The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

Agreed, but it’s clear from their own website, and their own statements, that he IS conducting business negotiations with people in Brazilian football. He is talking to Corinthians, about all manner of tie ups and links. He’s mooting TV deals. All of it might be – and certainly is – fanciful stuff, but my question is, if the trip is tax payer funded, exactly what basis is he over there? As a consultant to a government department? As a spokesperson for the SFA? Or as a business representative, and if that’s the case on what criteria were Rangers selected as representives of Scottish football’s business side and not Celtic or Aberdeen or Hearts?

You see what I’m saying? If this is publicly funded, you have a situation where a public body is engaged in granting a commercial opportunity to one company over others in the same field. If he’s there as a former Chief Executive of the SFA, as a Scottish football rep, why is he using his time over there to build commercial lnks on behalf of one club, the one which pays his salary? That is definitely a conflict of interest issue.

If this is publicly funded in ANY way, shape or form, are you happy about it? That’s YOUR money, my money, our money, being used to promote Rangers global brand.

Clarkson has built a career on providing the British public with outlandish , semi offensive remarks – he was never going to say

‘Good on the Public Sectore for fighting for their rights – they should be applauded’

    Was he?

I can take him or leave him – he neither amuses or offends me..a bit too ‘lost in Public School 80s’ for my tastes.. but just a harmless diddy underneath it all

I have been around longer than I wish, and in that time I have seen life and seen the crap that goes with it, and I know what I see before me, the OF is alive and kicking.

Now there is a choice that will have to be made very soon, forget the hun involvement, that is a given, every man and his dug knows waht has been going on, it’s now the turn of the subserviant Timmy to have his say, and what will subserviant Timmy say ?

I honestly do not like the position we are in mi amigo, I really don’t, tis stick or bust time.

And the next post will be about who plays the next game, the sad thing is, the next game might well be the last game, that is how seriuos things are, and 99% of normally sensible thinking Tims can not see it.

He will be their representing his club , and , he is perfectly justified in doing so.

On most of these trade missions, there are discounted places available for small / medium sized companies to go along and try to sell their goods . There is nothing wrong with that as it is trying to promote either export or inward investment to the UK

My point is what have they got to export ? Tax expertise ? , I struggle to see Brazilian companies wanting to buy their football expertise.

On the other hand if you had an entrepreneurial spirit and were involved in the launch of a successful web mag, you could apply to go one of these trips and sell your idea to foreign investors, and have a pleasant trip to Brazil ….:-)

Just read it, surely they’re not trying to deflect from the latest trouble down in hunland ?

Even sadder that they have had a skivvy pore over the Spanish press in order to ridicule our players is the fawning article on how the two binned Indian guys are just so grateful to the famous Glasgow Rangers and Mr McCoist for giving them a chance !!!

    They really are beyond parody.

And I agree with you. I notice that despite the fancy headlines, despite the big talk, nothing has actually been agreed. No viable strategy or commercial benefit has actually emerged.

If you want my inside view on the outcome of the struggles that scottish football is going through, I will give it in a couple of words.

    IT’S FECKED

It’s gone in the way it’s been, part time football is the next step, and we have to decide our next move.

The saving grace is the world ecomomy, and within the big picture Celtic are potentially the biggest money making venture on the planet.

Whatever happens in sectarian land, we will come out of this as one of the big players, be it DD and his mouser, or be it the supporters, Celtic will never die.

The hun will die eventually, sad thing for me it will not be in my life time to see it, but as god gave me children, they give me grandchildren, and when we meet up eventually, they will be able to tell me the stories of the hun demise, and the end of their hatred.

The whole trip sounds like a nice wee holiday for the boys. I’d be surprised if anything meaningful came of the event for Scotland and certainly not for Rangers.

I doubt Corinthians website is leading with a story about securing a deal with the mighty Glasgow Rangers. Their directors would probably be utterly bemused by that article.

“They are building a new stadium for the World Cup in 2014 and we can offer a lot of advice on that front.” ???

What on earth does this even mean?! I hope they are not advising on the best way to maintain the big screens.

After the farce that was the Indian trials this is yet another smoke screen to distract angry bears on the day the SFA state they are launching an investigation into their Chairman and the day after they release worrying unaudited accounts.

Duffield will be boasting to anyone who will listen that he went to the Maracana and met Pele, possibly at the tax payers expense, but I can’t bring myself to be angered by that when I picture him scratching his wig in astonishment when he sees his club left in tatters by HMRC/The Whyte Knight.

I knew him way before he got his break, he was a gas, funny as anything I have ever met in my life, I for a short time worked in a bar in Edinburgh, the St. Vincents in Stockbridge, and he was a regular, and we had many a night on the extra stuff that was obtainable out with the bar, and as I said, never a hun, never in a lifetime a hun, this is not the place for the stories, but never a hun.
