Brendan Rodgers would have looked at Kris Commons age, position and recent injury record and assumed he’s not going to get much from him this season. He’d not be the first Celtic manager to come to that conclusion about Kris.
Kris has created more chances per minutes played than anyone in a Celtic shirt over the last decade, and that includes the golden era of Nakamura, Maloney and McGeady, which brought us into the Champions League knock out stages for the first time.
He didn’t fit Ronny’s system and might not fit Brendan’s, but to win leagues, cups and qualify for Europe, you need someone who can be relied upon to open obstinate defences, and we’ve struggled to find a better tool for this job than Kris Commons.
He’s in the final year of his final Celtic contract, but if he goes, I hope it’s not before 31 August.

.Most skillful at the club say some.
Based on what evidence?
Those who criticise him don’t like silky football and only love blood and snores say others.
If he has silky skills then he must leave them on the training ground.
He seems capable of a 2 yard sideways or backwards pass. His ability to make forward passes is almost zero.
If he is such a great reader of the game and ahead of his team mates then that may be the reason he is almost always wrong side of opponent. If only we had a Tardis to gain full access to his superlative talent?
In pre season to date he has been posted missing.
Maybe he hasnae worked out that Tardis yet.

I like/liked Lambo. He did his coaching badges over here in Germany and brought over an autographed Celtic shirt for my 2 Bhoys. Somebody wore it and put it in the wash – the 2 Bhoys blame their nephew (my grandson) – needless to say it is now a normal Celtic shirt, lol.

The famous salutation of a Liverpudlian called Joey, naw no that one. He will forever be called Joseph now he has gone to snake mountain to pretend to be a footballer in a blue jersey. I’m talking about the wonderful Carla Lane character Joey from the sitcom ‘Bread’.
The city of Liverpool has always been linked to Glasgow and this summer it’s pretty much been Scousewegian with rumours and counter rumours about players coming up here. Brendan of course is a former Liverpool manager so it was inevitable we would be linked to certain players from his former club. Most will be out of our wage bracket. Interestingly though the bread is there because we have all put it on the table. Whether we have been able to pay up front, scrapping about down the back of the sofa or paying it up we have filled the ground in our thousands and stumped up the bread for Brendan’s Millions. I think Dermot and his board know they have a top man in charge. I thought he was spooked when he arrived and was faced with 13k fans. I like watching him work though and he appears to tick a lot of boxes already in what we expect from a Celtic manager. From what I have seen so far in the two bounce matches Brendan has shown that he will not make the same mistakes of his predecessor. The shape and the personnel are the same thus far. It’s not rocket science. He is looking at what he has. I doubt too much will change too quickly. Things will clearly step up a gear tomorrow as Celtic are now a week away from competitive action. The sound bites so far have been good. I like the way Brendan conducts himself. It’s very measured with an authoritarian air that makes you understand he takes no nonsense. Everyone appears to be getting a run out. Some players will not make the grade. No matter how you slice it when a new manager comes in they want to take the dough for some and there is a knead to despatch others. An authoritive manager at most clubs will cut the head dressing room man. The man with the influence. In working terms the shop steward. Usually not the captain but when the players are not happy he is the go to man and approaches the captain or a coach to intimate this and try to seek some common ground or work out a resolution. We have probably all experienced it. The manager says something at work and all eyes sweep to the team spokesman, the mediator, the man with the baws! A new Gaffer comes in and immediately gets a vibe for who that is and has a word or empties him. The rest now know whose in charge. I’m not saying it’s Kris, but looking at his reaction in Molde it may well be. If I were Brendan I would be watching him closely. I would be tempted to cut ties with him. He has never been great from the bench and I suspect he won’t be first pick. He deserves to play at this stage in his career and I would move him on. Superb player for us but his time is up. I would be tempted to say the same for Mulgrew but I suspect that is on ice until Brendan can source a replacement. I do like both players but we want a side with pace and both players lack in that area. As for replacing Kris. This is where British football is in the dark ages. You do not sell a player and replace like for like. Players are not cloned. We have made this mistake numerous times in the past. When a player leaves you have to look at what you are creating and bring a player in for what he possesses and what he can do. The media up here love a comparison. As soon as someone either breaks into the first time or signs they are the new Johnstone, Dalglish, Nicholas, Larsson, etc, etc. Players have to settle and they must get a run of games. Another mistake in recent years was the tendency to give players the odd start and a few sub appearances and then cut them loose. I saw a player in Berget against Dundee United when we battered them for 6. I saw a player in Pukki who looked like he needed to feel wanted and clearly wasn’t and Scepovic looked like he would score goals if he felt as wanted as Ciftci was who we could all see was no better and possibly less mobile. Players need a run of games and time to settle. Especially forwards. Henrik Larsson was signed as a winger. Took a few games to settle, mind Easter Road? I think he scored less than 15 goals in his first season although we could all see the quality and talent. He scored an OG in Europe v FC Tirol but Wim knew what he had backed him and developed him on the training pitch and in games. It took a lot of faith and a lot of time. He felt wanted and he also felt trusted. I think Brendan shows similar qualities when talking about his players and we must let him work. Did I just make a comparison? Oh shiiiiiitttee
No matter who Brendan brings in I trust them to be up to it. Brendan gives me that confidence. There is no point looking back on what players could do in recent years or did do. It’s a blank canvas with what I believe is one of the best young managers in Europe. I really believe he is. Progressive, innovative, tactically astute and able to make brave decisions and develop players and trust them to do their work and keep faith with them.
It’s our job as fans to back him. It’s Celtic so there will be bumps along the way but there is an air of confidence and belief not seen at Celtic Park since MoN walked through the doors.
I’m really excited for the new season. Feel like it’s going to be memorable for the right reasons. Me and the Bhoy have season tickets together for the first time. We will be around for much of the season as long as the Bhoy enjoys it. He is still pre-school so we will see how he does.
The bread has been put on the table. I suspect some of it will wing it’s way to Liverpool Joe Allen may just fancy a wee trip north and Liverpool may just be happy to accept rather than sell to a rival. If the Bhoyo does appear I think he will get the best of Greetings.
Apologies for the length of post but it has been a while and I love a ramble. May not be on as much as I used to but I look in from time to time.
God bless

Trier is a lovely town, founded by the Celts. It was originally a big Roman settlement, every time they dig a foundation for a new building they find more ruins and that puts a halt on the construction, until it is excavated.
LB …Are you Brendan Rodgers? :<)

Pog I was in the cathedral(magnificent) and got talking to the old Curate fella. He told me that Trier was the first place in Northern Europe the Romans settled in. Possibly the fine wines from the Mosel vineyards helped persuade them. Or did they bring the vines themselves? Hmm..

And for those looking in my last post is to Gordybhoy about The Clumpany. Might read like I’m referring to Gordybhoy insulting others!
Good Grammar eh? Who needs it?
ABURNTOUTCASE,
I love the Mosel region and one of my favourite places is Cochem, I’ve had couple of great trips down there with the wife. Yes they definitely know how to produce wine in that region.
RobT/Gordy …Someone (yesterday, I think) threatened to reveal on twitter Clump`s identity. Was suggesting he was a SMSM churnalist. Now, I have no idea if that is true, but Clumps lost the plot from then on. Got a bit personal at times tbh.

Aye,but thirty years later, those same TVs were used by Bib Geldof to force us off our arses, out of our apathy,to help alleviate a famine killing those millions.
Now,another three decades on,the TVs are bigger, the humanitarian disasters a daily occurrence and our country just voted to turn our backs on it all.

Leigh in the Herald.
“But that’s down to us players to execute that match plan. If we do that, we’ll really hurt teams. We need to be even more ruthless than we were last season. I’m sure the gaffer has said before that he’s inherited a very good squad. The quality is obvious. If he can add one or two that will make us a formidable force.”
==========================================================================
All that was needed was an accomplished coach.
Q.E.D.
Macjay,
I think many thought that there was the nucleus of a pretty good squad last season, I certainly did. My biggest gripe is not of the unaccomplished coach of last season but of the people in power who allowed him to continue in that position when it was very clear to many that we were going backwards.
Regardless, as I said to the two buns at work in the immediate aftermath of the semi-final debacle, “that may turn out to be your worst result of the season”. Much as I have very high hopes, we still need to strengthen in key positions, as Leigh has alluded to.
ANTIPODEAN RED on 6TH JULY 2016 4:40 AM
Absolutely right .
Very early on in his tenure , it became obvious that Ronny was the wrong fit.
How it was permitted to continue so long is beyond belief.
With the arrival of Brendan , however , it would appear that the Board realised that a grand gesture was required.
“Key positions.”
Central defence.
Crucial.
We have a squad of very mediocre players .
In a European context.
