They’d all like to play for Real Madrid

754

Virgil van Dijk is a class defender, one of the best we’ve seen in recent decades, but there’s no revelation in the fact that he would consider moving to the right club at a more testing league; they all would.  The only pertinent fact about Virgil is that several clubs may put that to the test later this year.

The main thing to consider with Virgil is that he’s not likely to ‘Do a Kelvin’, and report as not in the right frame of mind to play, midway through Champions League qualifiers.  With Jason Denayer wanted back in Manchester, it’s important Celtic retain Virgil for the qualifiers, or are sufficiently compensated before then that they can confidently secure the early signatures of prime targets.

From what I hear, Virgil’s been more than professional in his dealings with the club.  He’s not running campaigns to leave and despite the plainly obvious that they would all like to play for Real Madrid, if the right move doesn’t materialise, he’ll get stuck in at Celtic for next season.  So it’s not time to reminisce on favourite VVD moments yet, like the time that wee boy bounced off him at Hampden.

Trophy Day at Celtic Park is coming up on Sunday, 24 May when we play Inverness, when the Foundation will be distributing badges before the game to raise funds for the enormous work they do for the local homeless, the world’s poor, those with autism, those with Downs, and many more people and families who need your care.

You can participate in our annual Trophy Day by volunteering to work with the Foundation before kick-off.  It is genuinely good fun and you get to step into the 127-year-old shoes those who have gone before you.

There are around 100 volunteers and we’re only looking for around 20 more, so get in soon by emailing cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk or calling 0141 551 4291.

Can anybody suggest a cure for sore ribs…?

I have just caught up with the story about the “Money” painting “The New PieOnEars 2012”.

There has been much hilarity over the last 3 years but surely even Monty Python at their peak would never have come up with anything like this !!!

I think they could have come up with a “Mr Custard”.

“The New PieOnEars 2012” – never.

(No please – no conspiracy theories about the last three numbers I beg you)

When you say that “all scientific knowledge is theory and that’s why it can never be immutable fact” – if you don’t put context in or make the humour much more obvious you will flush out a few who don’t understand and jump in.

And “All scientific theories can never be proven – only disproven.”

Fantastically circular stuff for a quiet discussion evening – but to the wrong audience – or in the wrong context – well.

Popper also stated that “theism is worse than an open admission of failure because it implied that an ultimate explanation had been reached.”

    And especially for CQN

Popper championed Tolerance but suggested the Paradox of Tolerance.

    Tolerate everything except intolerance.

I like big Virgil.. He’s a class player. Absolutely strolls the Scottish Premiership.

That said, Ronny, and Virgil both know he has area’s to improve on.

Most notably his performances versus both Milan sides spring to mind. I recall the goal Ballotelli scored for A.C … Then there was the Europa league games this year, then Inter Milan.

Speaking of Italians…. Big Chiellini of juventus… His performance against Real Madrid last week.. That’s what ur looking for in a centre half at the top level. That guy is street smart. Very savvy.

    ——————————–

Mentioning Chiellini and VVD in the same post hardly stands up to comparison.

Chiellini, a veteran is entering the latter days of his career. Also, playing for Juventus, ask supporters of other Italian teams what they think of his “savvy” tag…

Virgil is a kid, with his entire career ahead of him. Naive he may be at times, but his style of athleticism can hardy be compared to Chiellini’s “robust” style.

If Chiellini wore the Hoops instead of playing for Juventus, how long he would be allowed on the field by Scotland’s finest FIFA representatives?

    Petec,

Did you ever read about Malachi, then ask yourself why Rome never censored it ?

Lots of strains were censored, some were not, I’m beginning to believe for their protection and preservation is the reason many were not declared heretic was the devil is working to eradicate Christianity, Rome is front line, papery is the civil defence and everyone that makes their stand declaring their belief in the Christ suckers and all will be taken in.

It is best we go for a few beers and talk about this stuff. FFM can sort it the next time you are over.

Papery was an offensive term, I believe that all are Christians, whether they be Catholic or Protestant and the most important point is that Jesus Died to take away the Sins of the World and Anyone, and I mean, Anyone who believes that, well…. They are on the One Road, definitely the Right Road, The Road to Gods residence.

Now those who deny the deity of Christ and bring in False doctrines of Alien Saviours etc they must be watched, have you polled how many people believe that Jesus died to take away our sins against the belief in The Green Man?

I’m worried canman, mos def I’m worried.

Hopefully get the FFM to sort a night soon.

San Diego Bhoy, I agree about any Rubentus player and leniency shown to them in Italy and in Uefa competitions. Lichsteiner in particular springs to mind.

Horrible club and possibly the most crooked club even more so than the equivalent club here.

Platini is one Rubentus most popular ex players. Hopefully he has no influence in how they are treated.

As South of Tunis mentioned the other day, it hurts a classy player like Pirlo plays for a non-classy club.

You reminded me of the fact that my wife was involved in an educational exchange with the U.S. when Brown’s fiction came out. Her exchange partner, who claimed to have a doctorate from Harvard, bought the novel in New York and read it on the flight. Even though this was our fist meeting and after realising our religious affiliation, she felt compelled to ask me where I thought this left my Church. I said that her reading of the FICTION left me flabbergasted (never miss an opportunity to use that word).Brown, of course, makes claims under FACT at the start of the novel. He claims that that the ” Priory of Sion – a European secret society founded in 1099 – is a real organisation”. Nonsense. It was a bad start to the exchange but she quickly got on to what was for her, much more important matters concerning the whereabouts of the nearest dry-cleaning establishment. She never troubled our washing machine for one single item of clothing and she was with us for nearly a month. Now there’s a conspiracy theory there waiting to be unearthed.

    Talking of VVD leaving

I would be delighted and surprised if we get offerred £10 /£12 m.

Big Vic and Fraser got big money moves on the back of impressive performances in Europe and in Fraser’s case being in the England squad.

He may look a class act in SPFL , and may turnout to be a class act in EPL, but not being in Dutch squad, and our goals against column in Europe, will put him in the Ki / Hooper category of newly promoted / bottom end EPL teams, or one of the second tier German / Spanish teams (Schake, Wolfsburg, Valencia etc )

That last sentence has no been true for hundreds of years, small interruptions excepted.

The interruptions have been enough, the source and message is only corrupted by faith, the Christs massage is why so many love this pape, it’s been a long time coming, I’m believing the end of times might be a different message we have been told to fear, there

3 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

    4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

    5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

    6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
