Whyte integral to Miller’s future plans for Rangers

301

I don’t know anything about Bill Miller’s connections, neither does anyone else apparently, but we can be sure of one of two things.

Miller’s convoluted proposal is wholly dependent of him working in concert with Craig Whyte.  As owner of Rangers Football Club PLC, Whyte would stand to be an equity partner in the newly merged company (Miller has made no offer for his shares).

This option would not be possible unless Whyte and Miller are working together.

Miller’s proposal blows a whole the size of Ibrox through the notion that Rangers recent legislative troubles were all down to Craig Whyte who would soon no longer be part of the club.  He is an integral part of the advertised strategy (no matter how unlikely you reckon that strategy is to play out).

The SFA Judicial Appeals Panel must not be intimidated into thinking otherwise.

If Miller has taken a genuine punt (figuratively speaking, I hear he declined to pay the exclusivity bond) without doing a deal with Whyte, his advances will be rejected and Whyte will no doubt take legal action in the coming days to further protect his assets – you don’t think moving the floating charge to a different offshore company last month was to boost Caribbean tourism do you?

In this case, Duff and Phelps would be unable to conclude a deal to sell Rangers and would have to prepare for this scenario soon.  I reckon there is at least a 50% chance this will be the case.

More later, time permitting, ahead of the CSA Rally tonight!!

If a newco got into the SPL then some Celtic fans would go on supporting claiming nothing more could be done by the PLC and others will walk away, not being able to stomach any more.

If newco go to the third some fans will drift away from Celtic Park after the league starts to become a procession.

I will blame Ernie for the former and Lawwell for the latter! :)

I’m not suggesting the Celtic board do anything precipitate. I’m saying that when the time comes they should prevent a newco being allowed into the SPL.

If this happens though it will happen quickly during the closed season. There won’t be time for extensive debate. To suggest that we ignore the issue until then is ridiculous.

If Celtic are made to play in the SPL with a NEWCO its dead anyway imho

That´s cake and eating it stuff from Celtic.

One Court case FROM CELTIC PLC will have the national game hijacked for years.

As things stand SPL rules permit the transfer of a share from one company to another provided certain conditions are met and this is approved by the SPL board.

This is all they have been asked to consider at the minute, i.e. whether newco (when it is set up) can have oldco’s share.

This is the issue at hand that is being debated unless I have missed something. Relating to the newco-oldco switcheroo, what do you think the SPL have done wrong so far?

I have always considered supporting Celtic to be a privilege, and as the Tones would say – to me it is a blessing to be called a Celtic man.

But,i have never in my entire life been more content at where our great club is at.Everything just feels good about Celtic these days.

The past few weeks have been magnificent – the supporters, the players, the wee Thai Tims,CQN,our coaches, our manager, even Lawwell – have made me feel both proud, yet humble.

Interesting idea, resigning from the SPL and joining the SFL in 3rd division.. 3 years down the line, when we’ve won the first division and stand to be promoted to SPL, what do we do ? refuse promotion on the grounds that the huns are there ( SPL champions in the last 3 years, financially sound, with a better squad, and preparing for CL footie and associated revenue ) ?

I appreciate the morality in this, but it would be the death of Celtic as we know it. just what they want……

Ernie Lynch – No dis-respect mate, but have you ever considered therapy?

I am not a shrink – however this sounds like a case of the victim of a crime, thinking somehow that it was all their fault, and that they are wrong, and not the criminal.

  23. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

    Ernie Lynch:

You’re 100% right mate. Delay, delay, delay … It’s a nonsense. The clock is ticking. We laughed at Rangers fans for sleepwalking their way into this crisis. The way we are going, this board is going to be in the middle of discussing a signing target and all of a sudden NewCo Rangers will be an SPL club and there will be nothing we can do about any of it.

Season tickets will have been sold. TV contracts will have been signed. It could all be done in private, behind our backs.

The club is asking the fans to stump up money – real money, more money than ever – and the MOST fundamental question about our immediate future remains utterly unanswered, and unaddressed.

The club itself is one club in the SPL, but the most powerful club. We have a seat on the SPL board. Doncaster is telling all and sundry that this is perfectly fine by him, he’s holding press conferences. Other club chairman, managers, spokesmen, the SFA, the Scottish government – ALL have shouted their view from the rooftops.

The club MOST directly affected by this decision says nothing. That’s us. And it is purely and simply wrong. What ARE we waiting for?

No-one’s intentions are a secret here. I keep on accentuating that point with the people I know, over and over again. Everyone has put their cards on the table, except Celtic, and I am not even asking for a statement setting our detailed plans and potential response … just something to say where we stand.

Example; the SPL “giving private assurances” to Rangers … we are fully ENTITLED to comment on that and deny that we have ever been in any such discussion, firing a warning shot across the bow of anyone who is or has.

Yet nothing. No wonder people are suspicious. A few years ago, the fans were unequivocal on the issue of a joint sponsorship deal, and yet we signed one, and our views were over-ruled for “commercial considerations” at a time when the Famine Song was ringing out every other week.

Our club either stands for something or it stands for nothing. It’s that simple.

I’m saying that when the time comes they should prevent a newco being allowed into the SPL.

Rules exist to allow the transfer of a share from one entity to another. If the SPL follow these rules and approval is received by the SPL Board, then a threat to withdraw from the SPL due to this will be met with suggestions that we just want our own way and to hell with the rules that we signed up for.

Our resignation would be accepted and we would be pariahs (even more than we are now) in the Scottish game. even if we were accepted into SFL3 we’d have to go a few years without Euro football and money associated.

By the time we got into SPL again (assuming that was the intention) we’d be starting off behind the newco Rangers and will have achieved nothing but a couple of years of “principled action”.

  25. Maybe the Huns could ground share?

Chelsea have offered to buy Battersea power station. Photograph: Getty Images

Chelsea have made an offer to buy the site of Battersea power station with a view to building “one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world”, but have stressed that no final decision has been taken on moving from Stamford Bridge and that there are a lot of obstacles to overcome before work could begin on a new ground.

Chelsea have been looking to move for a number of years, despite expensive redevelopment of their home since 1905. The site is hemmed in by railway lines, making expansion of the capacity to a figure that would compete with Old Trafford’s 76,000 or the Emirates Stadium’s 60,000 difficult.

A statement on the official website said: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm to our fans that we have today submitted an offer, with our property development partner Almacantar, to acquire the 39-acre Battersea power station site.

“Battersea power station is one of London’s most famous buildings and has the potential to become one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world.

“Our joint bid was submitted in accordance with the sales process established by the joint administrators for the site. The process could run for a number of months.”

Chelsea will face competition for the site. “We are not the only interested parties and there is no certainty that we will be successful. We also appreciate that we have many significant hurdles to address if we are to build a new stadium on the site, including winning the support of our fans, the CPO shareholders and local Wandsworth residents, as well as securing the approval of Wandsworth council, the Greater London Authority and heritage authorities.

“We must also stress that making an offer for the Battersea power station site does not mean the club has made a definitive decision to leave Stamford Bridge.”

Plans for redevelopment would incorporate well-known features of the site, including the chimney’s and turbine hall. The proposals include a 15,000-seat single-tier stand, “likely to be the biggest one-tier stand in football”, and shops, offices and affordable housing.

Roman Abramovich’s attempt to increase his options suffered a setback in October when shareholders in Chelsea Pitch Owners, a supporter-led company which owns the freehold of Stamford Bridge, failed to vote in sufficient numbers in favour of selling its principal asset to the club.

CPO was formed in 1993 to prevent the stadium falling into the hands of property developers

  26. Ernie, there is no justification for them getting in, I know that, you know that, we all do.

The point is, if they are let back in, why should we lose our club?

Because this talk of “resigning from the league”, is exactly what that would mean.

Forget all the nonsense of playing in England, Ireland or Timbuktu, it ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.

To be fair, they didn’t really have to care about gretna. They were already relegated (or near enough) and would then have been SFL’s problem had they survived.

Would have been interesting to see how they would have reacted had Gretna been 7th or 8th and safe from relegation and suggesting a “newco” situation. It would have been in the rules to allow it but whether that happened or not is unlikely.

I hope they’re getting some cash together for our 45th anniversary assult for our Cup.
