White, male, entitled violence

370

24 hours after a fan assaulted Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, the English criminal justice system was able to arrest, charge, try and jail the 27-year-old assailant.  No politicians, football administrators, or clubs were involved.  Nor was alcohol, the perennial bogeyman.  Days were not spent discussing Strict Liability.  Only the police and courts were required.

We know lots about the perpetrators.  There are many women at football now, but these people are always male.  There are many people of colour at games, but not among the offenders, this is a white crime. And, they feel entitled to be violent by throwing coins, bottles or punches.

West Midlands Police and the Birmingham Magistrate’s Court have shown us how to react.  Their action will not end what currently ails football, but it is appropriate.  The politicians can ponder at their leisure why an underclass of white males erroneously feel entitled to carry out violent acts, on our streets as well as our stadiums.

Calling this a football problem, when it is obviously societal, will not wash.  It is not new either, violence like this has come and gone in waves for generations.

  1. Politicians in particular should be looking closer to home to ask why after a 12 years of SNP led administration, and 8 years previously of Unionist co-alitions, the angry white male persona has been allowed to fester and grow and ask what in particular makes them angry?

Scotland, unklike England does not have that diverse an ethnic mix that it can afford for this to become a non issue.

Minimum pricing in alcohol has not changed behaviours, the various ‘wars’ on drugs have achieved nothing and the folly of OBAF served only to alienate and demonise one section of society in their leaiure pastime.

So I think we can assume that looking at middle class solutions to working class issues is having little effect.

Time to go back to the drawing board.

    Good article

Been there done it with Gordon Strachan ( mind the guy who came out of the Jungle?) Scott Brown, and Neil Lennon to name just two, Celtic men.

The list is endless strict liability always has and always will be a non starter even when you’re entire support are the main feature on Crimewatch UK.

  4. Will our Eight Points lead be enough ?

REFEREE Steven McLean phoned Steven Gerrard to apologise for missing the foul that led to Hibs’ equaliser last Friday night.

The official blundered by failing to award Rangers a free-kick when Stephane Omeonga tripped up James Tavernier.

Hibs broke upfield with striker Florian Kamberi netting an equaliser — to leave Gerrard absolutely fuming.

SunSport can reveal the Ibrox gaffer went to see McLean at Easter Road and ask for an explanation with the whistler vowing to study the TV footage

Having done so, McLean contacted Gerrard to admit he got it wrong.

Refs’ chief John Fleming is also believed to have been critical of McLean and assistants, Graham Chambers and Stuart Stevenson.

Gerrard referred to the decision again and said: “Without that decision, we win the game 1-0 and you are talking about another tough win away from home.”

  5. Treble Trouble?

Still the biggest threat to ten in a row and the treble treble are the joined forces of manifestly corrupt Scotland, led by the offensive behaviour at football act the SFA, in collusion with SMSM piggy backed by Sevco.

Specifically chosen ex season ticket man handle’s every second Celtic away game in the round robin of mibbery, waiting to seize points in the anybody but Celtic craved country. Some Celtic fans already feel the cups’ a given, and who could blame their pragmatism, formerly called paranoia.

Kilmarnock went out of the cup under the low lights of Ibrokes early doors, in split second mibbery and deeply dubious circumstances, and tonight Aberdeen easily the second best side in the country have a compliant real Rainjurz man in charge, and a snowball in hell’s chance of a semi final.

If this topic is worthy of an article, then that is a good article.

My proviso is based on numbers. How many people have been involved in this `outbreak of violence ` at football matches? I am , of course, excluding the thousands of pepetrators at Ibrox ( after all, the MSSM does).

I am sure after the Titanic sunk, the rowing boats at Hogganfiled Loch would have come under scrutiny for a week or so `till some other `newsworthy` item caught the eye but I feel the current fascination with these unacceptable actions, involving very, very few culprits, is being promoted with ulterior motives in mind and we can be sure they won`t favour Celtic.

  8. The Kat-In-The-Hat will do his bit by picking every Tim he can while omitting the currants and soft-soaping the execrable life-banned Greegsy……………….

  9. If the bigoted Edinburgh jury had done their job properly and Neil Lennon’s assailant had been convicted then punished accordingly, if the fool who ran on and confronted Scott Brown at Ibrox had been arrested, tried and convicted, if those who threw things at Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths at the same venue, need I go on….they’re all making a rod for our backs. I hope our club are ready to respond to this Hun agenda.

Broonie’s ibrox assailant got 400 hours community service and an 18 month ban.

Don’t give the SFA any ideas about ethnicity and gender of potential threats to the wee sevconians as they attempt to reach the cup final. I fear that Celtic will have their ticket allocation cancelled in case they behave like Hibs supporters and attack every player on the park. The game could also be moved to a Champions league night and have a 2am kick-off with the floodlights turned off and have a refereeing observer from North Korea ( maybe an improvement ?)

Aberdeen should not even bother showing up tonight and Celtic players should watch their discipline until this sevconian kitchen sink goes flying over our heads.

  15. The question was raised last night about who was the smallest Celt, unless we go back tae the 19th century its hard to determine as stats were not readily available and don’t forget nearly everybody was wee back then. However, the Mighty Atom Patsy was allegedly 5’5″ which would make him 2′ taller than the wee mhan.

There were a lot of wee players back in the 60/70s including the wee bunion henderson, wee mclean, wee Alec Edwards former Pars and Hibbee, nearly every team had a wee winger playing for them.

A few names were bandied about such as Bankie Bhoy Johnny Gibson who I recall, not sure his height but he did have a team mate called Ian Cowan who got sent aff with wee Jimmy for fighting on the touchline on a Monday night in a GC Cup game, as both players went up the tunnel they had their arms around each other lol.

Bobby Craig, I was at his debut 3 hours after he got off the train at the Central Station, nae jetting in back then lol. He was instrumental in starting the Toronto CSC and coached their team which my late brother played with, wish he was still here, not just for that, and I could have asked him, incidentally he widnae hear a bad word about Bobby.

If wee karaoke makes his debut soon he will not only be the youngest Celt but the smallest.

  16. Tontine Tim,

Unless the picture I saw had been doctored, it was definitely a sevco badge.
