We hired a builder

When looking for a new manager, Celtic usually try to fix the biggest shortcoming the previous guy had.  In May 2019, Neil Lennon’s biggest asset was his “eye for a player”.  There were other attributes. he twice got Celtic into the Champions League group stage where he delivered some of the most memorable nights in our European history, but Celtic’s decline started with his predecessor’s inability to sign quality players after the arrival of Scott Sinclair.

When it fall apart last season, Neil seemed unable to imagine how to organise a squad that was performing significantly below the sum of its individual parts.  Apparently simple tasks, like how to organise at defensive set pieces.  The answer to that particular question was Eddie Howe.

Howe took a team of lowly £17m misfits and marshalled them into a very solid unit.  He also had other attributes, but that ability to defend a corner kick was very convincing.

I spoke to Peter Lawwell soon after Brendan Rodgers left and again after Neil Lennon’s departure.  Neither Neil nor Eddie fitted the bill he was initially looking at.  On this occasion, Ange Postecoglou fits perfectly.  Technically proficient, capable of withstanding the intensity of our game, with an ability to make us a far better team three years out than we were when he took over.

It’s that last attribute we recruited yesterday.  Neil and Brendan both left teams that were poorer than two years previous.  We hired a builder.

    Couple of entertaining progs on BBC Scotland last night, first one of our travels to major tournaments, or was it travails, and the second Mr Browns Boys all about 1998. Well worth a watch.

     

    On MOTD Euro preview though, we were represented by James McFadden, a man with all the personality of a cardboard box. Makes Danny Murphy sound interesting. Give me Martin, Gordon or Brendan any day of the week, those guys can talk football. Might have to tune in to ITV if the Di Broonie is gonna be on.

    A truly awful article that lacks credibility and show the author ina poor light in my view – it’s a bit like listening to McCoist or Durham Talksport – there are so blinkered and so one sided that there view has no value – sadly the author of that piece may be going the same way.

    i said on here a couple of months back that Paul has become the Adrian Durham of the Celtic blog world

     

     

    in that he deliberately says stuff that he knows will noise up Celtic fans therefore getting a reaction by them posting retaliatory comments on his blog

     

     

    in the same way Durham does on his radio show to get callers

     

     

    but as i also said it’s Paul’s blog as it’s Durham’s radio show and no-one is forced to read/listen/comment/phone them

    Indeed it is their ball and can do as they see fit but in this blog world you need credibility- that piece just ignores the reality we’ve all watched unfold over the past 2/3 seasons. In fact it is worse it attempts to rewrite what happened – now where have we seen that before lately…….

    We have certainly got change.

     

    This could be an inspirational choice of manager, alternatively it could be a reckless gamble.

     

     

    The new manager deserves our support as he navigates his familiy’s life changing challenge. A totally unusual environment combined with a massive rebuild of our team will not be easy.

     

     

    He deserves a chance, subsequently I renewed last night.

     

     

    HH to all, the journey begins.

    Cheers TONY Bhoy, I havent been out or in a Pub since last Monday.

     

    I have Blood tests etc on Tuesday ( Not Monday as I thought earlier). I wont go into details but I am doing my best to stay OOT of any hospitals and Pubs. LOL

     

    The Beer Frenzy may happen in mid July….and hopefully by then Big Ange MAY have sorted oot SOME of the problems at Celtic Park…whos leaving, who we are bringing in etc ?
