‘Worth up to’ kit deals

428

There are two ways you can announce a shirt sponsor deal, one like it’s “worth up to £10m over three years”, or one like “worth £10m over three years”.  Some commercial deals in football are performance related.  If you win the league, qualify for the Champions League group stages, or even Europa League group stages, the value of the deal increases due to the added exposure and brand-related coverage.

Celtic will get nothing for winning the league, because that factor is already built into expectations.  They will, however, earn commercial bonuses for Champions League qualification.

Newco’s reported three year kit deal is the “worth up to” variety.  Bonuses will be dependent on winning the league, qualifying for the Europa League and Champions League group stages.  Who knows, Dave King might come across with the money needed to get there…………

  1. So Paul67 if the Hunnel deal for Sevco ” is woth up to £10 million” depending on winning league etc. what is the actual deal worth before add ons??? £1, £ 2, £3, £4, £5 million ???

Someone must be able to get their hawns on ra contract

    D. :)

  2. To put things into context…

The club team that Hummel has a sponsorship deal with that has the biggest market exposure is SC Freiburg (the Bundesliga having a massive global TV audience). When Freiburg first signed their seal they were still in the second tier and the deal has valued at €700k per year, with promotion to the top tier this was expected to increase to a seven figure some – let’s say €1m per year for nice, easy, round numbers. That sounds like a more reasonable and believable level of deal for Sevco.

Yes, Sevco may have more followers, but the SPFL has a tiny market audience compared to the Bundesliga.

  3. Although to be fair if the 500,000,000 worldwide Sevconians all buy the new top then maybe they will get their £10m…

  4. Just seen a wee video with John Clark in it, our Lisbon Lion.

He talks about being the kit man and how honoured he is about the position.

What a nice, humble guy, I have never had the pleasure to meet John, I have met a few of the Lions and they are all humble guys, what legends these guys are.

    D. :)??

  5. Delighted to see the item on John Clark. For me John was the great unsung hero of the Lisbon Lions. The ever reliable defender who was, or go up for corners, in the knowledge that John was there to take care of things at the back. Certainly one of my Celtic heroes.

  6. Made a mess of that last post. Ending up cutting out the following…always there to break up attacks. Big Tam could surge forward and Big Billy could go up for corners in the knowledge that John Clark was there to take care of things at the back.

  7. £10 mil and Usain Bolt signing, Level 5 crayon frenzy, are they trying to punt season tickets?

  8. Clarky is a top bhoy…humble loves Celtic and the club…a new signing asked ‘did u play football yourself John?’ Much guffawing… met him loads of times always a pleasure..he even used to come out n play football with the young team when he lived in Holytown…a real legend ?

  9. The champion sprinter is looking to forge a new sporting legacy for himself after hanging up his running spikes last summer.

Bolt – who won an incredible eight Olympic gold medals – revealed his desire to become a footballer back in 2016.

The Jamaican has recently been training with German giants Borussia Dortmund but has yet to be snapped up on a full-time basis by any club.

But bookies reckon it’s only a matter of time before the 31-year-old makes his professional debut – placing Rangers as one of the options.

From those intrepid lapdogs at The Hun, if any of you are looking in, i really hope you enjoyed Sunday,……oh and only 10 days till yet another hunskelping.

No way will Sports Direct cold-shoulder these as they will fly off the shelves no matter which sports kit manufacturer sponsors them. Ashley’s shoaps would sell Gestapo uniforms if he thought there was a market for them …… which there may well be down Govan way.

  12. Starry Plough You are exactly right in your post about exaggerating .

I wonder how long before someone puts together a banter years style list of all the shite that these cretins have believed over the years. Then again that is what the banter years thingy is all about I suppose. Doh

But your quote at the end was funny

    Connaire12,

During those Lion years, often at home games we would study an individual player during the game.

It was like how sometimes a camera will follow a player throughout a game.

Anyway, one day, we decided to watch John Clark, the often unnoticed member of the team.

    He was unbelievable.

His anticipation of where trouble would arise must have been the inspiration for Radar in Mash!

He quietly went about his business and I can’t recall him ever being skinned. Unobtrusively hard as nails.

I saw a lot of John’s play in Neil Lennon and I believe Scott Brown has the capacity to pick up the Brush, that JC wielded so majestically in that great team.

    PS.

The methodical way he executes his kit man duties, reflects the quiet efficiency of his footballing days.

    A true Celtic legend.
