The Hooiveld – Samaras point

718

Our best wishes to Jos Hooiveld, 28, who has managed to resurrect his career at Southampton 23 months after completing an unsuccessful move to Celtic.  Southampton, newly promoted to the English Championship this season, sit top of the division, with Jos a key part of their success.

The big defender clearly has more than he was able to demonstrate during his time here, despite Celtic clearly being in need of a strong central defender.  Last night, after Georgios Samaras was send forward to lead the line, it occurred to my just how unsuitable he is as part of a front two.  All that gutsy energy, running and yes – bravery – both in terms of diving into challenges and always being available for a team mate, no matter what feedback he is receiving from the stands, is hidden when he’s up front.

Give him space to gallop into on the wing or let him find his own Southampton.

  1. hen1rik – the key with the “wee” tax bill is when did the first demand land on the doorstep at Ibrox. If it was prior to the deadline for the details of the UEFA club licence and for whatever reason it was not disclosed, then there is an unholy mess.

The deadline for submissions for a UEFA club licence with the SFA for season 2011/12 was 31/03/2011. If that bill, which the tax part is undisputed on, landed on the doorstep of Ibrox prior to the 31st March they unequivocally should not have had the opportunity to be pumped out of 2 European tournaments this year.

Considering the story goes WHyte unearthed this during his 6 months due dilligence, I find it very very hard to believe the bill was not known about prior to March 31st. In fact it is probably impossible looking at the timings of accounts where the provision was made for it.

Agreed and WGS Helicopter Thursday was an amazing night.

But if I was asked to pick between the 2 it’s MON for me everyday of the week.

  4. Mr RFC: “Now this bit about tax bills and stuff. The Revenue claim that we owe them a bit of cash but we have a legal opinion saying we don’t. It will all be sorted out soon, don’t worry.”

Mr SFA: “That will do nicely sir.” Stamps application as Accepted and offers funny handshake.

GS, with a fraction of the budge, took Celtic to the last 16 of the CL twice. He won 3 consecutive league titles, the first since big Jock to do so.

I for one will remember wee Gordon as fondly as I do MON.

The different ways in which MON and WGS spoke to and about the support had a lot to do with how the support perceive them both in a different manner. WGS always had less respect for those who hadn’t played the game , and maybe he was just a wee bit too honest in dismissing the shell suit wearing devil dug owning supporters. MON was , in my view, a bit more diplomatic in dealing with people like that, and the press. He could cut them down to size, without them actually realising he had done it.

I didnt visit Parkhead as much under WGS as under MON, for various reasons, but when I did, nights such as the 3-0 v Benfica showed that he could get the team playing football too. I’dcompare the budgets though, look at our levels of debt pre and post MON and pre and post WGS – they are not drastically different, MON went for quality, WGS for quantity. A combination of both and we may have had some team.

Usually at an AGM there is a resolution to re-appoint the auditors and shareholders get to vote on this. In the vast majority of the case this passes without problems.

The shareholders can ask for a general meeting to remove an auditor but again this meeting needs to be called 14 days in advance and a special resolution asking for the removal of the auditor needs to take place. This will attract serious negative puiblicity for Rangers.

The auditor can resign at any time or not put itself up for re-appointment but needs to state the reasons why it doesn’t want the job again.

If the auditors do resign, the directors can appoint a new one without the need of a general meeting.

    re last night’s topic (wife-beating)…

i got this today from someone i know…

    _________

With regards to the question at hand. If someone is divorced, then he or she has NOT excluded him or herself from recieving Holy Communion. If, however, the person is divorced and has entered into another “marriage” then the reception of Holy Communion is not permissable. If a declaration of nullity has been given regarding the first “marriage” (which has been judged not to have been a marriage), then the person is free to marry, and if the person does so in accordance with Christ teachings then recieving communion ‘without eating ones own condemnation’, as St. Paul says, is something to be encourage.

In the situation you mention I don’t know if a declaration of nullity has been given, but if the woman is living a chaste life (i.e. she isn’t living with someone esle) then she can recieve without contradicting her original promise to the man she married. She is not expected to live with someon who beats her, but she is called to be faithful to her marriage vows if these have been judged to be the real thing. Marriage always recieves the benefit of the doubt: so she has to view herself as being married, and act accordingly, until a judgment of a competent body says otherwise. The Cross is never far away in married life.

    ————————————————————-

I’ve never ‘visited’ Parkhead in my life mate. I’ve always gone because I want to support Celtic. Also it wouldn’t matter who was at the helm, I would still be there.

  26. I’m Neil Lennon (tamrabam) at 12:03

WGS spent more in transfer fees in 4 seasons that MON spent in 5 seasons

I don’t have the actual figures for spend but in terms of profits made on trading, in MON’s tenure we spent £5.8m less than we recouped from player sales. Under Gordon Strachan, we spent £16.3m less than we made from selling players.

    Mort

  27. Mort – I don’t have all the figures in front of me now, so can’t disagree with your sums. My point was that O’Neill’s era wasn’t built completely on debt as many people seem to think. The Barnes era actually cost us as much. What did happen during MON’s reign is that Desmond increased his shareholding, to the detriment of the smaller shareholder, possibly on the back of a view that we would get a move to the EPL.

It seems to depend. Frank Sinatra married again late in life after his last retiral. He and his last wife were frequent communicants at his local parish. Now, his parish priest must have been unbelievably unworldly if he was unaware of Mr Sinatra’s long and chaotic marital histories.

  29. cardiffbhoy at 12:10

And if he hadn’t increased his shareholding with the new issue of shares, our finances would be in a much more perilous situation.

I think the fans should have been given the opportunity to purchase more of these shares so as to dilute his holding but for whatever reason, this didn’t happen.
