I don’t know what the commercial value of our summer games against Barcelona, Leicester City and Inter Milan are, but those three games are sure to dwarf the earnings we make from domestic media and prize money for the whole of next season.
TV rights for English Premier League football from next season will average just above £7m per game, that’s for each of the 10 games on the weekly card – Sweet Georgia Brown! The actual value of these varies enormously: Watford v Bournemouth has practically no commercial value, all the real value is added by games between big clubs – even the likes of Newcastle, who are a poor team, but one which many colours of football fans still want to watch.
In a different environment, TV rights for Celtic games would be north of that £7m per game figure (the increased exposure would also geometrically improve commercial rights values). Think what we could do with that kind of money…….. more paper towels in the gents, maybe, the possibilities are limitless!
Our position is far from unique, there are a dozen or so European teams of similar size who have been marginalised from what was once a meritocratic game, so change must (always) remain on our agenda. But for now, we have to make what we can from our role as the Celtic Globetrotters.

The board like everyone and every organisation in the world can please some the people some of the time – not even God can please all of the people all of the time.
The Great Scurry doesn’t please all of the squirrels all of the time, even in times of nut abundance.
One good thing is the money we will make and the added exposure.
For sure it will be the only money we will make if RD is still our manager for next seasons assault on the European scene.
I think it’s great that we have been invited into this International Champions Cup. It confirms the pull that Celtic still has across the globe. I also love the fact that the opening game is at Celtic Park. Then there’s a bunch of other games to follow, the pick of which must be Celtic v Barcelona in Dublin. The whole event finishes with Celtic playing Inter Milan, venue to be confirmed.
It’s almost as if the Cup has be built around us.
Hail Hail
DD the difference now is we know what our board have been doing behind our back. They need removed. Maybe then we can get our soul back.
Up for a beer mate. No game though as I am not going back until they are removed.

I’m sure that many of you read of the incident recently, where there was a gangland shooting at the Regency Hotel in Dublin, a respectable and popular hotel, ten minutes from town.
This occurred during a boxing weigh in.
The hotel’s business suffered as a consequence of this incident through no fault of their own.
Therefore, if anyone is considering coming to Dublin, it might be a good time to get a good deal in what must now be regarded as the safest venue in town.
========================
TTT,
I booked the Regency months ago – £280 for 4 nights.
Just checked and it’s £455 for same.
Some deal eh :-)
BTW stayed there before, excellent hotel.

GEORDIEMUNRO@1:42 – I wonder if we were all sitting on the ‘back of the bus’ that Ronny was accused of throwing Boyata under in Hamilton – some actually said that it was Lawwell who carried out the deed, with help from Lord Livingston…. John Reid was apparently driving with Dermot playing ‘Blakie’ – “get that bus out of here Bankier”

Ok Mr Intransigence, beer it is. :-)
Give me a shout when you’re about.

CALTONTONGUES
They should have booked you as security, mate.
See you and J on Saturday.
BMCUW,
J ain’t going, hates Dublin, but wants to go to Barca game, wummin eh?
How many of the participants, Celtic included, will be fielding full strength teams in what no matter how they are hyped are a series of admittedly well paid pre season friendlies?
Quonno,
Here is the article.

These people are indeed a lost tribe.
Árd Macha
Quonno,
Exactly. And even if teams do field full strength teams, how many players will be giving more than, say 70%??
Bring back the rubbidgly paid ‘pre-season’ friendlies against nobodies.

Setting off for Dublin this evening but will check the blog over the weekend to see if anyone can put my mind to rest that Resolution 12 will be considered by UEFA panel and not be considered invalid since not emanating from a club. I don’t wish to know any confidential tactics or approaches, simply that all reasonable step have been taken to ensure that referral meets all regulatory requirements.
Sorry to be a blog bore on this issue but tend to be a “cover all angles” type. Hope everyone going to BAC enjoyed their stay. HH
Forget the paper towels…. What we need is Bovril temprature control mechanism in every food outlet at Celtic Park
Anyway I see it’s now cheaper for a fortnight in the Maldives in August than it is for a weekend in Dublin
The doom profits al over the pre season friendlies, wow there’s a surprise eh?
Honestly I’v never met so many torn face supporters in all my life, I have a great time supporting Celtic, you lot on the other hand?
I’d find another sport or club, your clearly not happy being a Celtic supporter, get a life ffs.
Mon the hoops lurking Huns GIRFUYs
My friends in Celtic,
No Grey area for me, I like Squirrels. It must be said however that although they are extremely trusting and very intelligent they still tend to run in erratic paths.
Hmmmmmmmmm
Squirrelcliquecsc.
Good stuff this wee trip, it makes sure our stock is high. On top of that the US audiences will see a brilliant Celtic F C .
Remember, no publicity is bad as long as they spell your name right, Clark Grable said that!!!
Did you hear about the dyslexic, agnostic insomniac, he lay awake at night wondering if there was a dog.
KINGLuBO
Will PL ensure the huns get a cut of the TV money from the friendlies?
The upcoming game v inter Milan on the 13th of August is the same day as the World Pipe Band championships in Glasgow.
Oh look…a skirl.

Yes. It’s in the overall SPFL contracts regarding media rights.
BMCUWPs,
You have mail.

If it was soley on fan base that Celtic have been invited to play Barca in Dublin surely Liverpool would have been a better economic alternative
If I remember correctly the last time the Celtic played in the Aviva the Liverpool support outnumbered the Celtic support by about 3 to 1
There again your not going to sell out all your hotel rooms if the majority of fans attending already live in the city
Ps I imagine the flights from Barcelona to Dublin have increased tenfold
Res 12 mandate posted first class and email sent.
£7m per game? We could have a team full of Boerigters in a month! Bangurra! Rasmussen! Lassad! Pukki! Balde! A front 6 paid for in a fortnight!
It’s not the size of the ship, it’s the motion of the ocean.
First girlfriend told me that. Still haven’t worked it out.
Didn’t know Albert Kidd was actually a Celtic man. Of course, by default he is anyway, but nice to hear he always has been one of us :)
Wonder if the GB may have a little reminder for the Jambos before the end of the season?
Still to play them twice before the end of the season…
HH
I hope before celtic take on barca , Milan , and leicester , they are much improved from the team I watched on Saturday . And for the CL qualifiers also , otherwise it will be a another downward step

Yes. It’s in the overall SPFL contracts regarding media rights.
I had actually forgotten about that nonsensical clause, but i think you got my drift anyway….HH
posted yesterday on our invitation to the then prestigious Coronation Cup which at the time was likened to the Exhibition Trophy which as you all know we won.
Now although I was around at the time, I was in Primary 1, I have no recollection of this event although I do recall the excitement of the “Matthews Final” and Kiwi Hillary conquering Everest, to be fair though Sherpa Tiger Tensing was 1st to the summit but let’s not let a Nepalese mountaineer get in the way of a Commonwealth feat in her coronation year.
We were invited primarily as a result of our extraordinary fan base. I recall discussing this with my da, my uncle and later on my father-in-law, all great Celtic mhen, and they admitted to being surprised at our inclusion coming 5 years after we allegedly avoided relegation.
None of them mentioned being scared of the competition or embarrassed that the Celtic board were putting money before pride in accepting the invitation. No we just signed Smiler and got down tae wining the dammed thing.
That’s the Celtic way and still is, we are a major World team as is evidenced by the sight of hoops in any town, city and country. Let’s not listen tae the bigots decrying us at every turn round just because their fans are an embarrassment tae queen and crown and the country and are DEID.
Tontine
Haha. Well said in your distinctive style.

Either I’m about to get whooshed or something I thought was totally ridiculous and that I’d made up is actually true.
RESOLUTION 12
If the approach to UEFA is rejected because it is not proposed by the club but submitted on behalf of shareholders perhaps we should be thinking of alternatives and I trust that the CQN people who have unstintingly given of their time and expertise have considered such.
In the meantime I hope that there is a deluge of mandates. All power to the elbows of the proponents. HH

Yes, but that’s for competition revenues not anything derived from a televised friendly. (I hope).
http://www.celticfc.net/news/10237 Ticket info for SC Semi final – So the Home Ticket Scheme only counts if you’ve went to away games? Confused……
Bada Bing,
I may not qualify and don’t want to go but I think that that is probably the best way to distribute tickets for that game.
