Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  3. Philboy,

McInnes met with King and the other guy ( Alistair johnstone, or something like that ) before the double header against the huns ( after the Motherwell game maybe ) , and it was generally accepted around Pittodrie that he’d be going. Apparently, he was left in no doubt that Docherty would not be part of any deal, under any circumstances.

You’d need to ask the boardroom bigots at Poundland why, although it isn’t too much of a leap to guess that the more ‘loyal’ zombies amongst them wouldn’t accept another higher profile Catholic having a say in team matters.

    Hard to believe, innit :-)

Happy New Year to you and yours mate.

Not over for Hibs mate. Over the following Tuesday for Hearts game and then following Sat away to Killie. Not booked Zenith yet but will probably go to it although flights are expensive. Booked for Ibrox booked a same day flight, I assume that it’ll be the Sunday as if we beat Zenit ( unlikely ) we will play the Thursday b4 Ibrox. As the Ibrox game is generally decided 6 to 8 weeks in advance of game for TV they have to put it on the Sunday in case we beat Zenit.

Am looking at Ross County on Mar 31st but same day flights are expensive. We will definitely catch up for a beer soon either in Glasgow or Dublin mate.

  5. Auldheid,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand that you like to be somewhat forensic in looking at things and that this very valuable.

    However.

You say that it’s complicated. In reality the complications only serve to obscure the real position. I contend that it’s not complicated at all. Not even slightly.

Rangers ran an illegal tax avoidance scheme (now confirmed by the courts) and then didn’t pay any taxes or NI. In doing so they broke any number of sfa and spl rules and regulations. In short the cheated.

Thus far all criminal proceedings have failed and the sfa and SPFL have shown no inclination to take the matters seriously and act in a manner that seeks justice. The media (I will come back to the media) have served to obscure the truth and to make matters look complicated.

Celtic have sent a few letters, tried to stonewall res 12, have never fully backed res 12 (leaving you guys to do the work). They have publicly said next to nothing (apart from expressing surprise and calling rather gently for an enquirer). As you know it is inconceivable they didn’t know about the 5 way agreement), they let ogilvie get reelected unopposed etc etc. Their track record in acting illegally towards their own support is far more than their efforts to tackle these points.

I contend that the publication of the letters to the sfa is an act to try and persuade us that they really tried to change things but the sfa said no. It’s a most pathetic stance. Celtic are the powerhouse of Scottish football.

Strip it all away and all it would take is for Celtic to publicly declare the sfa either incompetent or corrupt and to call for a vote of no confidence and for resignations. Sure Celtic would be attacked but when’s it any different?

This is a house of cards, but Celtic seem unwilling to attempt to topple it.

Now where are we. The sfa are investigating themselves. You think this will end well? Seriously do you? And when it doesn’t do you think Celtic will act? Really? I don’t. They haven’t to date.

And going back to the media. Sure they want to pander to an audience, but there is also a need to serve your audience even if it’s unpopular (journalism 101). But Scotland is institutionally racist and therefore the whole agenda is warped. For those who think things are getting better the Scottish media used to try and pretend parity. Now they don’t even bother. Is that getting better?

And finally threats and intimidation have indeed been a weapon of choice. Scotland seems fine with that. I thought that the OBFAC was supposed to deal with and criminalise threatening communication? That part hasn’t been enforced even slightly. But that’s because it’s not abou tackling threatening communication. It’s about criminalising the minority you hate.

Auldheid I repeat, it’s not complicated, it’s being made to seem complicated to hide the base truth.

Celtic in my opinion are the worst party in all this. The Huns cheated, the sfa are corrupt but Celtic are complicity with their enemies. The lack of morality is breathtaking and the betrayal of all of use absolutely obscene.

Yes we have,All pacy,so why do we labour so many times to get the ball forward to them?.I feel sorry for our strikers at times.I watch them make a great run,and inevitably, the ball goes back, leaving them to get back onside.Watching Arsenal,Chelsea, etc, they take half the passes we take to get the ball forward. Its not only killing the team, its killing the stands.20 passes in your own half,is not on.Hearts and the Huns have proved it.We have to move it forward,to the midfield quicker. How we do that,is not my problem, its the managers.

We watch every week, and we all see it.Get it sorted.

I more or less expected you would accuse Celtic of indulging in a ruse with earlier letters as anything else challenges your core belief.

I haven’t ruled it out myself, but until the process underway runs it’s course I’ll not rush to judge and I’ve invested a lot of time in being right on the detail that has carried things so far.

The detail is complicated, but until that is unravelled any case is refuted by SFA based on those making it not doing so with clarity.

We have done so and in doing so have made it more and more difficult to say everything was above board.

That is the advice the SFA obtained from external advisers and passed to Celtic in March 2016, which puts Celtic in the position of calling the SFA liars with no proof that they could use publicly because it might have impacted on the CW trial.

That was always a constraint on Celtic and the Requisitioners until the trial ended and you really should factor it into your accusations.

As to the rest concerning the environment against which Res12 has had to battle, I agree but rather than criticise Celtic for not wanting to take on the world, I view it as just what a huge battle it is to change the culture of a country that will not admit such a culture exists. Celtic need and are more likely to respond to encouragement to take on such a task than criticism for avoiding it. You give them reason not to by questioning what they have done. They reach the point of what is the point? Some supporters cannot be satisfied.

You are dealing with “establishment” people who simply will not admit wrong doing, which is why the evidence needs to be forensically and neutrally investigated, less personal bias contaminates it.

As it stands no one (and I suspect not even Celtic) know what the Comp Off will report or Celtic’s response to it, but I submit that in the event the narrative of deceit stands up and given what Celtic have said, whose motives you question, not to take the line you suggest would expose those letters of May 2012 and Sept 2017 as a ruse and would demand PL be sacked.

So until the process runs it’s course and with a now demonstrable understanding of what Celtic are up against, I suggest you set aside your certainty of where this will go and leave room for the possibility your core belief is not as well founded as you think for the factors that influence what is the right thing to do are complicated.

Yes. That’s about the size of it.

    It isn’t complicated. It’s crystal-clear.

The first defence of liars and cheats everywhere, whether it’s Enron, Madoff, Richard Nixon, David Murray, The Bank of Scotland or the South Sea Bubble, is to scuttle into the hinterlands of legal arcana and try to bamboozle their pursuers. (They run into the woods.)

The hope is that the pursuers either tie themselves in knots, or get ground down to such an extent that they give up.

This is the process going on presently.

It can’t be allowed to succeed.

Just join up the email address without the spaces. Doing it on here has email protection, cheers Jimmy

  19. Turkeybhoy, I agree. We have pace to burn, but Sinclair, Forest, etc, are runners, not dribblers (like Paddy). If the ball is played to their feet when their back is to the goal, then they have to turn (aka, dribble), and that’s a problem. Rangers pressed very well indeed (and credit to Murty for that) meaning that we had no space to run into. The only thing we can do is move the ball quicker in midfield, but that also means that we need instant control, and that we run off the ball, thus creating space.

I also think that Rangers pressing meant that our defence had problems playing the ball out out (see celticbynumbers), so Tierny, Lustig, Gordon, Brown, etc, had problems.

Brendan got it wrong this time, but he’s smarter than the average Bear, and he’ll get it right next time.

  20. Celtic PLC flung NFL under a bus because, NFL had the cheek to prove his team were being cheated by MIBs.

Celtic PLC set a trap for Celtic fans, by agreeing to charge them £49 for Old Firm Same Club Lie tickets.

Celtic fans threw themselves under a bus when they agreed to pay £49 for, Old Firm Same Club Lie tickets.

Celtic fans, of 2018, spat on the graves of those “true” rebellious Celtic supporters who are no longer with us, but, would have emptied stadiums and, corrupt board members bank accounts, had they been lucky enough to be presented with the amount of evidence that, the Celtic support, of 2018, have been gifted and, have spat in the face of histories gift horses.

Maybe, the Celtic support, of 2018, deserve to be cheated for their hunlike smugness.

“The Game, The Game Is Over, The Rebels Have Gone.”

Maybe its time to remove all rebel flags from the oul Jungle roof, and place them on top of the tents of the displaced, Rohynga Muslims, the Celts, of 2018.

    Well said.

I think our rigid adherence to possession has stifled our threat and creativity.

Watching possession based teams like Man city and Arsenal the biggest difference between them and us is body position.

They receive the ball facing forward which is something we now rarely do.

To often we face sideways and backwards.

To often the receive pass then have to stop look and turn upfield taking way to long.

Even KT hs fallen into this habit.

Exactly.I have been banging on about this for ages, but not in favour,no one will answer. We are so guilty of overplaying the ball in our own half its criminal. We can have 70% possession, but half of that is in our own half.Big Mik is particularly culpable at this.Around 10 times in possession,2 will go forward,8 will go back.KT,is getting not much better. Its slowing the whole team down.I have yet to see a pass to the full back, under pressure, result in anything. We are not Barca or Madrid.Boyatta, bless him,is constantly asked to do the job the midfield should be doing. He is being forced to pass the ball more than anyone else on the park, yet let him hit one or two askew,he gets pelters.
