Unique historical job in season ahead

935

Congratulations to who originally penned: “We shall not be move, not by the Hearts, the Hibs or The Rangers, erm, we’ll not be moved, OK?”  Celtic stand alone, our historic rivals, those who half a century ago denied our grandparents, are gone.  Do we have a perfect season ahead?  Maybe not, but it will be a unique historical joy nonetheless.

Some of the chat yesterday was that the Premiership would be poorer without Hibernian next season, but anyone who watched Hamilton out-pass and out-play them on Sunday wouldn’t think so.  Hibs have offered nothing of note to league football for years.  Terry Butcher has got practically everything wrong since arriving at Easter Road but his post-match comment, that perhaps his team needed relegation to thoroughly clear the decks.

Whatever Hibs are they are not competition to Celtic.  Our domestic competition next season will come from Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell.  United and Aberdeen both finished the season poorly after showing considerable promise early on.  Expect Jackie McNamara and Derek McInnes to build on their work over the last year.

If you were an aspiring Championship club you will not have welcomed the Accies result on Sunday.  Now clear of their administration travails Hearts have the strongest squad in next season’s Championship.  They will also be solvent, able to build on their squad and are likely to sell more season tickets than anyone else in the league.

Hibs’ newly recruited chief exec, Leann Dempster, is potentially the clubs most important recruit in 10 years.  She will surely attempt to fit her successful Motherwell template onto the Edinburgh club – and may even have more resources at her disposal.

Queens and Falkirk know they are up against it in their bid for promotion next season but they are two well-run clubs who will have an influence on who does go up.  I’m not even prepared to consider anyone else for the promotion spots, some just don’t have the players, some don’t have the management, some don’t have the money to end the season.  Some are afflicted by all three ailments.

With the potential of a rejuvenated Hibs making next season’s play-offs, Premiership clubs will spend the next 11 months anticipating the very real possibility that it’s odds on that two clubs will go down next season.  Accies and Dundee look more than a match for St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Partick Thistle.  While Celtic will win the league comfortably, we’re likely to see intense competition between Motherwell, Aberdeen and United for the ‘Best of the Rest’ badge, and between the other eight clubs to stay up.

It would be silly to sell FF before the World Cup. Giving the new manager a kitty from that is too late for the CL qualifiers. Now would be a good time to sell Kris Commons free agent this winter and knows he needs to take a pay cut. That can provide a kitty.

Delaney’s, I wish we were shot of the blue brotherhood and all the tripe associated with them but we will never get rid.

Our new man will hopefully be well tutored in what to expect from the brethren and their sycophants with microphones and lap tops.

A few posters had mentioned big Johann’s treatment before Neil left. If he was forced out, it will widen the gap between the board and some of the support even more, if possible.

I was invited to a lunch at Celtic Park around September 2010 for Celtic Credit Card holders. I went as a pal’s guest as I didn’t have the credit card.

Johann was at our table. He is the coolest person I have ever met. He spoke with great calm and authority about our club and the joy he had to be a part of it.

I believe his family have been back in Sweden for the last year. I’m sure someone posted here last year about this.

If it’s true the board didn’t want him, what direction do they want for our club?

The board have done some things very well but in most of our eyes, they don’t match the ambition of our support nor some of our last management team.

I think you live in the past. We are consistently in the CL last 16 ..three times ? A clear path to get there now but we have no ambition except for making money. In the 70s ok prett good. The 80s poor and the 90s and 00s. Those were the decades we were happily diddled.

we are not a CL regular team as we do not have the revenue to compete(as it has been designed)

No team without a lver of TV money or a lenient nationality loophole can produce enough of a talented squad to make an impact.

Celtic borrowing 50m to get a crack at CL with never be a sustainable model.

MON tried it and never got out the group.

We are an FC Cluj, Basel once every few years making an impact club as the Euro model stands and we should not waste money trying to break in.

The old EC gave us a chance , which we took. i am grateful for that but can’t see us breaking the new mould

not being negative – it makes me appreciate the team more as my hurdle is lower.

Not palatable for many who aspire for more but if 11 of the clubs in the premier have less than 5000 of a gate, we need perspective.

my baseline for success is Europa group stage and good season is being in the knockout rounds.

Domestically, baseline is league. can never count on cups(best bit about knockout)

  14. Ledley , highest earner at the club…sold

We heard the same about Sammi but Joe and Gary indicate that its more beneficial to see your contract out. For the player not the club. We can get 3 maybe 4 million from a championship club for him.

Rarely as disappointed in a player than I was during the first two years watching Scott. Ridiculously Ill disciplined, stupid ego and unable to communicate with his team mates on the pitch. Was sure he wouldnt be with us long..

    However…

Truely remarkable transformation in all areas. I never believed it possible for an already established professional footballer to do as he has done. In everything expected of him on the park, professionalism, skill, teamwork and captaincy. And off the park..a fine ambassador, engages with fans and does charitable events often under the radar.

I’m amazed that I now say he is a credit to the club, his profession and himself.

When Big Lou came over in 1983, his head of rid hair was heavier than he was. I remember seeing him walking across George Square prior to the bus going down to Berwick the morning after the 4 2 game at Ibrox.

It was a fundraiser for a former Berwick player who was badly injured in training. We played Sunderland and it was mental. At one point a crowd of Newcastle fans appeared. We were stuck betwen them and the makems.

I’ve got as much knowledge about the inner workings of the Club as the next man (yes, that’s right, – none!) but for what it’s worth I think the Club should be giving Paul Hartley some serious consideration as our next Manager.
