complete their fixtures next year? May I suggest if anyone has a spare bob or two, they buy Celtic shares, could this be a wise investment?

I suspect that a few of us on here would say the same thing!

For health reasons, my dad had to give up the drink a few years. At least now he can celebrate properly and with some good (old and new) friends.

Have to say …. dad’s only been gone a few weeks …. days like today I really miss him. He would be loving today. I would have been expecting his call just after the announcement …. I can almost hear his voice in my head….

Last season, I really wanted the bhoys to win the SPL for NFL…. this year, I want them to win it for my old man. .
