The difficult task of replacing Commons

447

Brendan Rodgers would have looked at Kris Commons age, position and recent injury record and assumed he’s not going to get much from him this season. He’d not be the first Celtic manager to come to that conclusion about Kris.

Kris has created more chances per minutes played than anyone in a Celtic shirt over the last decade, and that includes the golden era of Nakamura, Maloney and McGeady, which brought us into the Champions League knock out stages for the first time.

He didn’t fit Ronny’s system and might not fit Brendan’s, but to win leagues, cups and qualify for Europe, you need someone who can be relied upon to open obstinate defences, and we’ve struggled to find a better tool for this job than Kris Commons.

He’s in the final year of his final Celtic contract, but if he goes, I hope it’s not before 31 August.

I said yesterday that genuine Rangers supporters had my sympathy,a point James Forrest made in his blog a little later.

I got roasted for it,and that’s no great surprise. Too many of them deserve little better.

*whit the “majority” that don’t sing ‘up tae oor knees..” and “eff the pope and the virgin mary”.

I never mentioned the word majority. I’m not bloody daft.

But,whatever their manifold faults, they do not deserve their rare good intentions to line the pockets of con men.

Unsubstantiated rumours that Warbs is poised to swoop for Leo Messi.

” He fits our player profile”, said the former city trader and future England manager.

  9. Thanx BMCUWP, i wondered how long it would take for someone to ask me that, lol.

  10. at the risk of being hung out to dry, instead of looking at buying a new defender; why not use one of the younger lads coming through? Tierney was (imo) a standout last season, why not look to the youth?

Dont get me wrong, i love the fact that we’re being linked with the likes of Toure and Duffy.

  12. Naw, im a long time lurker really. Some usernames are quite interesting.

BMCUWP, yours is one of them, how did you dream that one up!?

  13. Plymtim,

I thought young Jamie McCart was outstanding against Sturm Graz when he was on. Would like to see him break into the first team this season. He looks composed on the ball and a good reader of the game. Although it was only 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly he could be one for the future.

Not surprising that the Hun hordes turn against the man who brought their ‘plight’ onto the floor if thr House in his attempts to get State Aid for THEM. ‘Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned’.

there too much talk of football on the blog just now

luckily, with a new article imminent, Paul67 with his new found public interest in politics, will give us his views on the Chilcott enquiry, Jeremy Corbyns chances of remaining Labour leader, and who will win the race to be Tory leader

that should get the muppet show back in full swing on here

    Young O’Connell done well also,

Beat me to it,I think he has a bit of presence about him too

  17. Sadly mine is less interesting, nothing to do with purple dinosaurs, simply my Granda’s name was Barney, well Bernard really but everyone called him Barney, an i always wanted to called after him.

    Bobby M,

I said yesterday that genuine Rangers supporters had my sympathy,a point James Forrest made in his blog a little later.

I got roasted for it,and that’s no great surprise. Too many of them deserve little better. EDIT

    ***

I challenged your point re sympathy for RRM, on the grounds that I am unable to grant sympathy, or any other positive emotion to anyone, who either financially or emotionally, supports the entities from Ibrox.

I, in no way, attempted to “roast” you over your opinion.

In fact, I genuinely admire the extent of your charity.#gungadin

Just because one is born into a particular grouping doesn’t necessarily mean a lifelong adherence, especially after reaching the age of reason, if one discovers practices that are anathema to decent society.

If that was the case, there would be no lapsed Labour Party voters or Catholics, for example.

By my reasoning, albeit through biased eyes, to promote a club whose existence is based on sectarian bigotry, lies, fraud and law breaking, defies any semblance of decency.

Some merely wear the Mask better than others.

At my stage in life, there are few things that I get angry about.

One of them is the plausible disingenuousness of the “only support the team” and “just go to watch the football” brigade.

They really are the worst kind.

  24. Re McCart and O’ Connell.

I haven’t seen a whole pile of McCart but he looked the better of the two. O’ Connell is more physical but is very slow on the turn.

I’m guessing both of them will be sent out on loan this season.
