The Celtic oxygen

604

In a month full of events which resonate with the spirit which inspired those who formed Celtic Football Club, last night’s Wee Oscar 4 Life race night at the Kerrydale Suite was as special as it gets.  Those who were there know they gathered as a community to help the family of Oscar Knox do whatever they can to help the four-year-old through his illnesses.

If you were there, you were magnificent.  Those who decided they would give their time and resources to organise the event are an inspiration to us all.  It was great to hear Bobby Petta talk about the Celtic support in glowing terms.  He has been back in Glasgow for a couple of years and is very much at home in Celtic.  Treble-winning-captain-Tom-Boyd and Frank McAvennie didn’t need to learn about the Celtic support, they were born into it.  Both were there to help and ensure the night was a success.

Performances of the night came from Oscar’s dad, Stephen, Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa and our very own Minx, who sounded like she had presented Children In Need for the last 20 years.  Lisa, who is heavily pregnant, inspired the room with an uncommon touch of humanity.

By late in the evening the total raised was over £25k.  Another simply stunning day in Paradise.

I’ve been offline for most of the last couple of days but have picked up on some of the issues surrounding the Green Brigade.  What I haven’t missed is a single minute of action at Celtic Park this season but I’ve not seen a single incident of crowd trouble or alarm.  This season our games could be ‘policed’ by stewards alone, so it is beyond curious as to why police have any interest in Celtic supporters at all.

Football operations the like of which have been reported are not the actions of officers on the ground, they are a political dictate from very high up the food chain.  There is neither justification nor plausible motivation for using our tax money in this way.

    Doc..,

    Gonnae no :o)

It’ll just look the the 20 min exodus that happens at every game has grown, it will be easily excused.

Me I’m no going, on this issue every time the GB boycott I will do the same.

This no just about football this is corporate bullying vilifying supporters must stop.

  2. Celtic First – the GB are just celtic supporters – with all due respect you clearly do not understand what is going on do you?

  3. Soul destroying news. GB ARE the support just now. In the short term I’ll be supporting their boycott. Guess it’s up to the club to clarify their position and actions.

  4. neganon2

Possibly, but would a mass walkout not have a greater visual effect.

If we don’t turn up the MSM will just scream Armageddon, if we walk out they would have to ask why, maybees?

I suppose the first question is, how many would do it, what % would we get?

Given that 20% or more already walk out after 75minutes.

All clubs or businesses would like their customers to give them as much money as possible with as little fuss as possible. Celtic Plc are no different and the board members are familiar with getting rid of those they see as trouble makers, shop stewards and the like in their companies and our football club is no different to them.

The fans must resist this sort of black-listing for no good reason other than perhaps the people in question having a different view to the board on such issues as the poppy/songs etc.

However if the board are acting in concert with the police in demonizing fans and groups such as the GB then we are part of a fascist club!

If the Govan Emerald CSC are correct who decides which people are persona non grata?

    Gruppenfuhrer Bankier?

  6. There was no advise suggesting boycott postponement.

There was advise, silence on Celtic forums until after final meetings with the police and the club.

Otherwise, in one week part of the supporters will blame the club , part of the supporters will blame police…and paradox, there will be supporters who will blame people who are at the top of Green Brigade.

You will be divided with no chance to be back to good days.

As I said, I sow how this happened at my Legia. Very, very similar scenaro.

  7. If the polis are falsely implicating CFC re the harassment of GB members then the board act

They cannot allow the polis to divide the support

One way or another the board will have to make their position clear….any failure to do so will lead to a negative influence being drawn

  8. a wee reminder from douglas fraser

That money will be used by liquidators to pay the cost of running the club while in administration, after which it goes to pay Duff and Phelps’ fee, and then to secured creditors. Craig Whyte may claim to have that priority status, but it’s open to legal dispute because of the way he secured it. The pot of money then meets any redundancy costs, and finally it’s shared between ordinary creditors. Shares, held by 26,000 Rangers fans, will be worthless.

cannot wait till i get my £10000 worth of sevco shares ;-))))))

The commitments was a fictional band playing 30 year old timeless classics. I prefer going to see a real band play those classics. Even if they dont know they are going to be classics yet and their record company is not happy with …like most classics actually.

  10. Doc – sorry but the MSM are irrelevant – they will criticise us regardless. Dont turn up unless the Board issue a statement. Simple really.

  11. Big Nan

Ive been through some bad times as a supporter, but the enemies of

our club were external and we stood together. If what the Green Brigade

are saying is true, our enemy is from within. That saddens me.

  12. Okay, my last post tonight.

I said: very similar scenario, with details.

One of the girls was arrested at 6:00 am because she changed the seat on previous day at the stadium.

Due to the Polish regulations the club must give all details of the supporter if they say that the supporter is guilty of the offence.

Reading the comments and I’m afraid there will be no Green Brigade support in months if not years.

  13. Support for the GB? A boycott won’t work. The tickets have already been paid for. How do we make a statement? Don’t spend any money on the extras – food, programmes, windfall. Support the team but show the board that we have power.

  14. NegAnon2

Leftclicktic – we are divided if our Board are allowing discrimination of this type.

After Tuesday we can address that, till then Neil and his young lions need us

  15. Just watching Dundee v Hibs on Sportscene, and that old stand still brings back bad memories from 1980 when they beat us 5-1, that score really hurt a young 12 year old that day.

Celtic First – the GB are just celtic supporters – with all due respect you clearly do not understand what is going on do you?

No respect required. I suspect that what is going on is that people who wish Celtic ill are sowing disunity. If this means I do not understand, fine. If people who only post on CQN when there is something negative to say, I will be glad to be enlightened.

  17. neganon2

I do disagree re-the MSM, they are irrelevant to us, but to many in Scotland they are not, and could be an influence, probably negatively, from the GB viewpoint.

If the Board want the fans to stick to a proscribed song book they should tell us.

If they tell us we can then have a debate, they will have to stop playing “Let the people sing” and start to play,”Let the People Sing What We Tell Them”

    Good luck with that.

  18. NatKnow - "We welcome the paper-chase..." on

Only 3 topical points to make:

Firstly, well done to all involved in the Race Night for Wee Oscar! Truly wonderful to see that our people still recognise the values that are worthwhile in life. A great turnout, a great cause and a great amount raised. Fantastic work.

Secondly, the targeted attention the GB are receiving is disgusting and is clearly intended to provoke in the hope of being able to “even-up” the stats as other posters have recognised. I’m sure these stats won;t be “lost”. Anyone else think that any information the police will quote will relate to number of arrests and cautions rather than actual prosecutions? Unlike the situation where the huns went under, the Celtic board cannot “take the 5th” on the basis that this is nothing to do with them. This is our family and these are our friends. So at the very least I expect the board to make a strong statement in support of the GB, but really would hope they fully recognise their responsibilities and make representations to the police and politicians to end this intimidation as soon as possible.

Thirdly, can everyone who is commenting on how their bag is packed for Portugal just…..gonnae no?

  19. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Michael,

I think they have chosen cup games, so no many tickets will have been bought yet.

  20. Zbyszek

You are spot on for the reasons you give- mixed messages coming out – but the mechanism for a joint approach simply does not exist.

This was one of the reasons I was so keen on a Membership Scheme, to enable such a strategy setting mechanism where issues are seen from all perspectives to be established.

It never got off the ground. Celtic were ready to give it a go but others were not and here we are again.

  21. UTLR

Guys like you are the reason i have always been a Celtic supporter.

Collective defiance in a country that does not want us.

If our board are in any way complicit then they have stood against the very ethos of being a Celtic supporter.

Your display against Barcelona was fantastic and everyone i showed it to in the USA was in awe.

I support the Green Brigade and the Celtic football team .

  22. Doc – it is all we can do.

Michael – its not about the money money money (there is a song in there somewhere) – I dont think any of us want to hurt the club financially. What we want to send is a strong message to the Board that those empty stands is what they will see next season if they dont show support to the support.

Celtic First – another lazy response – you arent paying attention are you. What is going on is a police state in Scotland ably supported by our Board – that make you happy does it?

  23. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

A few over-reactions on CQN tonight ……… People with an agenda can lie on twitter, and sometimes we are visited on CQN by bhun lurkers …… Careful, ghuys……. Let’s concentrate on CL and the liquidation of sevco for the moment ……… I’m sure the CSA will be more than capable of discussing the GB situation obo all Celtic fans………. Remember, the establishment will ‘divide and conquer’, given the opportunity …….. If you think our resistance is not now being challenged, you are wrong….!!!!

Good later evening my CQN friends

I would like you to join me in a couple of celebrations of life new and old tonight.

iPaddyMcCourt is proud to announce the birth of his first child and son. iPaddy mini was born this morning. Congrats to the new CQN hoopster and all I ask is that you bring him up in your own kind image (you know where I am coming from here)

Also to Vmhan, who lost his father this week. For those that don’t know, Vmhan was our bare footed runner for the Bringingmartinhome campaign. Always putting others first. I am proud to have met him many times and to call him a close friend, His father will be resting in peace looking down proudly on his son

  26. Doc – the MSM will always spin negatively – they dont matter to us and from what I am hearing some of the stories from the GB will eventually make international news (hopefully ahead of the vote on Scottish Independence). This is an international disgrace and the Strathclyde Police will get what is coming to them in the end – as will Salmond.

The story has only just begun to be told………..

  27. Of course no one should ever blindy believe what they read but these kind of stories haven’t been isolated incidents. You can’t deny there seems to be a totally over the top police prescence at games now.

Even at the Barca game last week folk were getting searched in the Jock Stein lower which couldn’t be further away from the GB, after the turnstiles. Is bringing in a plastic bottle of water really such an abhorrent crime worthy of a night in a cell?

I’d like to give the club the benefit of the doubt but its fair to say they weren’t very convincing when asked at the AGM about this.

If it’s true that the club have actively been giving out personal details to the police then you have to wonder if they actually want the stadium to be empty?

    Celtic should tread very carefully

The more light shone the more exposed the establishment will be.

That can only be a good thing.

I hope you’re right and these issues get international exposure.
