The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

Hi there mhate, cheers for taking time to reply, apologies as I dunno how to c&p yet on this new phone

Your view to is respected but a few wee points

I didnt mention the cheat.to me they died.(you did tho :-)

We are engaged with the 9minuters reincarnation at the moment u17 & u19.and a future fixture may happen/may not happen with 9minuters although I share your unhappiness with cheat handling it is with a club who were ‘accepted into’our league in 2012.all I would say is dont look at them for a comparable identity, even more so dont let there old hatred cast a cloud on anyrhin between you and Celtic

Re money talks and market forces will eventually decide….

Can I ask a few questions?

Do you think (if I persist with your thought)

Skytelli would have us in england without the 9minuters?-I would argue no they wont as their core business is viewing figures and Celtic alone are just another team to them, sky want their big box office match back and if that means selling hate murdoch/skytelli et al have previous.they will do it

Going to England would be amassive cultural change for Celtic hence my reasoning for euro leagues evolving and moving forward that way.

And anyway they dont want us cos the money men in the market (epl) said so and unless turkeys vote for christmas that mindset has not changed no matter how much ‘we hear’.

Let us look to new ways of growing maybe one would be to own our own media rights outright, just ours, and going about getting the income streams coming from rhe Internet. .well we do stand alone, lets give the Celtic fan around the world a service fit for the 21st century, invest now and those digital revenue streams dont stop

    Always in Celtic.

Am sure youll explain cheers :-)

    Agreed 100% mate.

I used to go on TOHG’s supporters bus when I was a wee bhoy – 1970’s/80’s.

The fholk in John’s pubs and on his buses were ‘top-class Tims’.

It was an absolute education being in their company.

One time during a SC game v’s Killie at CP, during a horrible season for us, Mr Stein’s last, I was attacked under the Jungle, walking through on my own and some ‘neds’ appeared from the other side of the wall and gave me a doing – took my scarf which was covered in badges from relatives fae abroad and, took the money out my pocket.

Anyway, I came out of the Jungle and went round to the ‘Rangers-end’ were some ghuys n ghirls were from the bus.

I was taken from the bus down to TOHG’s house and his lovely wife sorted me with some tea n biscuits till my dad came down in the car to take me up the road.

John Fallon and his wonderful family just like, Kris Commons and Lisa and their family, are only a handful of the blessed ‘angels’ associated with Celtic.

They should be the wind beneath ‘all’ of our wings.

Aye, even the ‘bored’ who, over the weekend have been shone in a different light for me.

A sage Tim was telling me over the weekend that there was a – dicussion about Celtic FC/PLC – on the radio on Friday – Radio Erin.

Apparently the gist of the discussion was that….

Celtic will be playing in the English Championship sooner than a lot of folk think.

Then, when Celtic make their way(hopefully) to the EPL – within 2 years Celtic will be the 2nd best supported team in the UK.

Then, probably in the next 5 years Celtic will become the 4th ‘richest’ club in WORLD football. Hmmmm?

Denis O’Brien has, they say….got himself 29% of the club and, DD only takes the minimum directors rate of pay.

It was also inferred that what could hasten Celtic’s exit from here could be the ‘collapse’ of the SKY-TV deal.

Lets wait n see if one of the blogs ‘techno-dudes’ can get a link to the – Radio Erin discussion about the future of Celtic – that will be more clear than anything that I could type.

    So lets wait and see.

  16. A little info on Ricky Sbragia:

“He retired from playing in 1987 and commenced his coaching career with York as youth-team coach and obtained his Football Association coaching badge in May 1990.[2] He led the youth team to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the 1992–93 season.[2] He took over as youth-team coach at Sunderland in 1994 and was later promoted to reserve team coach.[6] He moved to Manchester United as reserve team coach on 20 November 2002,[7] where he built up a successful reserve side, nurturing the fledgling talents of Kieran Richardson and Darren Fletcher, amongst others. He was appointed as first-team coach of Bolton Wanderers on 10 October 2005.[8] After the departure of Sam Allardyce from Bolton on 29 April 2007, Sammy Lee was appointed as manager of Bolton, with Sbragia retaining his position as first-team coach alongside Jimmy Phillips and Gary Speed.[9]

Sbragia rejoined Sunderland’s coaching staff in November 2007,[10] and was appointed as caretaker manager following the departure of Roy Keane on 4 December 2008.[11] He took charge of the team for their match against Manchester United, which was lost 1–0.[12] This was followed up with a 4–0 victory over West Bromwich Albion and a 4–1 win at Hull City, although Sbragia remained coy over the possibility of taking over permanently.[13] He was appointed as manager on a permanent basis on 27 December on an 18-month contract.[14] On 24 May 2009, after guiding Sunderland to Premier League survival on the final day of the season, Sbragia resigned as manager of the club.[15] He remained at Sunderland as chief scout, a post which he held until April 2011.[16]

Sbragia was appointed head coach of the Scotland national under-17 team in August 2011.[17] He was moved up with the Scotland national under-17 team to coach the Scotland national under-19 team for the 2012–13 season.:

By my reckoning, you should have finished yer last working Monday.

Enjoy the rest of the week too.

  18. This is like a bad dream. I genuinely cannot believe we are even considering Roy Keane and I’m stunned if we are actually considering letting him retain a part-time role as Eire assistant.

His track record at clubs which are much smaller than us is poor. His record in the transfer market is appalling – did he really pay £4m for Diouf?? He has a history of attitude problems. He has only had 2 previous jobs in management and both were fairly short-lived. He gives the impression, to me anyway, that he is a bit ‘more heat than light’.

It feels like a Celtic move pre-McCann. Making an arse of being in a position of strength. We have a chance to build a legacy of total domination in Scotland for the next 10 years and I worry that losing Neil has damaged the chances of that.

All of that being said, nobody will shout louder for Roy next season and I desperately hope he will be a success. But I am very worried that we are about to make a huge mistake.

Bike sex man placed on probation

A man caught trying to have sex with his bicycle has been sentenced to three years on probation.

Robert Stewart, 51, admitted a sexually aggravated breach of the peace by conducting himself in a disorderly manner and simulating sex.

Sheriff Colin Miller also placed Stewart on the Sex Offenders Register for three years.

Mr Stewart was caught in the act with his bicycle by cleaners in his bedroom at the Aberley House Hostel in Ayr.

Gail Davidson, prosecuting, told Ayr Sheriff Court: “They knocked on the door several times and there was no reply.

“They used a master key to unlock the door and they then observed the accused wearing only a white t-shirt, naked from the waist down.

“The accused was holding the bike and moving his hips back and forth as if to simulate sex.”

Both cleaners, who were “extremely shocked”, told the hostel manager who called police.

Sheriff Colin Miller told Stewart: “In almost four decades in the law I thought I had come across every perversion known to mankind, but this is a new one on me. I have never heard of a ‘cycle-sexualist’.”

Stewart had denied the offence, claiming it was caused by a misunderstanding after he had too much to drink.

The bachelor had been living in the hostel since October 2006 after moving from his council house in Girvan.

CHARLES GREEN FAILS IN A BID TO DISSOLVE SEVCO 5088

    Martin Williams

FORMER Ibrox chief executive Charles Green has been thwarted in a bid to dissolve the company at the centre of major dispute over the ownership of Rangers.

The Yorkshire businessman who fronted the takeover of Rangers through the purchase of liquidated assets, has twice tried and failed to have the firm used for the purchase, Sevco 5088 Limited, struck from the companies register, it has emerged.

Experts say the move, if it was successful, would have undermined future court action by former Rangers owner Craig Whyte and business partner Aiden Earley over Rangers ownership.

The three men are currently locked in a legal battle over ownership of the Rangers.

Club auditors Deloitte previously raised concerns over an “uncertain outcome” of the potential litigation which they said remains a key uncertainty hanging over the business.

Donald McNaught, business recovery and insolvency director at Johnston Carmichael said: “The dissolution of that company would significantly undermine any right of action.

“If that legal entity is the vehicle that is entitled to an action, then it is fundamental to any later legal action, because it is the party with the rights.”

Mr Whyte had always insisted he was the main driver behind Sevco 5088 – the company identified by administrators in May 29, 2012 as being the newco that was “contractually obliged” to purchase the assets and business of operating company RFC 2012 plc which was in administration.

Mr Green denied in April, last year that Mr Whyte or Mr Earley were involved in Sevco 5088 and said director documents lodged at Companies House were not valid and it is understood were referred to police by legal firm Pinsent Masons.

Mr Whyte produced recordings of a conversation between the pair, with Mr Green appearing to tell him: “You are Sevco, that’s what we are saying.”

Mr Green said at the time: “This is correct but at that point I had signed a resignation letter and a stock transfer form because it was decided that a Scottish company should buy a Scottish institution. Sevco 5088 wasn’t required.” In April, last year, Rangers International Football Club plc, the holding company which owns the assets, said that Sevco 5088 was not an active subsidiary describing it as a “defunct non trading company”.

Termination proceedings began in 2012 and documents show RIFC claim it would have been struck off by the Registrar of Companies had “false claims of directorships” not been filed.

A statement on the Rangers website on April 12 said Mr Green was the sole director of Sevco 5088 and he had resigned to be the founder director of Sevco Scotland Ltd, the company he transferred Rangers’ assets to once the CVA had failed.

By October, last year, RIFC had spent £600,000 contesting the claim by Mr Whyte and Mr Earley.

This month it emerged Mr Earley was banned from being a director in Britain for five years.

But the Insolvency Service has given sanction for him to remain as a director of Sevco 5088. It was understood this is connected to the court battle over Rangers’ ownership.

In the last attempt, Mr Green was the only signatory to application to dissolve the company. Applications have to be signed by all or the majority of directors.

Following an objection, the proceedings were suspended. No further details were available.

According to Companies House rules, a request for dissolving a firm can be made if it is not subject to any legal proceedings, current or proposed and has not traded within the previous three months.

I haven’t read anyone call him any of the two things you mention.

On pure managerial cv alone Roy Keane is not qualified for the Celtic job.

Neil Lennon must be sick at the thought of Roy coming in getting paid more than him and getting more to spend.

The reason can only be to raise the clubs profile.
