Welsh should start ahead of Carter-Vickers

286

Saturday’s game against Ross County was Cameron Carter-Vickers’ second run out since July, so there was no surprise to see him down with cramp in the second half.  Match fitness cannot be fully achieved without matches.  It will take a few weeks until he is fully primed.

This poses a question for Ange Postecoglou, does he play Cameron against Real Betis tomorrow or revert to Stephen Welsh, a player two years younger but who is fully fit.

If we were discussing a creative type, like Jota, who also cramped on Saturday, I would expect him to start, as creatives are often swapped out in the second half, but managers are loathed to change their defensive line during a game.

I don’t think there is a definitive best choice here.  We do not know enough about Cameron and I know little about Betis, but my hunch would be to play Stephen.  The overriding factor is that we know Betis will run our back line significantly more than Ross County did on Saturday.  If Cameron’s muscles were in rebellion then, they will surely suffer in Seville.

You have to wonder why NL survived so long?

If — as you say — the support and board are against you then you are toast at CP.

Or does the CFC “Joker” come into play — DD says your staying and that is it.

JH — All good until he turns up on TV playing CL football and we are cobbling a team together to play in the EuL — who won and who lost in that little episode?

JH — by all accounts — could be a bit of a low level walloper.

But that is something to be managed not disappeared.

LG on the other hand is a high level walloper and we managed to live with it for quite some time.

  3. Various churches in Glasgow came together late August, to have a service around environmental concerns.

How powerful it would be, if they also got together to show a united front against anti Irish racism and all forms of sectarianism.

We’ll pray for trees but not for Tims, would appear to be the message.

Thanks for posting that. GCC have been claiming through the media in recent days that there have been no requests to re-route any of the Orange Walks due to take place in Glasgow this Saturday. That is obviously patently untrue. Now, I do have some sympathy for local authorities in Scotland in that legislation passed in Edinburgh leaves them virtually powerless if Walks are notified in advance. Virtually but not totally. Police Scotland are in control, and rarely if ever object to the Orange Lodge. In this case however they appear to have either objected to some routes or at least raised some concerns. Or not as the case may be. GCC do not appear to be following their processes, in terms of oversight, and unless I am mistaken do not appear to have discussed directly with Senior Police Officers in Glasgow the proposed routes of the 34 notified Walks, ie at a Committee stage. If so disgraceful conduct from an elected Council.

The reason NL lasted so long was because DD did not want to be seen to be reacting in the wake fan protests. His pride is more important than the welfare of the club.

Celtic recently rolled out the annual summer pantomime of conducting their main………….

As events unfold it’s difficult to avoid the thought that we are heading back to the pre-McCann days. We shall not be moved, said the men in club ties occupying the VIP seats in the South Stand.

Ian Bankier already has the persona of Kevin Kelly and if the Desmond sons start having a higher profile around Kerrydale Street then we know where this is heading.

It is 50 years since the South Stand was properly modernised and I have wondered for some time now if DD would commit to an upgrade to provide a tangible structural legacy of his involvement with Celtic. If Fergus could do three sides surely Dermot could do one ? Imagine the atmosphere .

    I have stopped wondering.

  8. Because of the Anti Catholic Racist marches this Saturday, my local Pub has been TOLD by the Polis that the Pub can NOT open until at least 3pm…when ” Hopefully” the streets will be re opened and free of this Orange Vermin.

The Orangees should be MADE to compensate any business’s that will obviously lose custom on the busiest day of the week.

I cant imagine that Hun Pubs have been told to remain closed until 3pm at least…or have they ?

  10. I have it on good authority that Dominic McKay had to go because he kept stealing teabags from Dermot’s special collection in the secret boardroom cupboard.

No new insights, but it’s the most forthright and trenchant criticism of the club’s owner I’ve seen in the MSM.

And it being The Times (albeit just the Scottish edition) it might register more than if it had been one of the tabloids.

I think you might have missed the point of the dates of Christian celebrations. I don’t believe that there are any Christians who believe that Jesus was born on the 25th of December (apart from a few in the US). Christmas is celebrated in the mid-winter, and you might be correct that it ‘took over’ on other pagan (nature festivals). The point of Christmas being celebrated is for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ, the incarnation. Is there anyone, certainly in the northern hemisphere, who doesn’t look forward to those few days off right in the middle of rubbish weather and very short days? Avowed atheists or anyone else for that matter like the celebration too for those same reasons regardless of whether they believe in the Christian message or not.

Easter? It is celebrated on a different date each year like the Jewish Passover. It is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring equinox, it’s a lunar festival just like Passover and most other Jewish and Moslem celebrations. When they are celebrated are secondary to those believers who again as Christians who believe that is celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, again if you or anyone doesn’t believe that’s fine and your or anyone else’s choice. This site and can at times get heated and people can make points very strongly sometimes in very intemperate terms, I’m not accusing you of this in this instance but can you leave those who celebrate Christian festivals or any other festivals to get on with it without a wholly dismissive post?

Celtic open to all? Have a good day, hail, hail!

  14. anyone know why the greek boy didn’t get. pre-season under his belt? The Dutch are over a month into their season. Was it injury or was it due to the speculation of moving clubs? if the latter, he should have been training to get ready if he is a real pro!

Match fitness is one thing – not keeping fit as a professional athlete is another – see Leigh Griffiths!

    Fair enough Ernie.

I don’t align with you bout the influence of The Sun with bigwords.it has no kudos at Celtic imo, seen for the forgery tabloid it is pre Report into child abuse.

The criticism you see will be water of a ducks back to DD,if he is remote from shareholders nowt from the murdoch andrex stable will budge him.

It may be different if there was a shareholder of material standing(something like his booky holdings) in our club Theres not.so the reaction we seen from dd at coral/ladbrokes agm(and media chat pre and post those agm’s) won’t happen as he is majority shareholder°

°in theory not,in practice he is am sure you’ll agree
