The unfortunate shredding of documents

628

The report on Rangers on tonight’s Channel 4 News by Alex Thomson put meat on the bones of what has been going on at Rangers over the last decade or more.  Former chief executive, Martin Bain, was revealed to have written to then-chairman, John McClelland, in late 2003 asking that his pay rise is paid through the club’s Employee Benefit Trust, which is not subject to Income Tax or National Insurance.

Bain goes on to make a sinister note to McClelland, “at the end of the meeting I gave her back the letter addressed to me from you that stated my contractual increase for her to shred.”

Shredding documents?  Oh dear.

Bain declined to answer questions from Channel 4 but yesterday offered to drop his contractual claim against the club, suggesting his issue was with Rangers new owner, Craig Whyte.  It was the most self-serving drivel I have read in a while.

If this was how he behaved as Rangers chief executive Whyte was right to suspend him last year.  How Bain had the front to pursue Rangers for over £1m knowing the consequences of his letters to John McClelland beggars belief.

I wonder how HMRC view instructions to shred documents that could inform a view on a tax claim?  These documents prove Rangers directors knew how EBTs worked, understood what they were doing and the consequences.

Paul Baxendale-Walker walked straight out of a Carry On movie to give a great cameo performance. In a couple of years some poor casting director is going to have to try to find actors to play Baxendale-Walker, Whyte, Bain, Paul Murray and Zsa Zsa himself. Could any actors do justice to these bizarre individuals?

I’d be interested in your suggestions. Zsa Zsa for Sir David is a given.

  1. merseycelt lmfao as the big house door slams shut on

Wonder how much thems made from other dodgy dealings as this man was not the only one who was bought low, sold high and the never fulfilled his , ermmm, potential:

“Boumsong was a free agent, his agent, the Monaco based Scot Willie McKay negotiated the best sign-on fee to the player for Boumsong from Scottish Premier League club Rangers.

As a result, Boumsong joined Alex McLeish at Rangers in 2004 and signed a five year contract. Boumsong quickly adapted to the Scottish game and showed his skill as a centre back, leading to rumours that his stay in Glasgow may be shorter than expected. Halfway through the 2004–05 season, Newcastle under new manager Graeme Souness, made an £8 million bid for him, which Rangers accepted in a deal that was finalized once the January 2005 transfer window opened.

Boumsong signed a 5½-year contract with the Magpies. However, as Boumsong had played the requisite number of games for Rangers that season, he still received a Scottish Championship Winners Medal, despite having been a Newcastle player for around five months by the time Rangers won the title.

The £8 million transfer fee raised eyebrows,[1] as the player, being out of contract, had joined Rangers for free just months before, at which point Newcastle showed no interest in signing him. This transfer is one of those about which the Stevens inquiry report in June 2007 expressed concerns:

“There remains inconsistencies in evidence provided by Graeme Souness – a former manager of the club – and Freddy Shepherd – apparently acting in an undefined role but not as a club official – as to their respective roles in transfer negotiations.”

He had a mixed time during his stay on Tyneside in regards to his form. During his first season at Newcastle he was praised for his defensive abilities and partnership with Titus Bramble. His popularity led to fans shouting the first syllable of his name, elongating the sound in a similar way to Arsenal fans chanting Nwankwo Kanu’s name.

His second season at Newcastle however was less well received. Boumsong’s defensive abilities began to lapse and was often blamed for the conceding of several goals. He blamed this lapse in form on his girlfriend’s illness and other personal problems.

On August 22, 2006, Boumsong joined the recently Serie B relegated Juventus for a fee of £3.3m, with future incentives promised to Newcastle relating to Juventus’ future performance. In September 2006 Boumsong scored his first Juventus goal in a game against Crotone where Juventus won 3–0. Valeri Bojinov scored the other two goals. In Boumsoug’s final match with Juventus, he scored a key equaliser in their Coppa Italia match against rivals Inter on January 23, 2008.

On January 24, 2008, Boumsong moved to French club Olympique Lyonnais on a three-and-a-half year contract.[5] Boumsong has stated he made this move in order to increase his chances to make Raymond Domenech’s EURO 2008 squad.

He made his debut for the club in 4–1 win over Sochaux at Stade de Gerland on February 8, 2008.The 2008–09 season he scored his first Lyon’s goal against Le Mans on 4 April 2009.

On July 30, 2010, Boumsong transferred from Olympique Lyonnais to Super League Greece champions Panathinaikos F.C. for a fee that could rise up to €750,000.”

Read a few thoughts on title stripping and how some of us just want to see them stripped and not re-awarded.

I disagree,I not only want the titles and successess due I also want financial compensation,I cannot begin to compute the amount of money we lost out on its an absolute disgrace, the huns didn’t just win trophies, they stole money from other clubs.

Perhaps I’m missing something and will gladly consider but for now I think why only do half a job?

    Stomach turning.

So wee alex and the myth thought the bigot, sectarian and racist singing by the orcs, at the LC Final, was that good they had to send love letters to each other about it.

Between the huns and wee alex is it any wonder Scotland is in the state it is.

Even wee alex thinks the myth had no money to spend during his second spell at the hun.Goodness sake.

And this retard is running this country.

  4. I’ve just read through the Herald Sports section. Not a single reference to any of the allegations or evidence presented on Channel 4 News last night. Not a mention.

It was interesting to note that Motherwell has not had a victory against RFC (ia) in the last 36 attempts, since 2002. Can’t see that changing today.

One comment in the Herald today seems to suggest Club 9 Sports are frontrunners for RFC (IA) as Whyte will not sell to Murray. Ties in with what I mentioned last night about being told Whyte is linked to that bid as is Ellis.

Was I the only one who was irritated by Charlie Nicholas’ comments about Broonie at half time last week? Nicholas (and Neil McCann) slaughtered him – undeservedly so.

Glad to see Broonie respond, and so well.

  7. Wow BSR, where did you get that?

That is the most toe-curling, puke-inducing article I have ever read on CQN.

How any Celtic fan of sane mind could vote for Salmond after reading this, is beyond me.

Rangers FC (in administration) – a cancer on Scottish society with 140 years of unsurpassed cheating!

Yep..and he has targetted the hun vote to try and get it.

Herald article misses out Club 9 Sports’ liking for liquidating most of the things they buy . .

It would suit Whyte —-he ,too, wants to liquidate.

  11. I also get a feeling that there is more than a link to clubs who have had a whiff of financial trouble , Juve, Fiorentina, Marseille all were involved in big money transfers to Ipox, then there is the McKay /Sounness axis involving Boumsong and Barry Brilliant…..it has all been hinted at before.
