Shredded by Motherwell, rumour mill flight of fancy

251

For those who weren’t there yesterday, Motherwell could have had five in the second half. Twice they were clean through with Craig Gordon to beat, but couldn’t, and on another occasion Craig was stranded off his line during a penalty box scramble which could have ended either way.

By contrast, Celtic were anaemic. We struggled to open a packed Motherwell defence –Nir Bitton’s deflected goal was a consequence of Motherwell having so many players to in front of their keeper.

Motherwell did well, Scott McDonald in particular, but they were repeatedly given the Freedom of Celtic Park. It goes without saying but we need to tighten up. A new system is required, one which will protect the defence.  At the risk of sounding like the proverbial broken record, we need a defensive mid.  Anyone can open us up without someone standing guard.

You know the rumour mill is doing its thing when you receive 15 texts on the same subject. Ronny is not about to leave Celtic.

Last few hours to order from CQN Bookstore before Christmas, orders accepted until 16:00 Monday!

  1. My friends in Celtic / Paul 67,

” Ronny is not about to leave Celtic”

    ———————————–

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, is he about to get a vote of confidence.?

    HH.

  2. a light insanity on

Saw the teamline yesterday and remembered Lennon with his 2 wingers ploy that repeatedly failed. I have given Ronny time but don’t want to be wasting my time on a team making the same mistakes and not learning.

    Times up.

  3. WiTS, I actually see a lot good play from the team, I see attitudinal changes.

I also see resistance to change, but it’s Ronny’s job to handle that, for instance, KC wouldn’t have played for Celtic again if I were the manager.

I know he is very good, and very popular, but he undermined Ronny’s authority.

We made 28 chances yesterday? Sorry wasn’t there so didn’t see this game.

But that suggests we didn’t play as badly as suggested, results taint our view of a game.

I’ve watched us play poorly, score late on and win then listen to reviews of how well we did.

Other times we don’t get that late winner and listen to how bad we were.

    Neither view I accurate.

  4. Sometimes it is difficult to accept reality.

But when its not working, it is better to face up to it.

I don’t blame RD, he has been thrown right in at the deep end.

PL is responsible for Celtic’s decline in the last few years, RD is only a symptom of PL’s clueless approach to football.

The board need to be held responsible for failure….that’s where the buck should stop.

We should be winning this league easily considering the resources at our disposal in comparison to our opponents.

RD will sooner or later be the fall guy, while PL hides.

We need real change….not more of the same guff.

    HH

Just back from a motherwell love in

We got a europa league doing from a team at the bottom of our league

  6. Marrakesh Express on

I remember going to a game v Dundee, a wet winter’s day 84 at CP. I paid £2.50 at the gate to watch McGrain, Aikten, Mc Stay, McClair and Judas win 5-0.

    Crowd 15k

How many would have paid £25 yesterday at the gate, if there was a hardcore 7k season books, like in 84?

  7. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

We have been uninspired and unproductive in some of our home games this season and as I posted yesterday, I am starting to doubt Ronny and his inability to counter the opposition’s tactics. It appears we are up against tactics which the teams dont use in other games. Other teams know areas of our play which we need to improve on and now know to stick players behind the ball, and we struggle. Also, they know the ref will be lenient with them.

I watched the highlights of the Killie v Aberdeen game on the BBC website. Killie defended doggedly against our inept efforts a few weeks back but going by the above, they were all over the place yesterday . The exiled tim’s views on us being referreed differently are valid. Madden has reffed our last two home league games and in each, Killie and Motherwell players were given a lot of leeway by him. Yesterday, big Mick’s tackle on Commons was possibly a red card but no card was shown. Nir Bitton was booked for a foul not as bad as the one commited on Kris plus McDonald conceded at least five fouls yesterday , one a hand ball, no yellow card.

We should be able to deal with the tactics used by other teams and the usual mibbery but with our team’s limitations , its more difficult than it should be.

The last time I feel there was great unity and connection between players, management and support was in Neil’s first full season, 2010/11. The apalling treatment Neil and his family had to deal with, the Dougie Dougie shambles and having a better team, was a great unifier (is there such a word) . We were up against it and we stuck together to deal with it. Unfortunately,

the past two to three seasons, the momentum built up, has gradually died off.

  8. so we,re gonna be stubborn and plod on with a managerial team who are clearly not up to the job ?? Get a grip Celtic this is just madness now

  9. The same whiny monikers got their hopes up.

‘I told you so’ after they’ve stolen internet coverage of Celtics latest defeat.

    Oh Diddums…………….. for the Haters

  10. Doc,

I wouldn’t either, although it would depend on the offer. Was intrigued by Paul 67’s statement. I thought it’s slightly ambiguous, rather than stating that Ronny will remain Celtic’s manager.

Possibly I’m looking too much into a play on words.

    Hail, Hail.

  11. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

“At the risk of sounding like the proverbial broken record, we need a defensive mid.”

    ———-

    Spot on, Paul.

Thought the rumours were wide of the mark, but good to hear it from your good self.

  12. Doc

As someone who actually was there yesterday your talk of 28 chances is pure baloney!

Our goal was a deflection and the only other effort of note I recall was header from a corner that was blocked!

The other 26 I must have somehow missed!

We are pedestrian in the extreme, takin an age to get the ball forward which means that our opponents are normally always back in their defensive shape.

Whoever thought that CC was the answer must be on glue or something stronger. He is slower than Frank Munro – who was at least a CFC guy and tried his best! His attitude off the park also leaves a lot to be desired and seems at odds with RDs standards!

    HH

  13. GreenPinta, I didn’t see that, well spotted.

Hmmmmm, but I doubt Paul67 meant anything other than Ronny’s job isn’t in question.

  14. Dallas

You were at the game yesterday, when did we ever have this God given right to win, there are people saying this is the worst Celtic team in decades, am afraid, as you know even I can remember terrible teams not even close to the team at the top of the league and still chasing a treble, sometimes some fans are actually happy about being unhappy……

Somebody posted earlier about Lustig (Swedish international right back) not getting cover against Motherwells winger…. his man ? I am not Lustigs biggest fan but for me he is as much of a captain as our Christmas tree, although our Christmas tree might have more heart than the Swedish international full back

  15. What is the Stars on 20th December 2015 9:35 pm

Won’t be long now thank god

    ……………………………………………………….

    Superb :-)

  16. CroppyBhoy, as I said, I couldn’t make yesterday’s game, and only regurgitated what I read.

And do remember hearing about another Bitton shot rebounding from the keeper?

Doesn’t really detract from my overall point I don’t think.

And do accept we have poor games, said as much tonight already.

Getting the ball forward quickly doesn’t seem to be a huge requirement for most teams in today’s game. Retaining possession seems to be the pre-requisite, for many more managers than Ronny.

  17. Silver City 1888 on

Are we just missing Scott? I have a rather poor understanding of the game. I have no idea what he does right. We just seem to win more when he plays.

  18. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

Well – that article read a lot like Lawwell sounds

  19. I suppose Ronny is a manargerial kinda Marmite, love him or hate him.

I am in the love him camp, I can see what he is trying to do, and yes he will make many many mistakes along the way, tis no easy with sub standard players, but he will get there imo.

I recall many times on here when Lenny was the coach, the same pish when we didn’t win, the same posts about the negative football, the sideways passing, struggling to break teams down, but cos Lenny was one of our own, he was afforded the time.

RD is trying to revamp the whole footballing side, that take time.

When it clicks we play superb football, granted it doesn’t click as often as we want, but it’s the nature of the game, even the best can’t do it every time, and we do it more often than not.

The media are stirring the shit and so many are buying into it.

  20. Ronny says we need to move the ball quicker, I’ve heard him say this publicly before, we are not moving it quickly and take an eternity to mover forward, I’m hearing you Ronny…. !

    Are the players listening….

    Ayrshire is Green and White

  21. Deila has failed.

Support has had enough. Lawwell is handcuffed to the failure as his appointment.

Defeat at Tynecastle or Dundee or the next pub team will show the absurdity of this appointment.

Of course CQN follow instructions and print the message passed without comment. Thankfully the Celtic fans are not so gullible …or dependent on being spoon fed.

Delia is not improving the Team or players and his euro record is a joke. I spoke to a few Irish Celtic fans in London this week and to a man want change.

Of course we can continue with Ronny and watch the crowds hit the 20k mark and no CL qualification.

Lawwell has screwed this up big time.

  22. GFTB

I think you have me very wrong,

I have been in the RD camp from day one, and am one of the few who are still in his camp.

You obviously don’t read what I post, your choice.
