The need to put a stake in the CL ground

152

Yesterday, we were an outlier; having a player harshly red carded by a VAR, then losing five goals away from home in Europe.  This morning, not so much.  Manchester United only lost the four goals when they went down to 10 men, but they were playing Copenhagen.  A truckload of compensatory sentiment accommodated Erik ten Hag as he explained his team’s defeat last night.

Copenhagen’s win was only the fourth in this season’s Champions League from a team outside of the top 5 leagues against a team from that monied group (Feyenoord, Galatasaray and Shakhtar have each won once), nothing from Portugal, Switzerland, Austria or Scotland.  The chasm between the haves and have nots is larger than ever.

This stat is unlikely to change in Rome later this month, for Celtic, a win on Match Day Six is important.  We need a stake in the ground in this tournament for next season.  Beat Feyenoord, learn quickly and move on.

the Aberdeen game ? i have a ticket if I want it. Will I go – undecided. I’m usually a back the team person regardless of what the plc get up to but maybe the time has come…

C’mon mhate, you know you’ll go, it’s in your blood.

Now’s when the team need you bhoys.

Wee anecdote from training last night at our soccer

    parks in Oz.

Spots a wee kid with hoops on sitting on a fence round

    the parks, dad holding him.

so heads right over , Celtic fan eh ?

Greatest team in the world, blah..blah

Starts rabbiting about our defeat, explaining about bad

    ref etc.

After about ten minutes, the guy an Aussie says “ Mate,

I know nothing about soccer, the missus dressed him “

    Ooops.

“ But I’ll tell her to come down next week.

    🤣 👍

  3. Salary cap system has to come in somehow, someday.

Clearly the resources gulf make a mockery of the even playing field, 11 v 11 argument. It’s bollix.

Even in golf and horse racing, the handicap system tries to balance things up.

Most of the Codes and Leagues in Aus run a salary cap. The A-league has it and while it’s an average comp, anyone can win it; last year it was Nick Montgomery’s Central Coast Mariners who beat Melbourne City Group.

Many of the world’s rugby codes do it.

In North America, it applies in the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLS etc etc – even Lacrosse has it ffs.

FFP isn’t the same thing. Nor that ‘domestic dumplings’ inclusion or stipulation.

Salary cap scares coaches shitless. They have to do a job rather than buy their trophies.

    Rant over, I think.

And before you say ‘why not take a jump in the lake MICK’ I’m off furra dip in the bay. HH

  4. not to self

dont go onto CQN when you get pumped at 5s, leave yer jacket at the pitch and find out the huns have won..

  5. More “Boycott Martyrs”.I am sure you will be missed, just like the GB who some still think provide an atmosphere at Celtic Park.270 brats sing outdated Rebs among themselves that hardly anyone else can be arsed with.Atmosphere my arse.

Their displays are awesome, but dont talk nonsense about atmosphere.Atmosphers died with all seating.Only Europe and scum games now,and the odd late winner, gets the present fans noisy.

Love the idea of the original GB,but this mob at the moment have their heads too far up their own Jacksy..Roll on Sunday.

  6. Tik Tok getting subbed tonight and taking the long walk around the track, lapping up the adoration of the ugly scum.

    BAWBAG.

A belter today, 30 odd degs phew!

I’m down to our club ..agaaain as my wee princess

    is fond of saying.

Still got lines to do, but think I’ll find a inside the

clubhouse job, only problem, it’s awfy near the bar.

What could possibly go wrong ? 🤪

    H H. Mick

  8. MICK – if you’re off to do a few lines will Messrs Fowler and Morelos no’ be joining you ? 😂

In the A-League there have been x7 different winners of the comp in the last decade; salary cap fairness IMO.

Mother’s Beach will be packed today – as will every bar and boozer along Beach Rd. Cheers pal 🍻

  9. Agree with all you said about salary cap etc.

I said as much in the first post on this early yesterday,

but you did put it much better 👍

I’ll be down Mothers beach next weekend , our Celtic

    weekend, can’t wait 🇮🇪💚🎶🇳🇬🥳☘️🕺🍷🍺

I wont be missed – no doubt.

No martyr – just hate tory & Z appeasing fecks so much that I’d consider not promoting the self serving c*nts.

I take it you’re still in turkey and have no recent experience of CP.

Agreed, big euro games and the hun games have the best atmosphere, but to say that the GB provide none other than those 2 games is just plain BS.

The St Mirren game had zero atmosphere apart from a half-hearted “Celtic, Celtic” chant described by B78 as organic.

All the grown-up, welcome to the real-world, i’m alright jack, status quo types (or something else other than brats) moan like feck about the GB and their song sheet, yet contribute zero to the match-day experience other than stroking PLs emmm ego and moaning about hot-water in the bogs.

And that was me promising to stay away from the blog when i’m in a bad mood.

  11. Spikeys

As described by B78- organic chant from the 80th minute on.i witnessed St Mirren fans outsing all at Celtic Park, god bless the kano weans.they sang a little as did Celtic fans called the bhoys prior to walking out then coming back in.Those first 80 mins was a cascade of criticism that rolled down the upper and lower stands til big Oh whammed it in,just put sh××× after whoever was wearin the hoops 2nd name was all i heard as criticism was order of day.

The israeli funded “charity” group @Campaign Against Antisemitism are the basis of complaints against what it deems(the israeli state) as terrorists,it is mentioned in its timeline.the propoganda war it is fighting on all levels.it mentioned Celtic as a club.you dislike Zionism in their world, you criticise israel you are an antisemite, meantime the next generation of instability is seeded among the rubble of Gaza.

Meantime more info comes out bout the 7th

Even a day or 2 after the 7th, a mate of mines at the local boxing/fitness club was going on about the Friendly Fire. He’s been arguing with Yanks and Z’s ever since on-line. As he and many more prominent folk have said, if that makes him an anti-s, then he’s happy to be an anti-s.

  13. 100% agreed about the 20 or so St. Mirren boy ultras. Mentioned it on here on the night.

    Hail Hail

  14. Hello again all you young rebels.

C’mon bhoys it’s another TGIF again.

Blistering 34 degs here today, would drive you to

    drink so it would 🌞

I see Paul 67 wants to put a STEAK in the ground

regarding the CL, I think that’s a great idea, it would

certainly give us more bite in the tackle.

But first we definitely need to BEEF up our midfield

if we want to FILLET the opposition.

Sometimes I think it’s a tough gig in midfield and not

for the CHICKEN hearted, but he didn’t MINCE his

words, and there’s no point us getting into a STEW

some players need to get the CHOP if we want to eat

    at the big table.

It’s the MUTTON mob at the weekend and it’ll be tough

but that’s our bread and butter, so everyone on board

    the gravy train, please.

Thought I’d try and cheer the blog up a bit, but feck that

    made me hungry.

    Off to get my dinner.

  15. Good morning everyone from a 5 degrees, very foggy Garngad.

Can we not ban the Board from Celtic park?

Celtic board driving away Celtic fans, who needs Huns when this lots in charge

Onion beards get a game stopped for over an hour, allegedly commit a sexual assault, pyros everywhere, Tifos at every game and yet no ban from their masters as they no it could hinder their League chances.

Our board could not give a flying feck about our games.

    Have a good Friday yall.

    D :)

  16. Feck me DAVID 66 did you not have your breakfast

maybe a wee bit bacon will cheer you up 🤣

  17. So much about what Suella Braverman says is utterly reprehensible but for me one of the most worrying comments these last few days came from Tory MP Miriam Cates I’m the FT God help us all of its correct.

“Bravermans views maybe distasteful to the Westminster liberals but they are utterly mainstream in the rest of the UK”.

Post brexit Britannia for you right there. Vile.

  18. B78,

I turned off a couple of programmes last night in disgust as there were actually people defending what Braverman wrote. If what Cates says is true (and I hope to God it isn’t), as you say God help us all. Imagine such folk in power and Trump winning in the USA……

  19. Often, in the past, I have felt we have been disadvantaged by playing in Europe Mid-Week and then playing a `rested` team at the week-end. This week`s scenario favours us .

    Yippee !!

    Cheerio for now.

  20. B78

Agreed, its all about the culture wars for the next election. The marches at the weekend will be interesting. Meanwhile, back at CP….

Hope the players manage to lift themselves. Even tho they are out on their 4rses too, the Dons wont be as disappointed as us IMO.

  21. I know the Green Brigade creates a good atmosphere, but signing songs about deceased folk and pro Irish rebel songs (the war is over don’t you know ) Is it necessary to sing songs for 90+ minutes I don’t think so, personally I’m sure a lot off these bhoys and ghirls will be back in The Green Brigade section also glad to see not many comments on here regarding the game at Ibrox last night our fans should be turning our criticism on this tired Celtic PlC and at the end of the day to be rid of Desmond and co .

  22. bigrailroadblues on

Good morning all from Valencia. Mrs BRRB in the Cathedral for mass. I’m in the pub with the boys of the old brigade. Spanish chapter.

  23. Don’t let the People sing their stories and their songs,

only songs of white cottages and misunderstood crown forces instead……

Maybe we can get Daniel O’Donnell (a good Celtic man) in for a few ‘safe’ ballads about mammies and roses too..

Hold up the werthers originals for YNWA too.

  25. Are our inept board not feckin embarrassed that a Sottish club barely 11 year old now enjoys a better European reputation than the proud club that they “ manage “. The Lisbon Lions will be spinning in their grave …Hope they are satisfied re their ineptitude 😡

When I speak to Europeans and football comes up, then Scottish football, there is unbelievable warmth and respect toward Sevco.

the club with the worst record in a champions league group stage in history, is it that one ?

If you had gone to watch The Cuban Heels in the Old Burns Howff, you might have been banned on here…

Interesting chat with a Valencia fan. Equates the hun with both Madrid teams, asked me how I could share the same country with them. He used the word hun several times.
