Shredded by Motherwell, rumour mill flight of fancy

251

For those who weren’t there yesterday, Motherwell could have had five in the second half. Twice they were clean through with Craig Gordon to beat, but couldn’t, and on another occasion Craig was stranded off his line during a penalty box scramble which could have ended either way.

By contrast, Celtic were anaemic. We struggled to open a packed Motherwell defence –Nir Bitton’s deflected goal was a consequence of Motherwell having so many players to in front of their keeper.

Motherwell did well, Scott McDonald in particular, but they were repeatedly given the Freedom of Celtic Park. It goes without saying but we need to tighten up. A new system is required, one which will protect the defence.  At the risk of sounding like the proverbial broken record, we need a defensive mid.  Anyone can open us up without someone standing guard.

You know the rumour mill is doing its thing when you receive 15 texts on the same subject. Ronny is not about to leave Celtic.

Last few hours to order from CQN Bookstore before Christmas, orders accepted until 16:00 Monday!

Was one of Kev’s alternatives (players) the great Jon Daly

Kev is stuck in the past and like everything else our memory only remembers the good things, we block out the rubbish, and as you know we had to endure plenty of rubbish during the “murdo years”

Kev, I thought young Pedro Grant had a decent game against the mighty Sevco on Saturday, actually runs like his dad, who for all your slagging was a very decent footballer, head and shoulders above anybody in the Lanarkshire area of that time, but don’t let the facts get in the way of your view, considering McNee and Keevins are your idols !

  2. Morning all.

Wild, wet and windy down here, as ever.

Celtic remind me at the moment of the Kelly Kids period: one week good, sometimes very good, the next, awful. Totally inconsistent. If we can show some improvement in the coming weeks, then I would persevere with our manager, if not, I can’t see him getting the chance of taking us forward.

We need a leader on the park; without Brown, no one has stepped up to the plate, imo.

Good morning from a cold and wet Coundon in Co Durham. I didn’t see the game on Saturday but my son was there – opinion is that Ronny is tactically inept!

I, obviously, want him to succeed but we are going backwards under his tutelage. I reckon if the Sheep had maintained their early season form and not hit their run of bad results Ronny could have possibly been getting his jotters this week. Big Sutton was getting pelters for giving his opinion after the Euro farce about removing Ronny now and rebuilding for next season – sadly he may just have been right.

As Cowiebhoy pointed out earlier about square pegs in round holes, football is essentially a simple game – play to your strengths and use players in their proper positions.

Meantime,we are where we are with Ronny. Let’s hope Santa brings him a run of victories. I know some will reckon it’s papering over the cracks, but I’ll accept that just now.

I certainly understand the calls for him to go,but I don’t think the buck should stop with him.

  11. Mark McGhee led Aberdeen to a record 8:1 european defeat to Sigma Olomouc

He led Aberdeen to a record 9:0 defeat at Celtic Park

He was Aberdeen’s 2nd least successful manager, just ahead of Alex Miller

He is the answer to the wrong question

Interesting view from Catman that Johansen will be in the clearout list for January. Hints at an attempt to heal dressing room disharmony. Nothing clears that up quicker than a run of victories then everyone wants to play. Motherwell was a missed opportunity to restore that feeling- RD will not be allowed much more time by the majority of our fans.

Ronny isn’t helping himself with his rigid formation, for his system to work the 3 behind Griff aren’t scoring, personally I would have Stoke on the left Armstrong where he should be in the middle and Kris C on the right then the goals will flow, as for the happy clapping Celtic are top of the league so am pretty happy with that, prefer us to be playing better but hey ho maybe Santa will deliver that for me on Friday,

So Platini the man who was going to introduce Financial Fair Play gets banned for 8 years for taking a bung, that we know of. Just shows you how corrupt football has become. ‘Twas always the case in Scotland! Will we see justice doled out in Scotland? – Absolutely (NOT).

  24. Morning

Not a good one either as the highlight is a trip to the dentist.

Not much to cheer on her either as the ‘Better the devil you know’:defence is advanced for Ronny . Which sums up a dismal state of affairs.

I was never too sold on Ronny when he was appointed but was won over to a degree by some good displays in the first quarter of the year. However post Quarabag things have begun to unravel. Good performances in the home games with Aberdeen and Dundee aside performances have been lacklustre. The promised high tempo , pressing game has been notable by its absence, the team looks as unfit as it ever did under NFL and tactically we are stuck in a straitjacket. I do not think it is all Ronny’s fault – a scouting system that brings Ciftci, Boyata, Cole and Blackett to the club is failing even more than Ronny is and there have been injuries that he could have done without but when you are being outwitted by Mark McGhee then I suggest you have a problem.

I do not know who you get instead of Ronny – that would come- but carrying on with a man who has become a laughing stock in the wider world seems fraught with risk

    Good day

  25. Peter Grant was a mainstay during the Huns 9 in a row,how a player of such limited ability, played so many games for us,contributed to a very poor period in our history.

  26. My friends in Celtic,

So FIFA “ethics” committee bans Blatter & Platini for 8 years as well as imposing a fine on both.

Compare what they have done to what 2 daft boys have done. Who deserves indefinite or life bans more?

I am not defending the 2 Dafties, but a sense of perspective must be applied. I also wonder if our previous fines have topped up a few pension pots.

Domestic footie corrupt, European footie corrupt and World footie corrupt. Sad.
