The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

  1. Lads where would I find this info about if clubs owe tax authoritys then they can’t be granted a licence.

  2. Whyte could face ‘fit and proper’ test as SFA seek answers on disqualification

    http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/european/whyte_could_face_fit_and_proper_test_as_sfa_seek_answers_on_disqualification_1_1990246

‘Under the SFA’s Articles of Association, they reserve the right to rule on whether any individual listed on a club’s official return of office bearers is a “fit and proper person to hold such position within Association Football.”

Among the “relevant facts” listed by the SFA in their determination of such suitability, which they acknowledge as “illustrative and not exhaustive”, is that an individual “has been disqualified as a director pursuant to the Company Directors’ Disqualification Act 1986 within the previous five years”.’

So is ‘disqualified’ an adjective or a verb?

    Discuss.

Come to think of it the point of interpretation has probably come up and been decided previosly in another context.

No doubt the SFA’s lawyers are already on the case.

  3. Lads I think us as Celtic fans are onto something here I really do regarding Whyte and the SFA but most of all regarding Huns being issued this licence.

At the risk of sounding facetious, perhaps Rangers could state that they did not know that they were doing.

This was brought up last night on a different subject,so apologies for treading on toes.

ANYWAY,THE EXPRESSION SHOULD THE HUNS WISH TO USE IN THEIR DEFENCE IS

    SONATE IN RADICE

No need to thank me,Mr Whte.

  8. Interesting point to note from reading scotslawthoughts from an earlier post on this thread.

Basically CW has until December 10th to formally announce the date of Rangers AGM for the last date available being 31st of December (do you seriously believe they will hold their AGM on Hogmanay???)

What is most interesting about this is that HMRC take control of £2.3 million of arrested monies from the Rangers bank account on the 9th of December!!!

What is the betting that the 10th of December is the day all our Christmases become one???

The UEFA Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations Edition 2010

The UEFA Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations Edition 2010 details the specific requirements which a club must fulfil to be eligible to receive a licence, which is a necessary requirement for participation in the UEFA Club Competitions.

    The specific criteria requirements for clubs to fulfil is detailed in Articles 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 36, 37, 38, 40, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52 of these Regulations.

A report from UEFA about licensing states the reason why clubs have been refused licenses. This is what they said:

The 123 clubs ultimately refused licences were refused for a wide variety of reasons as the charts on this page illustrate. From the 221 reasons** given for failure, 42% were financial reasons and 58% other reasons. The three most common failed licensing criteria remain the same as the previous year with overdue employee and social tax payments the single most common criteria failed (31 clubs). The provision of annual financial statements to the satisfactory quality, detail and audit opinion (28) and an approved stadium (28) were the other two most common reasons but no single criteria were responsible for more than 15% of the total reasons for refusal.

This is available here at page 25.

  11. Lads I am going to send phil a message to see if he knows when this small tax bill was agreed because this will prove if Huns and the SFA are guilty.

“I recall at various junctures, when there was speculation about the Celtic manager’s position, calls for Martin’s return were seen as fanciful. Martin was waiting for a big club. Martin won’t live with budget restraints.

Now Martin goes to a lower premier league club and has reportedly agreed necessary budgetary restraint.

    I mean Martin, Sunderland?

    Sigh… ”

There have been many posters on this blog telling the unreformed MON romantics that Martin ain’t coming back. He has “done” Celtic and that is in his past unless a) we move into a more lucrative league or b) He gets sacked by clubs a few times and is desperate.

The blog has also been informed many times that Sunderland were his boyhood “English team” so he may have had close to as much regard for them as he had for Celtic.

Either way, the journalist, Pat Murphy, who is close to MON, has been on all radio stations this morning announcing confidently that he is on his way to Sunderland, in similar circumstances as those under which WGS joined Celtic i.e. He recognises that there is no money to spend, other than that generated by player sales, and there is a strong desire to get shot of some overpaid underachievers.

So much for the MON romantic myth that MON would not be prepared to be, what they call, a “board puppet”.

MON or WGS could have been Neil Lennon’s mentor at some time in his early career. They would both have been acceptable to Neil Lennon. The latter would not have been acceptable to a large group of fans as he would have been seen as a backward step. The former would have cast too large a shadow and would not have come back as mentor as it would only add pressure on Neil Lennon.

It is my confident assertion that, even if Neil had been sacked, MON would not have come back and will not be coming back to the SPL with Celtic.

I wish MON well in a job he wants to have. He did well for us in his time here and he did well for himself. I hope the MON romantics will get over their lost love and start focusing on our current needs.

    21 again?

Another interesting point for todays Record (I know I know but the work does have them lying about and this DID stand out)

Did you know that under SFA rules on fit and proper persons Nelson Mandela WOULD NOT be allowed to be a director of Rangers BUT Robert Mugabe WOULD!!!

what the Record failed to ask was: – Would either of them WANT TO???

Good Morning to he Celtic Family from a dry but very frosty Central Scotland.Well more problems for Rangers unsigned accounts tell a story Rangers are like a wounded animal that keeps being hit by bullets eventualy getting so weak it drops dead.At the moment many of the smaller creditors are taking legal action against them and now UEFA are making noises about them and the tax man and there court case is hovering the stock exchange are asking about Craig Whytes ban from holding a director ship as they have not be informed as they should have. The January transfer window could add to there problems as if they get any offers for any of there players as they are not in the position to decline them.Oh happy days.H.H.

  19. It’s very interesting to note that Grant Thornton have not signed off the accounts. The auditors will be up for re-appointment at the AGM which must take place within six months of its accounting reference date, in this case 31 December 2011. 21 days notice is required before the AGM can take place. (Remember, remember 10 December). Failure to hold an AGM is a criminal offence under section 336 of the Companies Act 2006.

If Grant Thornton doesn’t wish to be re-appointed (or wish to resign before then), they have to submit a resignation statement which has to say either:

“There are no relating circumstances which the members and creditors should know”, or “There are relating circumstances and those circumstances are x, y and z.”

If Grant Thornton is aware of any issues and don’t declare these, it can be held liable to shareholders and creditors in the event of insolvency.

    Things could get interesting.

  20. For the attention of those who would criticise each and every Celtic player who gets misrepresented by the press. Wise words from our manager:

“I’m not going to berate Beram for doing an interview and then for people to put their own slant on it.”
