The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

  3. I think the SFA’s statement in fairness to them makes it clear they have been asking Rangers questions about Whyte for a few weeks now. Probably since just after the BBC program. The admission yesterday to the Plus markets means the SFA have upped the ante. They now want answers by return

The SFA are deserving of our skepticism, as they have been proven to be anti Celtic in the recent past. Not suspected of being anti Celtic, proven to be anti Celtic. However there is no suggestion Stewart Regan is of that ilk.

The SFA , operating properly, should act to protect all and any member clubs. They should not act to protect shysters associated with any member club. There is a huge difference, and the SFA are on rock solid ground here if they go after Whyte. They are not going after Rangers

I wonder if he was there to look at Ki.

If so, I wonder who he has now turned his attention to!?

I think we could ‘player trade’ a bit better with our squad players.

We sign guys like Daryl Murphy, Glen Loovens, Jos Hooiveld, Rasmusson etc for money not really expecting them to set the heather alight.

Tell ya the way I think we should do it.

Have a core of 9-10 players on £25k or so a week – top quality players.

Then the rest of the 1st team squad – 6,7 or 8 made up with our bhoys.

Our bhoys have never let us down, and when they have played dont look much worse than the squad type players.

O’Dea (Milan), David Marshalls (Barca), John Kennedy (Barca), young Chambers vs Rennes have all played and excelled when put into pressure situations.

the one thing they all had in common was they were only thrown in because of an injury crisis.

The other thing you get with the bhoys is they might just get better with each game they play (ofcourse might not, might also get too big for their boots) however, see the likes of the squad players I have mentioned – we all know they wont.

However, we would need less board interevention and less ‘take your pick from players out of this market or that country’ type encouragement.

  10. Mr Whyte’s statement, with the accounts, said turnover rose nearly £1m to £57.2m.

That was helped by extra income from European games, “although there was an overall reduction in season ticket sales, hospitality sales and sponsorship revenue”.

I wonder what’s behind their reduced real income, the recession ?

Any chances the record will lay off celtic before D Utd match ?

Don’t see a flaw in your argument, apart from not enough in the squad mind you :>). but I see where you are coming from, and it makes sence.

We are a selling club unfortunatly.

In the last few seasons we have bought a whean of players, some have been ok, some not, but there seems to me that some have been bought with the sole purpose of selling on for a few bobs, and this has not worked out for the best.

Why would guys like Fortune, Fox be bought for a few bob and moved on so quick ?

The splurge in big TM’s last window, and they are now out on loan or gone, something no quite right imo, but no matter, as long as the club make the right choice in the coming weeks and months re the hun, everything will be hunky dory.

A very good summation of the current situation.

I guess one question I would like clarified is whether Mr.Ogilvie will be involved or not, considering one of his previous positions and the period which it covered.

Would this be a conflict of interest?? just wondering!!

The reason I said no cover and that one of Majstorovic and Loovens were considered 1st team material was taking for granted K Wilson was the other.

Which I think is a fair enough assumption.

Wanyama admitted himself he had never played in centre half.

Lennon has admitted himself the lad doesnt want to play there and separately that he sees him as a central midfield player.

I think that particular quote intimating he had an inkling of putting him in at centre half was more about ass covering than any real intentions of Victor Wanyama becoming a centre half for Celtic.

Dont forget when we want someone in a position we get them – we seem to like full backs very much..!

  19. The Reagan quotes in the BBC link from above show the C.E of the SFA in an extremely bad light. This demonstrates that he is already onside as far as operation save the huns save Murray face. This man seems out of his depth. I have lost faith in the little I had left. Who is advising him ? Duffield

perhaps ? Good be him spouting off. It sounds like it. When he and Ogilvie are the best that they can muster along with Doncaster preceding such lumanaries as Gold Peat and Duffield. It is amateur and our game reflects it

Yeah id agree with you mucker.

Dont think there are many more out there yet.

Maybe in a game or two, when Kayal has put his meat and 2 veg on the line more than anyone else consistently people will start giving him a bye ball.

cowardice against Kayal is an extreme case of selective amnesia

That’s a highly interesting question and I think I see where you’re going with it.

If his trip is funded by the taxpayer, if he’s over there on government development business, is he ALLOWED to be symultaneously representing the corporate interests of his employer, Rangers FC, using information and/or contacts he is being publicly funded to cultivate?

Aren’t there serious conflict of interest issues there? Especially for other clubs trying to break into those markets, but don’t have the “benefit” of being over there as government or publicly funded reps? Aren’t there laws against that?

I don’t think there is a conflict in that area …just my opinion.

But, if it is supposed to be about trade links and investment, then I struggle to see what a Scottish football team ( and I include all others) could possibly export ?
