The great United reunion, signing backup keepers

1109

Ronny Deila’s dream of reconstructing the Dundee United team of 2014 is on track as United have agreed terms for the sale of striker Nadir Ciftci, who is set to join Stuart Armstrong and Gary MacKay-Steven in green and white hoops.

United are feeling sore at losing three players to a rival but it could be argued this deal is a positive result for them.  They are no different than Celtic in needing to acquire good players who will enhance their team and generate transfer fees when they leave.

Armstrong and Mackay-Steven gave Celtic a timely boost when they arrived in the team in February.  If Ciftci adapts as quickly he’ll do well.

Signing a backup goalkeeper is a tricky call.  Do you blow a large slice of budget on a genuine contender for the goalkeeper’s jersey, or perhaps promote the next teenage David Marshall?  Both are viable calls.  If we sign Logan Bailly (29) for a fee from Belgian club Leuven the expectation at Lennoxtown is that he will push Craig Gordon.

That would leave us with competition across the field, apart from the left back slot…..

  2. Looking for some help on this season’s second string.

We seem to have a steady stream of youths and U20’s leaving on loan.

Where now the LB conundrum with CW away to the Rock for 10 months?

However what will de the team for this seasons second string competitions?

Any ideas on where we will be placed in the league after last seasons trials and tribulations?

Call me old fashioned but I would like a second string that is well known outside their own family / well known in their own street.

    Who is the CF?

    Who is the captain?

Who is the CB and how close is he to the 1st team?

Consequently do we have a settled U20 team?

Do we have a settled second / reserve team?

    Any pointers appreciated.

    WITs,

Yes I have read a lot about that period.

I am concentrating on 1913 to 1916 at the moment, with Celtic as light relief.

I will look up those clips,

    Thanks,

    a) I will be astounded of forehead if Martin Odegaard is loaned to us.

    b) I do not share the view that the SPFL`s top division is full of cloggers. We have some, of course, as does every league in world football ( I am assuming that as I haven`t seen every League ! ).

    c) I believe that constantly referring to the League as rubbish plays into the hands of the `we need a strong Rangers` brigade. Since their departure, it is my opinion that more teams are trying to play football albeit very defensively when they play us at Celtic Park.

    d) I will, in fact, be astonished if Martin Odegaard is loaned to us!

I thought last season was the least cluggy I have seen for a long time and I also thought most of the teams tried to play the ball on the deck and some of the teams actually playing decent football maybe not with the quality of players required but a decent attempt all the same..

  10. I’m not actually sure who Odegaard would displace from a midfield comprising any four of Brown, Bitton, Johansen, Mackay-Steven, Armstrong & Commons.

He’d get a few appearances coming on as a sub, and occasional starts, but I don’t see him challenging the first four of the above six for the accolade of most appearances over the course of the season.

  11. Watched great docu tonight about Scottish girl who played a big part in the Irish rising.

Margaret skinider .. Surprised Iv never heard of her,

Highly recommend it. YouTube it is on.

  12. How does that square up I with the oft repeated insistence that Scottish football/Celtic can’t attract good players because it’s no good enough ?

  13. JJ @ 22.23

    The SPL is getting better.

More players coming through the ranks and fewer past it foreign diddies coming in for an easy pay packet.

The SPL is not perfect — Euro qualification “prowess” proves that — but more coaches are asking more players to play constructive football.

  14. Ronnie would be hoping odegaard would be the man to help unlock the buses that park on the pitch on our home games… Also bit of flair for the group stages of we get there.

Few comments about Calvin miller aswel.. Hopefully he makes the grade but let’s remember odegaard is a full international.. Miller hasn’t been included in any Scotland squad yet .

Odegaard might help our younger players improve aswel.

Fair point even if made in jest !?!

Consequently who will be this seasons Arabs?

Who in the SPL will be joining us in 12 months time?

Plus who on here will be tearing their season ticket up in disgust?

As a matter of policy we should be taking in 2 SPL players every season.

Plus we should also be heavily publicising 2 of the Development squad moving up to the full squad — only two though as it should be quality over quantity.

Interesting piece of work plus a good joke, however …

I am none the wiser regarding who our Development team is?

We seem to have scattered a large number of former youths out on loan all over the place.

Not sure who has been sent out to add a bit of maturity to their game and personality and who has been sent out on loan to put them in the shop window?

Not enough structure in the talent pipeline for my liking.

Any thoughts on resurrecting Parkhead Juniors at a rebuilt Helenvale?
