Smell of blood on the brown brogues

383

Read this morning that the Tynecastle pitch is 19-years-old.  Celtic’s is less than three-years-old.  Hearts have responded quickly to criticisms of their surface and will have a new pitch laid before the end of the month.  Having a top quality football pitch in Scotland isn’t a cheap business.  Celtic pay £500k per year in running, maintenance and depreciation costs for the sunlamp system which keeps the grass as alive as it is.  On top of that there’s costs for ground staff, under-soil heating and various other equipment.

And more at Lennoxtown, of course.  You wouldn’t believe the costs involved in running a football operation at a club with facilities the size of Celtic Park and Lennoxtown.  Modern football in massive stadiums isn’t something you can carry out on a shoestring.

On the Newco debacle at Dundee yesterday; this wouldn’t have happened under Mike Ashely’s watch, whether you regard that particular scenario as malevolent or benevolent. With an active link to Ashley, Newco would benefit from professionalism in the boardroom and better players in the dressing room.  What we’re now enjoying is 100% the work of Dave King, who during his electioneering phase promised so much.

Instead of an Ashley appointed CEO, manager and selection of players from Newcastle’s secondary squad, they’ve sacked their manager and given the guy who put the cones out for the youth team responsibility to finish above Aberdeen. The upshot of this is that the players they need to dig them out of this mess – like Kenny Miller who is not being offered a new contract – know that the decks will be cleared for the new manager.  This is a perfect way to demotivate a squad.

If Celtic (or Aberdeen) win the Scottish Cup, the top four Premiership places qualify for Europe, which would be reassuring for Newco, were it not for St Johnstone, who sit six points adrift from them. But unlike Newco, St Johnstone only have to play Celtic one more time this season.  Saints manager Tommy Wright will smell blood on the brown brogues.  Don’t bet against him.

The message below is from Vmham, who is one of the brave souls cycling from Celtic Park to Lisbon in May.  Please get involved with this magnificent project if you can, there is more information on the MyDonate page linked below:

“CQN’ers, as you may know I’ve been training most of last year for an epic cycle from Celtic park  to Estadio Nacional in Lisbon 25th May 2017.  We wanted to mark the 50th anniversary of the “first British team” to win the European cup, Celtic done it in style with a team whose 11 players were born within a 30ml radius of Celtic park.  As a CQN’er I was involved in the bringing home Kano campaign way back and have contributed financially to support CQN’s website and still do. If anyone would like to sponsor me you can by clicking here on MyDonate page, thanks folks and see you at the party in Lisbon :>)

There was a sushi restaurant run by a wee Jap guy in the middle of nowhere.

He started off working 7 days a week, all hours. But his skill and food took off.

He only opens 2 days a week now….for lunch.

Good wee story and yes, Taz does look like Scotland.

    Glad you enjoyed your trip.

It obviously works in reverse too, but my concern is that with all the stories, why are they taking so long to die?

So how many points need to be dropped for Celtic to win the title on the 12th March ?

  6. CANAMALAR

Aberdeen we need to lose 2 and draw 1 of their next three games (Ross Co and Motherwell home and Accies away)

  7. It seems that John James was correct at the time of posting that the monies were outstanding. Various sources are saying the money was paid today.

However I’m not convinced there is much of a story here. JJ says the payment was 5 days late. Given that the match was 8 days ago i assume he meant calendar days and not business days as even Stupid FC wouldn’t have been expected to make the payment last Monday. So we can assume it’s two or three working days late at worst, and that’s if the payment was due last week when he says it was.

I’m not familiar with how long it normally takes to process a payment to an away team for a cup tie, but one working week doesn’t seem that long. Ultimately if they are struggling to get £150k together they’ll be in admin before the end of this month. I don’t think that’s likely but here’s hoping.

Well, the last club to die in Scotland had loads of stories surrounding them for a few years before they finally went into administration and subsequently liquidation, so don’t ask me!

I share your frustration. I want the farce of the Big Lie underpinning Scottish football to end, not that Sevco going the same way as the club they pretend to be is any guarantee of that.

    Mark 3??

Hopefully there would be a bit more resistance this time to such nonsense, especially from ourselves.

Ps this goes against promises and assurances which they’d already made regarding passing on personal details of Celtic supporters to the authorities.

I’m off to bed but I’ll leave you to deal with that first J.

    2. Make sure the obliteration of the huns means that. i.e. no tribute act. Totally gone as in obliterated. Dead. Is no more. Not even Norwegian Blue remnants. Nothing.

    3. Take it from there.

Otherwise forget it and hope Celtic can move to EPL or Portugal or St. Kilda and let the flesh eating disorder reach its ultimate conclusion.

Were the Celtic Board relying on legal advice to take the action YOU CLAIM that they did ?

Do the Celtic Board have a legal duty to pass on the information YOU CLAIM that they did ?

Could the Celtic Board themselves be prosecuted for failing to assist the police in the pursuit of the arrest of subjects under investigation ?

Do the Celtic Board have reasonably efficient legal advisers to ensure that they remain within the letter of the law and that they themselves are not dragged through the Court system ?

Do the Celtic Board heed the advice given by their legal team or do their lawyers have fools for clients ?

Finally, what confidence do you have that the Scottish legal system acts without fear of favour ?

    None ? Well neither do I .

Saw a wee post earlier about how it was a waste of time to write or communicate in any way with JPT.

Well, that is a matter of opinion in any given circumstance.

JPT is an employee or a corporate vehicle. He fulfils his role as best he can and in a way that I don’t think UEFA intended. I think they envisaged a department rather than just one person.

Anyway, the point is that like many other Celtic employees I would cross the road to share a pint with the man on an individual basis and I would happily pay for the drinks.

JP is a good guy and, in my opinion, there is no doubting that.

Even if it were true why attack their own “customers”?

Res 12 moves. It doesn’t sit and fester. It may move at a snail’s pace at times but it is never static. Events elsewhere ensure that.

One of the reasons for the chat in Lisbon, or elsewhere, is to explore and discuss that in a, how can i put it, a relaxed and, to be frank, devil may care atmosphere.

Celtic are sometimes afraid of their own shadow. Corporeally they sometimes need a torch to show them the right seat in the cinema so they won’t be afraid of the dark.

The SFA are a different beast.

The position might be best some up here.
