The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

Nothing yet, we missed out in the summer, nothing to do with permits, all about money.

The Spanish press, Marca have had Barca, Real, Sevilla, Valencia linked with him, he is the biz, now we could match and beat the latter two when it comes to money, but we can’t match them when it come to football, I know what I would choose if I were Baba.

The latest p**h from RFC website-

    Headline- “CORINTHIANS TIE-UP”

Aye that’ll be the Corinthian in Glasgow and the only Brazilians they are likely to get close to will belong to the female bar staff who work there.

Come to think of it there is probably no other club in the world that could be so closely associated with “Brazilians” if you get my meaning.

Why slag off Sammi when a player for FC Twente scores?

Don’t get me wrong, I dig your negativity – it’s your USP. But coming on here with a cheap shot at Sammi given how he’s been performing… it’s a heid scratcher.

I don’t post a lot but when I do; I save all my posts to my memory USB thingy, just in case they are ever brought back up against me. I am one of those paranoid Celtic Supporters that the laptop loyal know exist and love to ridicule…….

I am happy I made you smile; your post certainly had the same affect/effect (I can never remember what one it is) on me.

    Wish you well friend.

  8. Guinness is good. My mate (our tim landlord) cleans those pipes every week:)

    Regarding the other bars mentioned:

Sheephaven Bay is a crackin’ Celtic Bar, sports bar and a great Irish bar. Recommended.

The White Bear has had a change of landlord and gone off the boil, Celtic games wise.

The Landlord in the Marquis of Grumpy (see what I did there?) will show or not show the game, stop letting people in etc at his whim. Great central location though.

  9. I expect the SFA ‘investigation’ into Whyte will last so long that by the time it concludes the 5 year period will have elapsed and nothing can be done. But god help the next club with a similar situation.

  10. Another final and devastating nail in the coffin of the Huns, their Whyte knight on his insane magic steed is a c*****l and the SFA knew it. What’s next I wonder?

  11. The Referees Committee will be re-convened for one last sitting for Whytemare. You actually couldnt make up a messier scenario than real life (and death hopefully) at Poundland.

I can also recommend the guiness at the tooting tim Csc.

A good bunch of tims go although it’s not always crowded, there is always a good welcome and a good conversation on the go. One of the few bars in London to have a Celtic picture on the wall too.

The SFA have been covering it up, and had to act following the BBC Documentary …FUDS

What puzzles me is, when it is concluded that he has breached the legal protocol, what can the SFA do…?…..and on another cw saga item……..if, as he says, they don;t owe the bank anything, who are the net debt, and the net liabilities ‘owed’ to…….he robbed Peter (who?) to pay Paul (Lloyds)…..it just gets worse for them every day, and better for the rest of Scottish Society……BE OFF WITH YOU, SATAN…!!!!!!!!!!….TICK (won’t be long now) TOCK.!!

With the tax bill etc, …….that’s circa £80m…….BYE BYE (Pardon the p(h)un)…..LOL…!!!!

  18. I expect the SFA never imagined that Rangers would fail this rule. No doubt they are trying to devise a get-out for the huns.

Like your nome de blog, these people know about football, so in short, NO.

Ask yourself why we have done about 5-7 mills worth of buisness with the same club that Bangura came from the last few years, I have and can’t work it out, yet, but I’m sure somebody will.

That is a fair and interesting point and porbably one which could explored further.

With the people who run our club there will be vested self interest in there somewhere.

Maybe not akin to G W Bush being a major shareholder in the arms company which had the contract with the american army just before Iraq – but a self serving interest somewhere.

Its also a shame that they are only willing to spend 0-1.5m on projects.

Sometimes, if you follow your scouts professional opinions, to spend £4m could easily make you £6m in pure profit within 6-12 months with the EPL watching so intently.

  23. Eyes Wide Open on

Id like to ask a question.

When the manager is sitting down pre season working out who hes keeping, who hed like to buy, which youngster hes going to push into the 1st team, what tactics hes going to employ, etc etc

What makes his say yes to Loovens and no to Hooiveld?

I reckon theyd be on similar wages

I believe Loovens is out of contract at the end of next season – so with regards to transfer fees last summer or January is the only hope we have.

Do you think it could be a case of something very differently happening behind closed doors?

Im not sure there is, because we made no attempts at bringing in centre half cover in August.

which meant that one of Majstorovic or Loovens was considered as 1st team material, with the other being considered good enough as back up (perhaps with Charlie Mulgrew).

Miffed at any of those being considered good enough – but intrigued as to where the distinction was drawn between Loovens and Hooiveld

  24. I thought lennie did the right thing by defending kayal, I did wonder if he had ducked, whether or not he did, he showed a lot of cohones (spelling ?) to defend him publicly, they’ve been all over him like a red rash, we mustn’t forget 24 is very young.

  25. Up over the goal 21.22

    Get grip of yourself.

    I didn’t single out Sammi.

    But you have.

He has played well very recently.I actually told someone to get off his back at Inverness.I have defended him regularly, however he has not scored enough goals.

Janko would have scored more goals than any of the FOUR strikers i mentioned.

  26. The SFA Investigates Craig Whyte and Why Nothing Will Come of it, But is he Falling Foul of Company Law?

    http://scotslawthoughts.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/sfainvestigatescraigwhyte/

The post is 1,300 words so:-

short answers – his ban was imposed over five years ago – so no SFA/SPL ban on that ground.

Re company obligations, and I quote myself:-

“Has Mr Whyte, in his stewardship of the club, fulfilled his duties to it, as opposed to his duty to himself or the Group? Has his tenure fostered “the company’s business relationships with suppliers, customers and others”? Has the company the company maintained “a reputation for high standards of business conduct”?”

Aye, the scouting programme should pay for itself many times over, the bigger clubs for some unknown reason fail dramaticly to unearth guys like Izzy and the like, they are concentrating on the ready made player, and are willing to part with the readies if needs be, when players like Izzy show their worth.

There has been speculation as to why Kenny Dalgliesh was at the game last night, he could well have been looking at a player from AM, whatever, if was looking at Kayal, and he makes an offer that PL thinks will help balance the books he will go, no doubt about that, we are in the business these days of jam tomorrow, and players our scouting system uncovers will be sold to keep the club running.

Tis a sad state of affairs, but that’s the reality.

  29. 67 Heaven

Whyte is going to put them under and walk away from all that debt.

The big question that nobody knows the answer to is.

What with the penalty for doing this be?
