You want to know the real social cost of Scottish football’s exclusion from the league structure England and Wales share? It’s the lack of pitches, nets, strips, balls and coaching certifications that the £1bn bounty, promised by the Barclay’s Premier League last night to the grassroots game.
£1bn to the grassroots is a huge sum. It dwarfs what taxpayers can afford and will provide a series of benefits our kids and amateur players are denied.
If we’re part of the UK, we should be part of the UK’s commercial opportunities. Every youth team in the land are excluded because of the actions of a cartel.
What are the SFA doing about it? Nothing. Their plans don’t seem to require world-class youth facilities.

Celtic fans could be set for panic after new star man Nir Bitton left the Israel international camp to get an x-ray on his foot at hospital.
The Hoops midfielder was just a 60th-minute substitute as the Israelis lost 3-0 to a Gareth Bale-inspired Wales team last night.
It’s a dent on their Euro 2016 qualifying bid after they had won all of their opening three games in the group.
But it’s not as big a dent as it could be on Celtic’s treble chances after Bitton played himself into the hearts of the Hoops support with some fine performances over the past six months.
According to freelance political sports journalist Raphael Gellar, the midfielder has been sent for an x-ray on the foot he injured late on in the defeat to Wales.
He tweeted:
If Bitton is ruled out for a long period, it could mean him missing Celtic’s run-in.
Ronny Deila’s men have already won the League Cup and, with a lead at the top of the Premiership and Scottish Cup semi-final place, have their sights firmly set on picking up all three domestic trophies.
