What your money did

1537

In recent weeks hundreds of you have contributed to our Mary’s Meals project to build a school kitchen in Malawi for the 1221 pupils who are enrolled at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinii, and then for the 746 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary in Kasungu.

The £7000 required for the first school reached Mary’s Meals some weeks ago and the building was opened and serving meals yesterday.

Here it is:

We have a lot to do today but there is an excellent chance that the £7000 required for St Joseph’s will be raised and in Mary’s Meals account before 470 of us sit down in the Kerrydale Suite for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner tonight.

Here’s what you’ve done.  You have funded two facilities which between them will feed 1967 children, all of whom live below the UN measure of absolute poverty, in the 17th poorest country in the world.

Most days, for almost all children, this will be their main meal, it will often be their only meal.  As a result, they will attend school in greater numbers, 30% greater, if they are an average Mary’s Meals, Malawi, school.  They will gain a better education and have better opportunities in life.  They will build stronger bodies, more able to resist infection.  Child mortality will fall.

The spirit of Brother Walfrid, of Celtic, is alive within you.  You can get involved here.

See you at the party!

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tonight.

“CNN reported that on the day before the game 3% of the earth’s flying population were all headed for Seville and were sporting a Celtic scarf – a statistic that no sector of industry could ignore and which would change the policy of many airlines as a result.”

“If Tony Watt has been demoted to the Lierse B Team then would it not be better to bring him back home, since he was loaned out to get first team football. If he’s playing in a reserve or B team then he would be as well playing for ours.”

The only thing wrong with that plan is that it rewards Tony for his strop by rescuing him, and it undermines the Tough Love approach of sending him out to mature and grow up.

If he does not realise that he “earned” his exile at Lierse and he “earned” his demotion to the B team, and instead continues to blame his managers for his actions, then we will just be bringing back a disruptive immature boy to our dressing room.

I want a reformed Tony Watt back at CP, nothing less.

Might need help with my old memory here.

My first pint was in a pub near the pitches at Lethamhill. Can’t remember the name.

I was playing for the Boys Guild that day and after 3 pints before the game I was sick at half time and taken off.

    Thoroughly ashamed of myself.

My next pint was in the Dalriada, accross the road from my school, St Gregory’s in Lightburn.

There were six of us and most of us were wearing the school uniform!

My last pint was in The Old Post Office in Linlithgow just the other day!

Would that pub have been the anvil?

Had a few pints when underage in there myself and in the Dal.

First illegal pint was had in the Keystane in Brigton at the tender age of 16.

I too am an old Greg boy between 1979 till 1984.When were you there.

I know a few old Greg boys are CQNers, would be nice to run into one or two tonight at CQNten.

  6. My first pint was bought for me by my uncle in a pub called Connie Coyle’s in Derrybeg, Co. Donegal. I was 12 (but tall for my age) lol

First pint? As in bought personally?

A pint of Tartan Special in the Madiera off Vicky Rd. Group of us hit the pub to swap results/cringe the night the Highers results came out. I’d have been 16. Why Tartan Special? It was the only one I recognised…

Graduated to the Mulberry in the following months, largely on the grounds that the crowd was so big the bar staff didn’t stop to look at who they were serving.

A doctored NUS membership card provided a handy passport to most places thereafter, except The Fixx, where the bouncer was the older brother of ‘a girl I knew’.

Well done everyone on the Mary’s Meals fundraising. I was in Malawi this time last year and have seen first hand what living conditions are like there and what a difference efforts like these can make.

Need to get back to work as I’ve got some work to finish before I can come out to play (in case CRC is watching)…..

  20. So if the first pint was at 15 -16 years old how many pints would you go on the drink by the time your 60?

whitedoghunch. Happy days and Man U weren’t just there to make up the numbers- Best Law Charlton et al, and wee Stiles losing the rag ‘cos they were getting pumped.

  22. A small donation sent and my best wishes to all attending tonight. Have a great time.

First pint cost me 1/10 that is one shilling and ten pence (9p in new money) those were the days. Sixteen year old in the ‘Canteen’ in Annan. Now does DBBIA know where that is ?

  23. thebhoyfromoz on

    Jeez,

If you are referring to the limp induced by a torn arse muscle, then I will not.

Getting better by the day and hopefully ready fro selection in early april.

    You going tonight?

  24. newradbhoy

Yes, I lived in the heart of the Drummy are in Dalilea Dr. , and had a few mates that ran about in it. I used to travel to away games on the Casbah bus when I was a teenager, and there was a big contingent of the gang on there.

It just shows you how times have changed, if we returned from an away game with any windows left on the bus, then it was considered a successful trip.

I can’t remember the Dochertys from back then, but that’s probably more to do with my memory.

Just seen that the Evening Times have an 8 page pullout tribute to the new club winning the tier 2 league..Well that will cut their circulation in half today.
