The need to put a stake in the CL ground

152

Yesterday, we were an outlier; having a player harshly red carded by a VAR, then losing five goals away from home in Europe.  This morning, not so much.  Manchester United only lost the four goals when they went down to 10 men, but they were playing Copenhagen.  A truckload of compensatory sentiment accommodated Erik ten Hag as he explained his team’s defeat last night.

Copenhagen’s win was only the fourth in this season’s Champions League from a team outside of the top 5 leagues against a team from that monied group (Feyenoord, Galatasaray and Shakhtar have each won once), nothing from Portugal, Switzerland, Austria or Scotland.  The chasm between the haves and have nots is larger than ever.

This stat is unlikely to change in Rome later this month, for Celtic, a win on Match Day Six is important.  We need a stake in the ground in this tournament for next season.  Beat Feyenoord, learn quickly and move on.

SAINT STIVS on 9TH NOVEMBER 2023 7:22 PM

As the Club has already stated and the group and its members are well aware, the steps taken and suspensions made have categorically not been imposed as a result of the display of Palestinian flags.

i look forward to the plc flying the palestinian flag up one of the poles above the north stand.

i am sure i have seen the basque one often.

They would fly the Israeli flag if they thought they could get away with it

Will you be saying something similar if another Scottish Team does well tonight? :-))))

I take responsibility for that…..I had a bet on Paok at 0-1 !

Maybe I am becoming too Establishment (please not !!) but I don`t see much wrong with the Celtic Statement.

It is a statement to convince the fans that they did not lie about the reason (flags) behind the GB ban.

In comparison to the statement they released regarding the accusations that Celtic fans are antisemitic. In fact the statement they released was more about the club defending & protecting Liel Abada.

  5. I might have asked earlier but why are the Huns odds on to win this evening?

Didn`t Sparta outclass them in the first game?

  6. Anyone that really, really wants a ticket for our upcoming game against Aberdeen will get a ticket.

With a tiny, tiny wee bit of endeavour, check out various Celtic sites like ” Celtic Spares” on the twittering and facing book.

Support the bhoys, you can if you want to.

  7. I look forward to the GB retort to that statement.

I still think banning them will have a detrimental effect on atmosphere and this could lead to indifferent results.

    I hope I am wrong.

If its about pyros why cant the club do a pyro display safely an hour or so before kick off get fans in early?

    D :)

or cfc plc ticket operations could get all the seats back on the system before decalring a sold out statement.

    the attendnace will be 58.400.

    the gorund holds 60,400

  9. I am often told that hate is a terrible thing so I`ll just say it really sickens me when things go well for the Huns .

Re the club statement … mostly fine with it.

Sets out clearly that concerns communicated more than once (to someone) … with no improvement.. so next steps are tougher (to say the least).

Finally, I thought this was phrased unintelligently

“That is particularly so, when there is evidence of the group using banners and flags relating to or connected with terrorist organisations involved in the conflict in the Middle East”

“Organisations designated as terrorists by many governments including the UK” is the current phrase surely?

  11. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

More tangibly – I hope those not involved are not impacted.

Rail seating capacity is what? 2,000 ?

“Let the 1,733 back in !”

BTW – who are the Green Brigade?

  12. BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL on 9TH NOVEMBER 2023 8:22 PM

Re `terrorists` I didn`t think they were referring to Hamas there. I thought there were some other flags.

Anyway, off for now. 2-0 Huns…..and Cantwell . Can it get any worse? 6-0???

  13. That absolute bellend of a VAR team did the Devils work.

Just because you huv mair viewers than Scotland.

Still Sick efter that Targeting of our maist effective Leo Sayer in that particular game.

I wisnae even Born when unbelievable cheating was going on, I can only go by jibber jabber frae Celts I trust.

VAR is a death knell and the Ultimate Tool to be abused.

  14. SS,

The tickets are all sold. , hence the sold out communication .

Tickets up for grabs have been paid for and subsequently sold.

The question is, do you really, really want a ticket. ?

If so , there are numerous avenues to purchase one.

I hope and trust you will pursue that outlet.

    Support the bhoys.

Watched Sparta’s home game against the Huns.

They should have been out of sight by HT, but we’re hopeless in front of goal.

  16. RC

Maybe they are but they are still better this half.

Still it’s a wee change from you moaning about Celtic.

  17. Still it’s a wee change from you moaning about Celtic.

me moan about my beloved team , never.

  18. wonder what the plc think of a full bus (maybe more than 1 ?) of tic fans already on their way to the airport before the game had even finished ?

the euro away fans are becoming sick of the defeats. Guys who have been going away for years have had enough.

the next few weeks are massive for the tic.

  19. Spikeysauldman

Plenty of others would love to get tickets for the away CL games. Folk who might want to show a bit of support for the team when they are clearly pretty hard done by by officials against cheating scum.

Maybe those who have been going for years not going would have a silver lining and allow others a chance.

  20. SPIKEYSAULDMAN

They’ll probably think the same bus will be the first to

go to Glasgow airport next CL game.

As TONTINE TIM referred to the late great TOMMY BURNS

the other night “ They’re there and they’re always there “

Hope you and yours are all good mhate.

I’m starting to get hyped for the dons game now.

    Athletic who ?

    H H. Mick

  21. I wonder if all the non top 5 league teams who have lost virtually every game vs a top 5 league team would see their so called fans bugger off before the end like that.

Not Red Star, Not Young Boys, Not even Antwerp

Still if you are lucky enough to get a ticket and pay your money then it’s up to you how you support your team.

Sing when your winning is the expression that springs to mind.

Good evening all from Benidorm. The small doll has decided I can watch the Aberdeen game in the Bodrhan bar.

  23. Spikey

I speak as a veteran lucky enough to go to over 40 away European games. Someone who went to Neuchetel, Donetsk twice, Artmedia and many more defeats.

For me it makes the odd point or away win even sweeter.

I don’t expect it to be like most movies with a happy ending.

There is good reason why we are underdogs. We play in a pub league every week. Like the other pub leagues teams. It’s not possible to raise it at the top table 6 times.

  24. The Club has evidence of these behaviours. These behaviours have been set out most recently in writing to the group on 14 September, 4 October, 20 October, 23 October and 31 October and follow on from similar issues being formally discussed and action being taken by the Club against the group last season. No response has been received by the Club from the group to these emails.

Sorry, this may have been covered I haven’t read very far back. If the ban has no connection to the Palestinian flags, why weren’t the fans banned in October?

  25. so called fans ?

do you ever stop having a go at guys who have been going home and away for decades ?

600 quid to watch a team built by the lack of ambition of the plc ? humped year after year.

And i’m not talking about guys on the odd euro piss up now and again. Every game for years.

From Moscow to Blackburn and every where in between.

The’ve had feck all to sing about for years.

And btw, its not my style either but for once I dont have a bad thing to say about those who left early.

And hats doffed to your knowledge of the away supports of Europe.
