The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

A big well done to the Kano Foundation bhoys. Whilst the fans put in the money, the hard work and effort of these lads make the whole thing workable and shoul not go unnoticed. Cheers Sannabhoy and Kingoh and indeed the CM bhoys that also are part of the Foundation.

Next Friday, the 9th December brings the 2 year anniversary of Kano coming home. Last year we raised a wee malt to his 1st anniversary on the night, and I am proposing that this year not only we do this again, but also celebrate the TKF bhoys and the 1000th Kano kid visiting Paradise at the same time!

No quiz this Friday, as the Fatbhoys are out on the pull. The quiz will return on the 9th with your host and virgin quizmaster, Bjmac taking the reigns. Be gentle with him :-)

  5. The Legend Johnny Doyle on

Here is a post from me earlier in the year:

    …………………………………………………………………….

Neil Lennon through necessity because of the injuries to Hooper, Stokes and young James Forrest was forced to play George Samaras as a lone striker in the 2011 New Year fixture at Ibrox. Most of our support before that game was against George playing; but Neil had no choice and the Celtic support new that and our support roared their approval in support of Samaras that day, Neil Lennon discovered something, and so did the Celtic Support, Need I say more!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofz-EZ40_sw

George can also play in the hole behind the front Two. Watch his pass to Emilio who squared for Hooper’s Second goal in the 3-0 win v Rangers:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXKc_E6W9rI

Samaras works his arse of for the team, has shown great loyalty and commitment to Celtic, he loves his life in Glasgow and also loves playing for Celtic, these facts have been well documented.

If Samaras gets his Four year deal (which I sincerely hope he does) we will see the best of Samaras; we will see even better if the support gets behind him.

If it wasn’t for the injuries to the other strikers we probably would have never seen those Two Goals from George. Support the Guy because that’s what we do; we are Celtic Supporters faithful through & through.

    Hail Hail

    ……………………………………………………………………………………….

I see a few of you are still trying to undermine our George, I have said before and will say again; if you are not with us you are against us, you are not helping the team, you are a negative influence on the team, the Booing is an affront to decent minded supporters, your so called support is not welcome, you are not Celtic Supporters faithful through and through so get lost you are not required at Paradise.

I have never called anyone a Hun on here and never will but some of the dissenters on here are acting in a manner unbefitting of a Celtic Supporter.

  7. The Legend of Johnny Doyle- Great post and loved watching that action again. I said last night that if Sammy continues in the same vein, pumps the Huns on 28th and then gets a contract with an EPL side there are going to be a lot of sorry people up here.

And you can bet the biggest moaners will be those that gave him dogs abuse over the last few years.

Sammy brings something to the team that no-one else does or can. We lose him at our peril.

  8. It breaks my heart at some of the signings we have made, and in particular that we didn’t sign the 6″5″ Marc Janko from Salzburg Red Bull.

He scored an incredible 62 goals in 76 appearances during his last two seasons in Salzburg.

He has scored 30 goals in 49 matches since joining FC Twenty, including the winner in their FA cup final against Ajax.

  9. Love this Sky Sports advert – the one with the guy leaving the girl back home after a night out. The girls keeps suggesting – and suggesting another night out but the guy keeps stalling her because of football telly nights.

The girls a bit of babe. The guys got a face like a busted boot.

Are you being serious? By the way what is a doopleganger?

If you meant DOPPLEGANGER your way off the mark.

  12. It said: “The Insolvency Service took civil proceedings against Craig Whyte and he was disqualified on June 13 2000 from being a director for a period of 7 years in relation to Vital UK Limited.

So at the time of taking over the Hun Whytey Whyte was only 4 years ban free.

What punishment can the SFA administer? Is it a ban from Euro comps for a year? What other options do they have.

If Whytey Whyte Newco’s as is expected and the Hun is banned for 3 years anyway what difference does it make? Ok he can’t be a director or owner of Newco until 14th of June 2012. Does that cause a problem for him Newco-ing or can he just give someone the money to buy it for him.

  13. TT

To be fair, Fortune wasn’t signed as a striker, and to be fair, he was off loaded quicker than I thought he would be, I also don’t think Sammi was signed as a striker.

As for the other two, I concur, Jesus wept….

David Ki – There is no doubt he’s a cracking footballer. I’d like to see him playing off the front two. George is also a proper footballer. I sit in the JS lower. Once again our George got it double tight from complete D*cks. Again. Too much. Hows Estadio doing?HH.

Tiny Tim, agree Janko looks ideal.

Other strikers we have been “linked” with whether gossip or real gave been

…. Seydou Doumbia during BTM time. Now banging them in in Russia.

…. Van Wolfswinkle, linked with him before his hattrick against us. Scoring for fun for Lisbon and linked with Man Utd.

…. Oliver Giroud now linked with arsenal.

…. Baba Diawara, scoring in Portugal, hopefully back in for him in January.

  17. Was at the game last night haven’t seen the goal on TV yet, thought at the game I though big Fraser was at fault, all the accusations against Kayal may or may not be true but I for one though he along with Sammy were excellent last night. On the whole the team competed well and held their own against very good team. I did have a lookback at CQN when I got home and couldn’t believe some of the negativity that was posted during the game, some guys seriously need a reality check. I think somebody posted that Atletico spent something like £35m in the summer that alone should be enough for some guys to temper their criticism.

  18. The latest p**h from RFC website-

    Headline- “CORINTHIANS TIE-UP”

    Facts-

    “Rangers have opened discussions…..”

    “There could be scope…..”

“There might even be a chance…”

Best of all (Ali) Russel told Rangers.co.uk “We are both the biggest clubs in our respective counties (sic)……

They are a never ending source of ridicule.

  19. this has probably been debated all night, but can someone tell me if ‘fit and proper’ status in terms of the SFA’s ‘governance structure’ is well defined and black and whyte? please tell me it is so :)

SFFS just beat me to it with Oliver Giroud, just going that extra wee bit with ambition, its not a consideration with the current set up.

Guess Tony Mowbray going for whats now a Doncaster short term contract star MA Fortuné is what has scared them off sanctioning any more big spending, those in charge dont trust the man they have put in place to manage football to make these decisions. A sign they have picked someone they dont think is 100% right or the job and not the best choice for the job. I think NL is doing ok considering and the right man for the job right now. But.

  25. The SFA enter stage right raising concerns that Craig Whyte is an assett stripper ? And a disgraced one at that ? Sir David Murray has played a blinder. Really looking forward to his final flourish.
