I remember some disparaging comment from sections of the Scottish sporting media regarding Mikael Lustig’s performances for Sweden at Euro 2012. Mikael had only recently joined Celtic and was still finding his feet in Scotland. In short, we didn’t have enough information to make an informed judgement before the Euros. We do now.
His energy levels, speed, height, crossing and general levels of performance has been remarkably high and consistent. Sweden handed him the job of subduing one of the world’s top three players at their recent World Cup qualifier in Portugal, Ronaldo was shackled, scoring only when he left Mikael’s area of the field.
There is a notion that this type of player, who can perform solidly at Champions League and international level, but who we can convince to renew his contract, is more important than the more stellar performers, who have an eye on the exit door.
Adam Matthews timely return from injury will compensate for Mikael’s absence as he recuperates post-op, but we’ve never looked as effective on the right since both of them were fully fit.
The reaction to yesterday’s AGM at Ibrox has been surprising, mostly as it surprised anyone. The outcome has been a forgone conclusion for weeks (if not months), while the realisation of what the future is going to look like for Newco has finally dawned on a few.
A generation brought up to believe in sugar daddies will have to learn: expenditure must equal or be less than income over any given business cycle.
In this respect, I cannot figure why fans are so unhappy with the Newco board, whose central failing has been to spend far too much money on wages for a manager and players. From what I hear, no one at the AGM demanded football budget is cut to an appropriate level.
As their new chairman said, costs will be cut; doing so is a financial imperative. The current Rangers might play in the same colours as its liquidated predecessor, but things will never – eeeeeeeever – be the same again.
This afternoon is the final pre-Christmas posting time if you want your CQN Annual before the day:

Why do you ignore fact ?
The Yes campaign is for independence for Scotland:
Why do you align yourself with unionists and loyalists?
Are you afraid your beloved Tory Labour of Westminster will be chucked out?
Are you just afraid?
!!Bada Bing!! @21.42 hrs.
Totally agree with your sentiments regarding Sammi.
The abuse from some supporters, the abuse on the park, yet he just gets on with it without complaint. He has proved to be more of a Celtic man than some we both could mention. He has still work to do at Parkhead.
Pass and move will bring us success most of the time in Scotland. In Europe ?
The unexpected and the unorthodox is the only way against some teams in Europe and in this respect Sammi can still be the man.
Also agree with your fitness comments in Amsterdam ( KC also )

How can you suggest that the independence debate is not directly relevant to the Celtic support, the vast majority of whom live in Scotland.
Don’t like the SNP? I can all but guarantee they’ll stay in power longer in a United Kingdom. Especially if the Tories remain in power at Westminster.

Good job he never made any comments on Scottish independence.
I’m now definitely a Yes. I cannot support a campaign that has been about nothing but fear. Not one positive thing to say about the Union.

Neil is not above criticism, but he does not deserve grief. Was it not Neil who took the SPL Trophy and placed it in front of the Green Brigade just after winning it?

And this may, or may not be of interest but several people I know that were strongly No precisely because of the negative campaign.

I don’t know about it being a west of scotland thing.
My nephew has been caught up with the act, he is a daft wee boy from Falkirk, westish I suppose, got a barring order from the polis, for baring his arse at Hamilton fans, no fighting, no singing offensive songs, no banners, no vandalism, baring his arse, went back to a game at Brockville, got caught and did 2 months in Polmont for his troubles, he still goes to the games, doesn’t give a bollix, as daft as a brush so he is.

I posted about 6 months ago that Ledley was playing well within himself, since the hun died.Passes the ball 5 yards square or back rather than drive forward.I think his game plan has always been another Bosman.
_______________
Spot on, he seemed to look for the easy pass of late. i.e. Look for Charlie Mulgrew and let him make the forward pass.
I would prefer more creativity from our midfield, if it means joe’s off, so be it, as long as his wage is used to replenish.
Celtic Mac
Exactly mate.. Don’t get me wrong some of his decisions and team selections, tactics, etc we all have at some stage questioned them. But the stick he was gettin this past few weeks was about all the off field issues that’s being goin on and something he has absolutely no control over!

It’s been interesting following some of the Scottish independence debate from afar.
The position of the opponents does appear to be based on fear like you say. I’m guessing Labour are terrified of never having power in Westminster again, while the Tories are doing what comes natural to them – scaring the public on what may happen. A bit like the Scottish media issuing reports of Armageddon should the Huns go into liquidation and the Tribute Act not be allowed a fast-track to the top flight. We all know what happened with those predictions.
On the other side of the debate, there appears to be optimistic promises which are unlikely to ever see the light of day. Only about another 10 months to go, I’m sure it will get ugly real soon.
Any CQN predictors who don’t have their predictions in, get them in soon.

It’s a Falkirk kind of thing.
Kojo and Kayal,
I have nothing against the guy Johannsson, but to compare 10 goals in 16 starts to Alfies ,55 goals in 47 starts is just ridiculous. You are going for the cheaper option again.PL will be proud of you.

Ok I have resisted until now but I will add my one and only comment to the YES/NO debate. I have worked in Sweden this year and I will be working in Spain, France, Germany and a lot in England next year. The general attitude among Europe to Scotland is nobody gives a —-. The general attitude in England is nobody gives a —-. The attitude I found in Sweden was, I don’t get it we are European, I agree with that and the rest of Europe do not care. The banks are ruling the world like they have always done and if you think an independent Scotland will make the slightest bit of difference to you and your family then you need to seek help. Look at the banks in Scotland and how they have performed recently, bit shabby I would say. If Scotland do (gain) independence they will be a target just like Ireland.
Just sick to death of @hole politicians and greedy banksters.
