SPFL have no choice but to act on confidentiality breaches

418

Former SPL chief exec Roger Mitchell is fond of saying his old job had all the responsibility and none of the power, as ultimate control of the League lies with the clubs.  Neil Doncaster has lived through a period of his life he will never forget, but after issuing a comprehensive rebuttal to the ‘dossier’ yesterday, he may reflect that his powerbase has been significantly enhanced by the traumas.

The tone of the SPFL’s response, signed by nine of the 10 directors, is unlike anything I have read before from a comparable body; “baseless, damaging and self-serving attacks”, they did not miss the target and hit the wall.

With no charge outstanding, votes against the League will amount to little more than historical allegiances with the protagonists.  They will do well to get 25% support, instead of the 75% required for success.

I commented on Thursday that the phrase “serious breach of fiduciary duties” was likely to feature in news reports soon.  Instead, the League opted for “gross breaches of confidentiality” for distributing confidential parts of their Sky TV contract in the dossier appendix.

The board have no choice but to act in order to protect their broadcast contracts from breach.  The irony of trying to claim the League is jeopardising a contract by actively jeopardising that same contract is off the scale and indicates the levels at which we are operating at.

    Thank you.

I know, I’m, now, in a small minority, the young team look at me with disdain when I’m telling them they’re singing the wrong words.

I’ve always felt Jimmy should be remembered in song, being a player and manager.

Paul deserves his own song, rather than one stolen from his great uncle.

It does both of them a disservice.

I do have at least a couple of Celtic tour guides telling people the real lyrics. :-)

  6. THEBHOTFROMU.N.C.L.E,

That 4-4 draw with Third Lanark, was that the one that the teams were applauded off the park at full time? It would have been about 1959, if I’m not mistaken.

  8. While riding my Harley, I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and landed in a ditch, severely banging my head.

Dazed and confused I crawled out of the ditch to the edge of the road when a shiny new convertible pulled up with a very beautiful woman who asked, “Are you okay?

As I looked up, I noticed she was wearing a low-cut blouse with a cleavage to die for.

“I’m okay I think.” I replied as I pulled myself up to the side of the car to get a closer look.

She said, “Get in and I’ll take you home, so I can clean and bandage that nasty scrape on your head.”

“That’s nice of you,” I answered, “But I don’t think my wife will like me doing that!”

“Oh, come now, I’m a nurse,” she insisted. “I need to see if you have any more scrapes and then treat them properly.”

Well, she was really pretty and very persuasive. Being sort of shaken and weak, I agreed, but repeated, “I’m sure my wife won’t like this.”

We arrived at her place which was just few miles away and, after a couple of cold beers and the bandaging, I thanked her and said, “I feel a lot better, but I know my wife is going to be really upset so I’d better go now.”

Don’t be silly!” she said with a smile. “Stay for a while. She won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?”

“My guess is that she’s still in the ditch.”

  10. I think that game must have been about 1960, as the players are wearing numbers on their shorts. I think that practice only started with a preseason friendly against Sparta Rotterdam about then.

  25. The reconstruction task force was headed by Budge and Les Gray. It was arranged and organised by the clubs themselves with the SPFL at arms length. Today Tom English and colleagues lambasted the SPFL Board for the breakdown in reconstruction talks. Budge got a pass because she swings the right way. English was particularly vociferous on this and the Patrick Thistle statement, which by the way is rambling mess which rants at anything and everyone, laying the blame at the SPFL again. You can tell he is deliberately applying as much pressure as he can with objectivity and impartiality out of the window. He is being worked from the back. Alex Rae last night was no better but expected. With hacks like these Scottish football has the mess it deserves.

I wonder just how will they react when we are rightly awarded the title, when Robertson is tossed off the SPFL board and when the realisation dawns that when football resumes, the gap between Celtic and the rest will stretch further.
