Write your own headlines as Celtic work below radar

1442

Peter Lawwell told Sky Sports he’ll not be rushed into making an appointment.  Football goes on holiday for the next few weeks as players, managers and (under normal circumstances) CEOs kick back before minds turn to preseason and transfers.  Even if Celtic appoint a manager tomorrow, his plans for next season will progress little in the immediate future, but the task is being addressed with some urgency.

The best insight I can offer is that the bookies and media know Sweet Fanny Ally about what is going on.  Know that when Celtic start to talk to a candidate, the first thing they will insist on is radio silence, so if the aspiring manager is talking to a jouno, chances are he’s not talking to Celtic.  The club will attempt to do as much work below radar as possible, but between now and the day of an appointment, newspapers will splash their latest ‘favourite’ to get the job over their covers in an attempt to get you buy.  You’d be better picking your own candidates and writing your own headlines.

I’m going to wallow a bit in European glory tonight.  All those photos of the Lions back in Lisbon has been inspiring.  What great man, what a great history they’ve given us.

  1. Oh Happy birthday Hana Skye

& Jimbo67 a candle will be lit for young Thomas this morning

    Hail Hail

  2. McKenna is just full of himself. Why did Salmond and his minions not stand up and be counted when it counted? They know the true nature of too many Scots and some of them are of that nature themselves. Wouldn’t give them the time of day.

  3. Burnley78 snipe, misquote and take out of context all of those who the fastest milkman hates for having opposite political views best ignored !

  4. Twists and turns- ha ha that’s the one, Lol, I saw more tactical analysis in that sketch than I witnessed at the Emirates.

(There is a visual similarity to OC & SS that makes it more real).

  5. Well done twist and turns digging out the observer piece from 2011 above. Beyond my capability !!! Thanks.

It would be hard for anyone to have an opposite political opinion to me as I am politically agnostic.

    I don’t trust 90% of them.

Also not clever enough or got the time to bother about it.

  7. Andrew Smiths article this morning also sheds light on our predicament. It’s seems DD gets all his fun from making a profit from celtic according to the article. Smith also confirms that celtics so called player strategy was a reason for Lennon leaving. And of course we have DD legendary contempt for supporters.

“For those people, I really have no respect or regard whatsoever. When people say that you can just solve all problems by throwing cash at it, it’s absolutely stupid. It’s an insult to my intelligence. So those people, if they’ve got lots of money and they want to throw cash at it, we’ll take it every time from them.

One other thing on this DD does not supposedly have a controlling interest in the club. Yet the article confirms what we all know. He is controlling the club. This could be seen to be to the detriment of other shareholders. Mmmmmm where is my phone number for the FCA.

  8. So McKenna’s article is basically just a rehash of something he’d published previously?

No wonder he’s annoyed Lennie’s leaving.

Bit of a dripping roast, was he not?

  9. Parkheadcumsalford

I agree with the point you make but not sure how it connects to your first sentence.

  10. Twists and turns – thanks for posting the earlier piece

Burnley78 – had I read that aforementioned earlier piece my own response this morning would have been different. Enjoy your lunch date later ;-)

Note to self – get all the facts before drawing conclusions.

  11. Burnley78 was referring to KM mainly, however just having opposite views brings same result

    Enjoy your day CQN

    Dripping roast For sure.

But one minute he has not said enough and next minute too much.

    Ah well.

Just as well you are out there making a difference in the world for everyone.

    Greetings from Lisbon .

Clammy / overcast / sun trying to break through .

Happy 25th of May Day .

Celtic were the Peoples Choice in 1967 and on the basis of the last few days ,Atletico were the People of Lisbons choice in 2014 ..

When the 5 minutes extra info went up , my Atletico supporting mate said –

” they will equalize and then we will lose “.

Real Madrid fans were very quiet until they equalized..

    The article’s a rehash isn’t it?

Neil Lennon’s departure was just the hook to hang the article on.

    It’s what journalists do.

What IS interesting though is that these types of articles tend to appear in the UK wide (ie England based) papers rather than the Scottish ones.

‘Enlightened and progressive’? Don’t think so.

    twists n turns

Thanks again for providing me with a range of morning reading. I look forward to it most days but am often too late to thank you.

Kevin McKenna cannae win with some people here. He has been writing strongly for years. What some people can’t stand is that he has been gradually moving towards and into the yes camp re the referendum. Today’s article could have been written by anyone on this blog. Maybe Kevin McKenna is a lurker. He addresses everything that we have been discussing on this issue. Well done Mr McKenna.

  16. Ernie

Yes of course it is what journalists do.

    Wothout exception

re circulation. My preference is that it goes uk wide and to a broader audience.

Journos cannot dictate who their papers sell to.

I doubt the record or sun would print such a piece.

  17. It really is perverse for Kevin McKenna excellent article being hi jacked for some peoples myopic political agenda

  18. Shame that last night’s game failed to be a proper tribute to our own great achievement and the garnering of “la decima”

However it was faited that Atleti would fail again and in evidence the better team won. Just a shame that the strutting narcissism of Ronaldo and Ramos do not allow me to fully appreciate them, but great work by Ancelotti in making the big call at the right time.

    There are two Scottish broadsheets.

Do you, or anyone else, have an explanation as to why articles like this generally appear in the UK press but not in the Scottish press?

Is it because Scotland is too enlightened and progressive to want to read them?

  20. My friends in Celtic,

To me it matters not a jot who wrote what or when, as “Sidney Tim” has stated the horse has gone. All reasonable people know the truth, especially those in a position of power who shamefully chose to ignore the obvious.

To many sad & delusional people the objective has been achieved, NFL has been hounded out.

With a few notable exceptions Scottish society and our elected representatives have let us, and themselves down.

This whole shameful period is a blight on Scotland and must raise doubt if we should trust this same group of elected people with even more control.

As some all over Scotland continue to rejoice, my anger and memory is undiminished.

    HH, always in Celtic.

    ####

What’s perverse is McKenna insisting that Scotland is enlightened and progressive and the going on to show that it’s anything but.

  22. Is McKenna the journalist who described Les Gray, the rent a quote plod, as contumacious?

Ok then. I’m listening. Seriously, I am. Where can we find enlightenment and progression?

Neil Lennon hounded out of Scotland by the bigots? Don’t you know he left because Big Bad Dermot wouldn’t give him enough pocket money?

Ask Madmitch, Neganon, Maggie McGill, Awnaw and Bada Bing. They alone know the truth, even if they do insult Dermot’s intelligence.

The rest of us are just pissing in the wind.

Did Buddha not find enlightenment sitting under a bo tree?

If you haven’t got a tree maybe a hedge will do.Just a thought.

  29. Mental. Guy publishes a piece summarising the injustice that Neil Lennon has been subjected to, the lack of support he has received from a country embedded with prejudice and it starts a barney on here!

    My forehead is astounded.

    Lubo.

  30. Lions roar, while at least McKenna had the courage to write the strike But his description of Scotland not being an anti catholic country really betrays an act of wilfull denial.

  31. Good morning GCT. If we are arguing about whether it was NL being hounded out or celtics desire to sell our best players at every turn being the reason for NL leaving I would say both? Do you deny either?

  32. Gold Coast Tom

Is the hounding by bigots a new thing for Neil Lennon?

Or has it been like that since he came?

Because if it has been like that all the time he’s been here it’s hard to see why that alone would now suddenly induce him to leave.

Or is that too logical and rational an approach?
