Templar of Doom

1242

I took a nasty Pavlovian reaction today when I heard the radio announce “Derby day” before realising the presenter was talking about the actual Derby.  The last thing anyone planning a night out in Glasgow is the ‘Glasgow derby’, as it was known in its final few years.

As anyone walking the streets of Glasgow and beyond in peace tonight will testify, we don’t want it or miss it.  I prefer my football, like my streets, without this nonsense.

Knights Templar sequestrated?  Blame those “enemies”.  George Peat, Campbell Ogilvie and Lex Gold forced through his appointment as SFA chief executive, despite him not meeting selection criteria.  As every wise footballer knows, know your level.

The magnificent framed Lionel Messi top we are auctioning for 1254125 has less than two days to run, keep an eye on it here.

Copies of Willie Wallace’ autobiography, Heart of a Lion, have been flying off the shelf.  The mail order fulfilment centre will have stock replenished on Monday after running out.  Order your copy below – still time for Father’s Day.

If they are the same club why are they not “still” in the SPL?

Surely a change of ownership doesn’t require that a club has to leave the SPL and start again in Division 3?

If so, why did this not happen the previous year when ownership changed from Murray to Whyte?

First heard it back in 76 ( 14-15 years of age). I’d heard Blood on the Tracks and thought it was okay. I was pointed in the direction of the earlier stuff by elder, wiser folk to understand why he might just be better than Mud!

  3. The ASA statement made a big thing about Rangers being recognised on UEFA’s website with this sentence….

“They further pointed out that the websites of the SPL, the SFA and UEFA all confirmed that RFC had been in existence for 140 years by detailing all honours that the club had won since its formation in 1872.”

See this Celtic malarkey, nothing short of amazing in the auld days and soon we’ll return to the top of Europe.

  8. The more the years go on , the magnitude of what we achieved in 67 grows.

The first Northern European team to win the European Cup.

The first team to win a treble in that year.

The only team to win all domestic trophies and the European Cup ever.

Not a bad septet. Said it last weekend I appreciate the significance (and magnificence ) of what we achieved all those years ago more each year.

  11. GoogyBhoy, not only the treble, we won the domestic Treble and the European Cup, Man U’s treble was the League, European Cup and the FA Cup, they missed out on the League Cup.

    Not sure about the others.

We won every tournament we entered in season 1966-67, that was unique at the time, I believe still is, will stand corrected if I’m wrong.

Caveat, do all countries have a league Cup?

  12. Spent a great afternoon with some older

    supporters recalling some great stories

    of Bobby and Bertie.

    The greatest midfield combo ever.

Neither of whom were natural midfield players

until the great Jock came along.

  13. gordon64

I think Big Jock realised they were natural midfielders. Perfect pairing

Looking good for Real Sociedad to get into the Champions League in fourth place.

    They’re 0-1 up on Deportivo.

Seville were 0-1 down to Valencia but equalised a couple of minutes ago. And now Negredo has just scored a penalty for Seville and it’s 2-1. So La Real will pip Valencia for the final CL place.

At the bottom, things are on a knife edge. Only one team in the bottom four can survive, but they can all do it.

The four teams are Mallorca, Zaragoza (Glenn Loovens), Deportivo La Coruña and Celta de Vigo.

At the moment, Celta are staying up. Nearlt half time in all the games. Very exciting.

  15. Jimbo67

    Agree.

Both were great passers with an attacking instinct,

limitless energy and were fearless in the tackle.

    That was my last point.

The only team to win all domestic trophies and the European Cup ever.

The reason why the magnitude of it all unfolds over the years is that we were the first in so many ways.

Everyone else just joins OUR club.

Players all from 40 mile radius.

  19. Celtic have succeeded in spite

of the SFA who have done nothing but

hinder us and put obstacles in our way

    throughout our history.

You would almost think that the SFA were not

    proud of Celtic’s achievements.

16 caps between them. Shome mishtake shurely? If I could relive one day of my life it would be one of the games I saw them playing together. 5-0 v Hearts in Feb 69 was one of them that summed up not just that pairing but every other Saturday of my young life.
