Congratulations to who originally penned: “We shall not be move, not by the Hearts, the Hibs or The Rangers, erm, we’ll not be moved, OK?” Celtic stand alone, our historic rivals, those who half a century ago denied our grandparents, are gone. Do we have a perfect season ahead? Maybe not, but it will be a unique historical joy nonetheless.
Some of the chat yesterday was that the Premiership would be poorer without Hibernian next season, but anyone who watched Hamilton out-pass and out-play them on Sunday wouldn’t think so. Hibs have offered nothing of note to league football for years. Terry Butcher has got practically everything wrong since arriving at Easter Road but his post-match comment, that perhaps his team needed relegation to thoroughly clear the decks.
Whatever Hibs are they are not competition to Celtic. Our domestic competition next season will come from Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell. United and Aberdeen both finished the season poorly after showing considerable promise early on. Expect Jackie McNamara and Derek McInnes to build on their work over the last year.
If you were an aspiring Championship club you will not have welcomed the Accies result on Sunday. Now clear of their administration travails Hearts have the strongest squad in next season’s Championship. They will also be solvent, able to build on their squad and are likely to sell more season tickets than anyone else in the league.
Hibs’ newly recruited chief exec, Leann Dempster, is potentially the clubs most important recruit in 10 years. She will surely attempt to fit her successful Motherwell template onto the Edinburgh club – and may even have more resources at her disposal.
Queens and Falkirk know they are up against it in their bid for promotion next season but they are two well-run clubs who will have an influence on who does go up. I’m not even prepared to consider anyone else for the promotion spots, some just don’t have the players, some don’t have the management, some don’t have the money to end the season. Some are afflicted by all three ailments.
With the potential of a rejuvenated Hibs making next season’s play-offs, Premiership clubs will spend the next 11 months anticipating the very real possibility that it’s odds on that two clubs will go down next season. Accies and Dundee look more than a match for St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Partick Thistle. While Celtic will win the league comfortably, we’re likely to see intense competition between Motherwell, Aberdeen and United for the ‘Best of the Rest’ badge, and between the other eight clubs to stay up.

Aside from a silly, poor joke at the AGM from PL, the party line seems to be to embrace the tribute act. The new manager will reflect that view. I am afraid of that prospect, as it would lead to greater apathy amongst the Celtic support.

You’re in danger of isolating yourself here…Quit while the goins good :))))
I appreciate your thoughts good sir.

Like many I see the arguements against appointing Owen Coyle.
I also see some merit in appointing him.
He would not be as high a risk as when we appointed Lenny.
Let’s calm down.
If he is appointed he will get my support.
TT
I shall tell you something you all know. It matters not a jot whether the club appoint the fans’ choice or Owen Coyle. If they’re successful it will be the right choice and if they aren’t it won’t have been.
Whits the point in appointing someone the now, and paying for a month when players are off on Holiday ?
Keep us waiting until end of June :-)

Not necessarily. He will be required to win the SPL and turn a good profit. To be able to turn a good profit it is important you quickly and fully integrate the players that are given to you. Maintaing any level is unimportant as long as you win the SPL and play the game of acquisition management. I not joking think I would win the SPL next year as Celtic manager
Neil was not playing the game. Bug profits can only be made with gallant showings in the CL. It important the turn around time of players contracts and wages. Your Nakamura, Sammi days have long gone.
This will be a quiet summer more departures than arrivals. All arrivals will be ‘projects’. Owen Coyle will accept projects. Any manager worth his salt would not manage a great club like Celtic with that remit.
A hun insolvency or admin event this summer will help to disguise the continued downsizing and divert attention.

Hi buddy sorry missed your post earlier, HT wae a tan ? Bar67 would bar him
Why all the downbeat comments these days?
F Forster is under contract and will not play in the World Cup. The only person claiming he would be sold was Neil Lennon
V v Dijk is under contract, only people touting him are the papers
We have a huge squad for the premier league and a decent quality for the qualifiers.
Great squad for anyone coming in. The only ‘hanger on’ is Kayal who I expect to go this summer. We had a batch of players adding nothing and earning 2 years ago but they have been replaced with players with potential.
what’s not to like? I’d take the job.
Celtic squad is the best I have seen in years in terms of 1st 11 and development. look at the young lads on loan.
Note:
MON had a great 11 but what was in reserve? Sylla, Pearson , Henchoz.
Would CQN be happy if we bought a version of Hedman or Varga in the summer?
I think a lot of people have forgotten how much enjoyment can be had watching Celtic, anticipating signings and trusting the club to do their best.
PS
I am a bit of an oddity because I actually liked watching:-
Shuggy Edvaldsson
John Halpin
John Colquhoun
Stuart Slater
Andy Payton
Marc Antoine Fortune
Delaney’s, I can confirm your hairstyle was a well looked after natural wavy/curley bonce of true magnificence.
Your hair inspired the footballer’s perm craze in 1978.

Seriously though, how long does it take to come up with a list and make arrangements to have private talks to sound out the individuals concerned?
I said on here a while ago it was an open secret at Celtic Park that Neil was leaving so why is it taking so long to appoint a manger?
I think PFAyr may not be to far off the mark with his comment re a lack of transfer budget. I’m not to stupid and am aware that we shouldn’t have to spend to much to get us through the first 2 qualifying rounds of the CL but I honestly think without CL group stage next season then there could be a sizeable portion of our support who will feel a bit miffed especially as the SPFL is a foregone conclusion as we don’t really have any competition. BTW I feel that Neil has raised the bar where our standards in the league are concerned, I don’t think there is to much wrong with our current squad and 1 oe 2 addititions in the right areas will help us in Europe.
My main concern though is still about the time it’s taking to appoint a new head coach, something just doesn’t seem right. I honestly hope my fears are ill founded and we do get someone soon.
I’ll support whoever we appoint though I just hope he has a vision for attractive attacking football that will excite the fans keep them comming through the turnstyles week after week.
No need to worry CQNers

The SPL is a one horse race and we got stuffed in the CL last year
Room for improvement …..costs money ….will we put the cash up for the CL or take a chance and downsize further if we don’t qualify
Eddie, a ridiculous amount of time, it always seems to with us.
It does for my work too.
Better right than quick, possibly.
I do think most of our signings were made for the CL qualifiers already, namely Griffith and Johansen.
A new manager might get another one or two, but not much more than that.
So the imperative for a quick appointment may not be there, as far as the club is concerned anyway.
Or CowieBhoy might be right(stop sniggering at the back), no need to appoint a manager when the players are on holiday:-)
Arguably, depending on how enlightened the new managerial appointment, the biggest fall from grace could be our club captain mr brown….
Despite some obvious improvements still ranks as one of the most technically suspect players I’ve watched. He was undroppable under Neil and equally could be sought by him again.
All ifs and buts but plausible all the same…
Matt Carty elected. For the first time ever every person in Ireland has some form of Sinn Fein representation at one level or another…

The reason we were pish this year is relative to the year before where we overachieved(believe that is why Neil left)
Before we had stupid money in football, we had a competitive league in scotland(80s) and Celtic had the lions share of money coming in through the supporters at the gate.
pretty much the same as we had in the 60s and 70s.
what did we do in europe vs 60s and 70s – nothing.
the odds are stacked in our favour even more now domestically but outlandishly against us in europe.
the fact that we made the last 16 thrice in 7 years is remarkable.
which is why i remark on it :-)
