Time for our other two international strikers

548

10 September 2016.  Five years ago today you were almost certainly worried about the absence of Leigh Griffiths ahead of Newco visiting Celtic Park that day.  In the previous season, Leigh scored 31 league goals in 32 starts and two substitute appearances, he was on fire and the indisputable top striker in the country.  No one in Scottish football has scored at this rate since.

When he was next available for selection four games later, there was a new sheriff in town.  Moussa Dembele used those games to make sure he became indispensable to Brendan Rodger’s Celtic.  From then on, Leigh, still only 26, would be used as filler.

The prospect of a month without Kyogo Furuhashi is not the news Ange Postecoglou wanted.  Pittodrie, where we visit at the start of next month, will be testing, as will the game in Seville against Real Betis and the home tie against Bayer Leverkusen this month.  We have two other international strikers at the club, it is time for one of them to step up.

I posted on here a few weeks back he wasn’t happy.

    sources Phil ?

unhappy with what ? any specifics ?

personal reasons being cited usually is exactly that, something going on that is more important than a job.

so people will type now anything, clubss fault, desmonds fault, lawwells doing, bonus not as good, not getting to buy hs own players or appoint the dof. all specualtion.

personally I dont believe they will appoint PL, his appetite is gone, the fire incident shook the whole family, scotland for him is a less safer place.

think out the box go for someone thats done it somewhere else,

    gordon smith maybe.

You might find that a story will now appear in tomorrow’s or Sunday’s papers after today’s (Friday night) statement.

    ###

    That was my initial thought.

The wording and timing of the announcement, 4.30pm on a Friday, might suggest the reason isn’t one that would elicit sympathy.

  3. Got a message last night saying McKay was away, didn’t stick it on here as more than enough snipers ready to take aim

Come back when you’ve read the tweets.

why do I need to read the tweets ? do they change anything about Mad Misogynic posts about the lady ?

you could save me th ebother and repeat the tweets and tell us how they justify your position

  5. Might be a load of nonsense but I heard he was going to chuck it. Tried to implement some changes and modernisation but rejected by the board.

There appears to he some deep seeded issues within the hierarchy of the club.

Whatever way you look at if this doesn’t look good.

I’ll watch with interest what the PL haters come up with here.

I’d imagine being CEO of Celtic is massively stressful and DM got a taste of that during this transfer window. He’s decided the money’s not worth it.

There’s a world of difference between football and rugby on so many levels. Hat’s off to him for realising he wasn’t up to the job. Hat’s off to him for presiding over what seems to have been a successful transfer window and giving a bit of breathing s-ace to find a successor.

    Learn to pronounce

    noun

a fairground attraction that consists of a light railway track which has many tight turns and steep slopes on which people ride in small, fast open carriages.

    “a roller-coaster ride”

Re Mike Nicholson, I’m sure the guys involved with Res 12 will have their own views. For my part, whenever I’ve had dealings with him I’ve been struck by his typically cautious approach to new ideas or alternative approaches. His conclusions generally followed the party line.

If we need a growth CEO or a market disruptor, Mike’s not yer mhan.

No way. How many CEOs last 3 months?

Dom seemed quite confident in himself and the SRU is hardly a parochial organisation.

I am typing it up now.

It willl be around “historical tweets”, “unfair restaurant reviews” “executive toilet facilities upgrades” “a clash of golf dates” “not as good as the rugby set up” “peter lawwell and the fart cushion” “wee nicola wont take our calls” “dave king was right” and “they wont show me the agreement”.

    oh and

“who is the mysterious jeannette leader of a rebel alliance allegedly”

  11. ROLLING_STONE on 10TH SEPTEMBER 2021 5:14 PM

Career suicide to resign after 3 months because you thought you couldn’t hack it. It’s a ridiculous suggestion.

  12. The statement from the club said very little about Dom and an awful lot about Michael.

Will be interesting to hear the rumours coming out about his departure.

Does not augur well for any sort of rebuild.

  13. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Rolling Stone – one window was probably enough – working 24/7 for months. What age are his kids?

Fair play to him. He quickly realised the job wasn’t for him and has the confidence to say so.

  14. So one of two scenarios seem most likely .

    Serious illness

Or Conflict with the board .

Well beaten by the ‘its not Peter’s fault ‘ brigade, with knowing zero facts.

  16. How many board meetings have there been in the last 10 weeks?

    When was the last one?

The club statement is cold in the extreme.

Twice as much on the new man rather the guy who is leaving.

    Not good.

  17. “they never mentioned working late night thrusdays”

“they would not let me work from home”

I posted on here a few weeks back he wasn’t happy.

    —————–

i didn’t see that; was there any particular gripe?

In my experience in business, a sharp exit note like that does not allude to a card, cake, beers and tears on the way out the door

Tried to make change quickly/annoyed folks?; didn’t get his new structure agreed by Desmond?; got the blame for Ange complaints on recruitment?

Never rains but it pours at Celtic these days

Well, blow me down dead with a ragman’s trumpet.

    Who would’ve thought???

Who would’ve imagined young enthusiastic CEO ground down by sclerotic old guard in 3 months???

Apart from seasoned Kerrydaleologists with the gift of hindsight.

  20. Atypical Corporate Statement.

New guy lets us down, by wanting to leave, so we wish him well, there is the dorr.

we dont need him anyways, the uy that was here already can do the job, we mean look at this resume.

  21. Had we gone down the DoF route, as many of us expected, a change of CEO would not be a big drama.

However, we didn’t and it is

Still, we have a world class backroom team, with their rich, unsurpassed CVs

  22. DMcK — Everything pointing to him being bumped.

The ghost of PL looms large — too many skeletons in the closet.
