What would Neil Do?

491

It all starts for real next week but, unlike most previous Celtic managers who finds significant interest in his star player, Neil Lennon is pretty chilled when talking about the player moving on.  I want to keep Victor, he reminds me of a young Keane (Roy), Neil will want to keep him too, but you have to wonder, what the manager would do with some cash to spend.

Only just catching up with CQN and the UK media, is anyone still interested in the big ball game?  Delighted to hear the man from Dunblane got his just rewards.  The excellent BBC documentary on him two weeks ago touched on issues you and me and not qualified to touch on here, but there is a great humanity story wrapped up in his achievement.

Our paucity of sporting genetic raw material is apparently untrue.  From a (temporary) distance it’s evident he has branded the Scots better than any grappling politician ever could.

hot hot day, and I m still waking from my wee morning cocktail of pethidine & midazolam! It’s amazing what you ll let the doctors do with that on board..

Anyway a day late I can now toast Andy Murray..

One of the greatest achievements I feel he has created is – making kids believe THEY can achieve. Whether its sport, music, academia.

As a dad of 4, I can say kids – well look at Andy Murray.. He never gives up..

His story is pure box office, and yes I did get a family picture at his Gold Post Box , the night before he won the US open..

A Young Scotsman in and extremely demanding individual sport, is simultaneously

US Open, Olympic Gold Medalist, Wimbledon Champion.

I hope Murray inspires many more- in all sports.

CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to

announce that it has appointed John Paul

Taylor as its new Supporter Liaison and

    Service Officer.

John Paul returns to the club after an absence

of five years, during which he has been

working in a senior operational management

post within the financial services industry.

Before leaving the club in 2008, he had worked

at Celtic for 15 years, primarily within the

    Ticket Office.

John Paul will be the main point of contact

for Celtic supporters and his role will involve

    maintaining relationships with our various

supporter groups, with other liaison officers

and with the football authorities and leagues.

He will organise fan events and focus groups

and attend supporters’ club meetings, utilise

various vehicles to promote a positive

supporter culture and correspond with fans

    around issues of supporter service.

John Paul said: “It really is a privilege to re-

join Celtic and I am very much looking forward

    to my new role.

“As a lifelong Celtic fan I know exactly what it

means to be a supporter of this great club and

having worked previously at Celtic I know how

important our fans are to the club.

“We are in fantastic shape on and off the field

and it is a great time to be a Celtic supporter

    – I know that the club has worked to ensure

that it connects with and responds to its

    supporters.

“I look forward to continuing this work and

ensuring that the needs of our fans are met”.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said:

“This new role is a very important

appointment for us and I am delighted to

welcome John Paul back to the club.

“We are pleased that we already have

    excellent relationships with our supporters’

organisations, however it is always important

to maintain and strengthen these links and

this is what this new position will do.

“John Paul is someone who already knows the

club and our fans well and I am sure he will

be a very valuable addition to our team.

“Our fans are the lifeblood of Celtic and of

course the club’s success is the fans’ success.

“We always listen to our supporters and

through this new appointment, we will

continue to ensure that Celtic fans are at the

    heart of all we do.”

  6. Really stunned at some of the posts about Alex Salmond.Waving a Saltire.!!!!Gods teeth, whatever next?.Some on here saying it was a pathetic “Vote begging”stunt.Maybe so,but a totally innocent stunt with no malice.A wee bit of cheek,to a man that has been having a go recently.

Amazing how some people react to this when for years we have had every PM in office milking the deaths of army personel returning home in coffins to be met by the guy that sent them there under false pretences, with the (for the camera)sorrowful look on his face, telling the world how “They were heroes”bla bla.Tony Blair practised for about a week to get the sorrow up to full pelt for Diana”s funeral. They have lied barefaced and sent thousands to their deaths. They cut benefits to the most needy in our communities. They steal and rob us blind with their expenses scams. As I said they take every photo opportunity, regardless of families bereavements, just to get their faces onto print.Yet Salmond waves the flag of our country, and some are appalled.I think some must be living a very sheltered life,or one with blinkers being worn.

…But only one professional soccer player and manager has had his career terminated for refusing to apologise. That player was James ‘Dun’ Hay, former captain of Celtic, Newcastle United and Scotland. Later, he was manager at Clydebank and Ayr United and was seeking to bring Ayr back into the top division of the Scottish League in January 1926 when he was banned sine die by the Scottish Football Association after accusing the treasurer of the SFA of trying to bribe a referee…

The reality is there are a number of people on here and elsewhere who simply hate the man because he is Alex Salmond and for no other reason.

If the rain came, he’d get the blame in their world.

Getting angry at him over this issue says far more about the people getting angry or offended than the man himself and as you say it is better to show this kind of thing at a sporting event than when wee boys come home in a box with a union Jack draped over them while their families are left heartbroken.

To be honest their heads exploding has played right into his hands – he can call them anti-Scottish now and have plenty of written and visual evidence to back him up. There’s more of an own goal here from them than him.

When I read the comments,I am convinced the flag waving was only an excuse to berate Salmond.

For me the very fact that the Orange order was giving it “Independence, will bring nothing but hellfire and brimstone”at the weekend”is enough for me to vote yes.We all know that if the vote is yes,at the first election,Scotland will vote a Labour government in.

  16. Back to football.IMO,if we do not replace Victor with a midfield player with guile and cunning, then we will watch the same tepid dross that was so regular last season. We need to link defence and attack. Our build up is far too slow.We have enough ball winners, hard players, now we need craft. They are out there.Cluj, who pay buttons had a couple of guys playing this role.I agree with Kojo that we will not miss Vic that much, but only if we get in a playmaker.

Lenny”s comment that Kayal will fill Vics place, does not augur well for me.Kayal,Broony,Ledley, where is the guile in there?.

  19. The only people on here talking in heated tones about Alex Salmond waving a flag are the ones defending him.

Like it or not, whatever the First Minister of the Scottish Government does is political. Waving a flag at Wimbledon, immediately to the rear of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on the national broadcaster, in the middle of a referendum debate, is a political act.

I’m not offended by it, but looking at it within the prism of the independence referendum (and every policy, action, word or fart of a Scottish Government Minister is going to be veiwed through that prism at least until 2014) I thought it l;ooked contrived, and a bit desperate.

That’s it. I can’t fine one quote by one poster that said they were offended by it.

Independence favouring CQN’ers, you’re tearing down a straw man with this one. I’d let it go.

  20. Living_in_the_Love_of_the_Commons_People on

As 2013 progresses ever inexorably toward 2014, the independence debate will rage on ever inexorably. As with all global current affairs, the vote will go with Lord Rothschild and his cabal of multi-billionaires wishes. Does he stand to make a profit out of it, or not? It’s really quite simple. Nationalism, Unionism, Independence, Cameron, Salmond etc. are merely chintzy, shop window facades for sheeple to distract themselves with, while the central banks consider their stake and subsequent corralling of global power. Scotland’s possession of oil and gas reserves will not have escaped their attention. These are the considerations that should effect your vote.

Och, has the season started yet?????

And despite a wee fat man’s flag waving opportunity behind a prime minister, who is the cousin of the queen and who’s wealth is estimated at £30 million, an outstanding young Scotsman of humble origins won one of the world’s premier sporting achievements.

On the Wimbers Fleg Debate , I think that , in this type of scenario, people’s instantaneous reaction is a good guide.

Me, Mrs Blind, Lemonette IV and assorted family watched in a bouncing and good natured Macs Bar in Brodick. Seeing the emblem of St Andrew behind David Cameron’s posh, chinless, wobbling, privileged, red cheeked face, and Alex Salmond jumping with what was clearly spontaneous joy, just made me and others chuckle.

You don’t need to be a Nationalist to be proud of your country and you don’t need to be an SNP supporter to enjoy Eck’s flyness at the expense of a big fat Tory.

  27. gerryguk7,

I respect everybody’s right to have an opinion and yours are normally well considered and almost always delivered in a considered manner. (I use normally and almost always because I have seen no evidence to the contrary but there may be some that I have missed).

My point is that there are many on here who would support an independent united Ireland without any assessment of the pros and cons of that from an economic or social policy persepctive but are 100% against the any possibility of an independent Scotland.

I want a Scotland that removes nuclear weapons from our country and does not participate in adventurous wars in foreign lands. I want a Scotland that protects the NHS. I also want a Scotland that has the levers to improve the economic environment of the country to allow small and medium companies to grow (and pay their taxes).

There is a growing right wing agenda in British politics now that will continue to impact on Scotland unless we take our opportunity to stand on our own, taking responsibility and accountability for our own actions.
